“So is this a date?” I asked him. I sipped my wine but kept my eye on him, searching for any verbal cues that would disprove the “just business” philosophy we had both been using. Though we had been talking business and the plan for the event for most of the evening thus far.
My intention for asking was partially as a joke to lighten the mood and watch him squirm, while the other half of my intention was to gain some clarity on this friendship.
Roman, however, did not fluster or give any sign that he was that inclined.
“Would you like it to be a date?” He asked, turning my question back to me.
I was disarmed, which I really should have seen coming but the wine was proving to be an enemy in this scene.
I fumbled and almost let the wine glass slip from between my fingers. I would have been happy with any of his answers…but I could not find an unequivocal answer in my head.
