BlackJack

In room 701 Miguno and Kai were playing cards, as ace after king was drawn Kai got more and more flustered.

"How are you winning so often Miguno?!"

Kai's expression turned to one of sourness as his frown crumpled and Miguno chuckled. Soon after though he softened back into the game as he chattered to his old friend. Miguno looked at his losing position and huffed, his short nasal breath nocking one of his three cards onto its other face. Kai giggled and raised his bet by two round crackers; he had played right into Miguno's bluff as he flipped over twenty and Kai; nineteen. Well Miguno didn't like seeing him upset so he leaned over the game to console him,

"Hey, you seem easy to tease lately, everything okay?"

Kai, did in fact have something he was thinking about a lot recently. He bent his ears in discomfort avoiding the look of Miguno's black eyes.

"We're brothers after all, tell me what's on your mind Kai!"

Kai's eyes darted around to see if anyone was there to hear, Afterall he hadn't told anyone that his hyena parents had adopted him, but had a son of their own. Miguno was a medium-sized spotted hyena with a slender build. His fur light brown with several irregular, dark brown spots on his forehead. Perhaps a little Voss was eavesdropping on the pair, but his search came to no avail. Miguno's mouth widened into a slick black line of a smile,

"You LIKE someone, don't you?!" Kai crumpled like a collapsing tent, He knew his face admitted it so he turned his head up to his brother,

"Wh-.. yeahh..."

The confession took Miguno aback, he placed a hand on the mongoose's.

"I was wondering when this would happen! I'm proud of you, just so you know! I-it's perfectly normal."

Kai didn't know to look scared or safe, a thousand hairs stood up on the back of his head at the thought of Miguno finding out what had transpired the last day when the clocks changed.

"Well...? Who's the lucky lady?!" The words slid up from Miguno's throat as he hungered for more information.

"Wwwelll.." The air felt thick and unbreathable, "about that."

Miguno stood up raising the rest of Kai's fur on his spine, he cracked the window open to let out the hot air. Suddenly the door sent a gust across the room and out into the skyline,

"That was crazy Legoshi!"

Leoshi's dark pupils dilated as he spotted Kai on the floor, crossed legged, looking up. The great blue wolf shook himself to composure and carried on his conversation,

"Yeah yeah! Crazy what Louis can do to get on he FRONT COVER! All he did was look at the camera!"

Legoshi put a hand over his eyes as if to mock surprise and squatted down to the game of cards,

"Jack, come play?"

Jack's face turned inward with guilt,

"I promised to go get some milk, F-for a bet. I can't sorry."

Miguno was round the corner by the window out of sight,

"Hey Kai, what are you doing here?! I-I was gonna say at practice, but I guess I'll tell you now, Did you wanna go- on a..." Legoshi cringed at the thought of his last word-

"Date?"

Miguno had finished his words and the blue of legoshi's coat was a lost memory to the new crimson it now bore. Kai's face went grey and his jaw opened agape,

"MIGUNO!!"

Little did the pair know, but Miguno had played a guessing game, as well as cards. The peculiar eagerness of Kai wanting to go to room 701, his shyness at the start. All these must have meant he had a crush on someone from the room! Legoshi had been acting peculiar prior, Cradling his pet beetle with new-found love. His world becoming consumed by the thought of Drama club... Miguno only put two and two together, it was in fact, very easy. Miguno went promptly back to packing up the game of cards in the hallway, saying naught. Kai threw his head backward onto the floor.

"Kai!!! I didn't think he was here! Forgive me!"

"...it's ok Legoshi...yeah."

"'yeah', yeah to what Kai?!"

Kai lent up to Legoshi's wide gaze,

"A date."

Legoshi still felt like he had nocked a hole in Kai's defenses, feeling awful he left the pile of red and white cards,

"I-I'm sorry, maybe we shouldn't have even..."

He contemplated the last day as a flash over his shut eyes.

A tear started to amble down his nose, Kai snatched his rough wolfen wrist and dragged him over to the bench near the window, cards being pierced by his nails as he walked. Sat down watching the winter red sun melt into the spring orange, Kai lent his head onto Legoshi's shoulder wiping potential tears with his tender arm.

"Where are we going on our date then? Oh, and we're still... us. I don't know what you were saying back then Legoshi, but I didn't listen to all that negativity."

Legoshi's ear lay down on Kai's head as the sun made it's final flash under a building in the distance. Security first hit the pair as they intertwined.

"I'll leave you two lovebirds to yourselves, but Jack will be back soon ok?"

Miguno muttered something under his breath, He reached over to the temperature control and raised it by a few notches, he carefully closed the door on the couple in the dim light.
