"The sky is quite pretty tonight." Ginko said, sitting down on the freshly cut grass that made up the backyard of the dormitories.
The corners of his mouth stretched as he allowed himself to fall on his back, allowing his eyes to wander with a content look on his face. "Wouldn't you agree?" He said aloud, evidently pointing the question to the individuals behind him without even turning to face them.
He craned his neck ever so slightly, making only half of his face visible to the duo. "Something wrong?" He continued, still not receiving an answer from either of them. "Hm, my presence doesn't appear to be all that comfortable to you." He reluctantly hauled himself to his feet, now properly looking at them with his hands still tucked in his haori.
"Who the hell are you?" His fellow white-haired classmate spoke up.
"Ginko."
Though he had learned not to shout his name out with the strength of a thousand suns, he had clearly still yet to learn how to greet people properly.
"That's not much of an introduction." If it weren't for the fact Ginko was in uniform, they would've most likely been even less amiable than they were as of now.
"It isn't?"
"No, it is not." He reaffirmed, folding his arms together as the black-haired youth stood behind him took a step forward.
"Huh." Ginko scratched his head in genuine contemplation. "What would you like me to tell you then?"
The two other students looked at one another, inwardly wondering what Ginko's deal was as they shot befuddled shrugs each other's way.
"Satoru, did Yaga tell you anything beforehand?" The bun-wearing teen whispered towards his friend, unaware that Ginko could still hear them in spite of the distance.
However, Ginko's face didn't seem to reflect any sort of reaction whatsoever, simply continuing to stare at the two with his eerie verdant pupils.
"No, I would've sensed this guy if he had arrived before we left which means he came here afterwards." Gojo cleared his throat, returning his attention towards Ginko. "Are you supposed to be a new student here or something?" Even if they weren't sure of why he was here, it was safe to conclude that their teacher wouldn't just allow a random person to stroll around Jujutsu Tech.
"I am. I just arrived today." The way Ginko spoke felt somewhat robotic to him, as if he was trying to figure out the norms of basic human interaction on the go. "Who are you?"
"We're also students here, except we've been here for about a month already." Both Gojo and Geto squinted their eyes, scrutinizing the newcomer as they pondered what to think of the strange individual.
"No one told us that there'd be a new student today, so excuse us if we're a little wary." Geto said, concluding that even though Ginko's presence wasn't exactly all that reassuring, it didn't seem like he was much of a threat either. "My name is Suguru Geto, and this is Gojo Satoru."
Normally most would conclude that Geto was the more well-mannered one, but to Ginko who hardly even grasped the concept of manners he saw no difference between the two.
Except for their strength, of course.
"Ginko." He repeated.
"Uhm, you said that already." Geto scratched the side of his cheek.
"Yes." Ginko replied awkwardly, causing his classmates to let out brief sighs as Geto took the liberty to approach him first.
"Suguru —" Gojo voiced out in mild concern.
"Relax, it's not like he's a wild animal or anything." He reassured, reaching his hand towards Ginko. "Nice to meet you, Ginko."
Luckily for him, Ginko understood the very basic concept of a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Suguru Geto." The raven haired sorcerer mused to himself, having not expected such a strong grip from the newcomer.
'He's surprisingly well built, it doesn't seem like he's using cursed energy reinforcement. If he even knows what that is of course.'
"Just Suguru is fine." Geto looked towards Gojo with a significantly calmer expression than before. "You can stop giving him the death stare Satoru, come greet him."
Gojo clicked his tongue followed by an eye roll, apparently not fond of his new classmate. "Fine." He reluctantly approached Ginko, reaching his hand out towards him. "Nice to meet you, I guess."
"Yes, it is nice."
Gojo furrowed his brow, noticing something off about the way Ginko was looking at him.
"Is there something you want to say to me?" He asked in a fairly stand-offish manner.
"I think I've heard your name before."
That hardly surprised Gojo. At this point who hadn't heard of him? Even from the moment of his birth his name had become a household name.
"Everyone has, by the way, what's your last name?"
"Kyofu. Why?"
"No reason in particular, I was just curious to see if you were also from a sorcerer family or something."
"Satoru, he is from a sorcerer family." Geto shook his head in lieu of his friend's ignorance. "Your clan is one of the smaller one's right?" He looked towards Ginko for affirmation.
To which he responded with a slight nod.
"Is that so? Well, as long as you're not one of those Zenin freaks I don't really have any problems with you on that front." Gojo proceeded to remove his shades, staring at Ginko directly with his simmering bright blue pupils. "By the way, what grade are you?"
"Fourth."
Gojo let out an extremely audible scoff.
"That's a lie, and a pretty obvious one to boot —" Geto tapped him on the shoulder with the intent to intervene.
"Don't rush to conclusions, Satoru." He admonished. "Ginko, did Yaga tell you anything about needing to do a trial run or something?"
"He did, he said I wouldn't receive my grade until I finished it."
"I see, I had to go through that as well when I first joined." He sighed, shooting an "I told you so" look towards Gojo. "But there's no need to fret over it, trial missions are purposefully scaled to match whatever level Yaga thinks you're capable of performing at. They're supervised as well anyways so if anything does happen you'll be fine."
"Everything will be fine, because I'll be there." He proclaimed shamelessly.
"Uh, that's a good mindset to have I suppose?" Geto found it hard to tell whether Ginko's words came from plain overconfidence, or if there was actually any merit to it.
Regardless, time would tell.
"Anyways, I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut our meeting short since I'm pretty damn tired right now. I'll catch ya in the morning alright?" He waved Ginko off as he headed back towards his bedroom.
"Catch me? I'm pretty confident in my speed but I shall look forward to it."
"That's not what —forget it." Just like Shoko, Geto had begun to understand how futile it was to expect any inklings of common sense from Ginko.
"Guess I'll hit the hay as well. Don't try to pull any stunts whilst we're asleep alright?" Gojo yawned, finally allowing the day to end much to Geto's relief.
'Is that some sort of training method they use here? What benefits could there possibly be to hitting hay?' He wondered as he returned to his room. 'I should test it out later.'

The insistent high-pitched whine of the cicadas outside wrung through the halls of the first-year dormitory. Forcefully dragging its habitants out of their slumbers as they each wearily open their eyes, succumbing to the beams of light protruding through their windows.
"Why did they have to make the mattresses so comfortable? I could easily knock at least a few more hours out." A large yawn escaped Ginko's lips as he stretched his arms out wide, followed by the sound of his bones crackling.
"Now that I think about it, he didn't actually tell me when I was supposed to report for my trial mission. Eh, I'm sure if I run around long enough someone will tell me what to do." Having decided on what he was going to do first thing in the morning, he stepped outside his room.
Crumble!
Only to end up stepping on something packaged in plastic under his feet.
"What's this supposed to be?" Ginko picked the parcel up, examining what seemed to be clothing of some sort wrapped inside it alongside a note attached to its exterior.
"You've had that haori for at least a few years now, so I thought it was probably about time you wore something that didn't smell like sweat and mud for a change, especially since you're officially representing your family from now on. — Yamada."
"Oh?"
Using his fingers instead of his cursed technique in order to avoid damaging the gift from his grandfather, Ginko carefully unraveled the packaging, heading back into his room and placing the garments on his bed.
"So much for them giving me all these uniforms, guess I'll be ditching them already." He shrugged.
Yamada's gift appeared to contain a black shirt and pants, alongside a custom-made dark blue kimono with the symbol of a one-eyed koi fish on its back.
The Kyofu clan's emblem, which was also present on the emerald haori Ginko was currently wearing.
"Yup, this is a lot more comfortable then what they give me, not to mention easier to move in." He quickly put on his new attire, performing a few hops here and there to test out its mobility. "Might as well save this for a special occasion." He mused as he hung up his haori in his wardrobe.
"Ready for your big day?" A familiar voice said from behind Ginko.
"Aren't all days the same size?" Ginko raised his brow, met with the sight of Geto leaning against his door frame.
"It's a figure of speech you blockhead." Geto sighed, seemingly in better spirits than the day before as a result of having rested. "I see you've already gone ahead and sorted out your wardrobe." He took a moment to examine Ginko's new attire. "Not bad, it suits you."
Ginko smiled appreciatively in response to the compliment.
"Oi, don't you think it's a little early to be buttering him up?" Gojo intervened, wrapping his arm around Geto's neck as he glared at Ginko.
"I'm just trying to make conversation Satoru, there's no need for you to act like a jealous girlfriend."
Gojo recoiled every so slightly, folding his arms and huffing to himself as he marched off.
"Whatever, just leave him already, I've got a list of new restaurants we need to try out by the end of today." He said as he scrolled through his phone.
Geto breathed a deep groan, realizing that today would more likely than not be a repeat of the day prior.
"As you can see, my partner over here tends to be excessively needy so unfortunately I can't stay chat." Gojo purposefully cleared his throat so Geto could hear, to which the latter simply ignored. "I'll catch up with you once we're back though if that's alright?"
"Ok."
Even though Geto couldn't tell whether Ginko was disappointed or content, he still smiled at him nonetheless as he rushed off to go join his friend. "Cya!" He waved off, as Ginko returned the gesture.
"Might as well get started myself." He mused.
…
Ginko had already ran aimlessly around the campus for at least fifteen minutes, only being distracted by the occasional butterfly or squirrel he encountered, which he would follow around until he inevitably lost sight of them.
'I could probably try bringing them towards me with my cursed technique, but I might end up injuring them if I'm not careful.' For someone who had done nothing but train and fight curses for almost half his life, he had quite the soft spot for wildlife.
"Ginko!" An aged voice called out.
"I am Ginko!" He quickly surveyed his surroundings, landing his eyes upon the sight of a familiar faculty member. "Hello Sensei!" He ran towards Yaga like an excited child, closing the distance of a few meters between them in the span of a single breath.
"Uh, hello to you too." He replied awkwardly. "Looks like you've received your grandfather's package, comfortable enough?"
"Mhm."
"Excellent, is there anything you'd like to get in order before I brief you on your trial mission?" Having understood Ginko's explosive nature, Yaga wisely wanted to ensure there'd be no hiccups once he was set outside.
"There is."
"Name it."
Ginko clutched his stomach.
"I'm hungry."
Yaga chuckled, relieved that his issue wasn't anything beyond that.
"In that case follow me, I was just about to have breakfast alongside your upperclassmen anyways."
"Upperclassmen?"
"Indeed, they'll be the ones supervising the trial mission I'm sending you on today. So it'd be good for the two of you to get as well acquainted as you can before you head off."
Ginko happily followed him towards the cafeteria, ready to completely ravage any food unfortunate enough to enter his line of sight once more.
"Yaga-sensei, over here."
A feminine voice spoke up. Revealing a woman with light-silvery hair tied up in a ponytail sat down at one of the tables. She donned a suit and tie with a skirt attached to it which certainly gave her the feel of someone older.
"Food!"
But her eyes only lingered on her teacher for a second, quickly moving towards the youth who had just darted out from behind him straight towards the food on the counter.
"Who's that?" She questioned, looking towards the now approaching Yaga for answers. "I haven't seen him around here before."
"That's because he's a new student Mei Mei, he just joined yesterday."
She hummed to herself inquisitive, taking a sip from her cup as she glanced at him briefly. "Is he now?" Her gaze returned to Yaga. "I'm assuming he has something to do with why you called me here today?"
"Yeah, once he's settled down I'll brief both of you on today's itinerary."

Gonna start putting the author notes here from now on to avoid the top of the page from being too clustered.
If you happen to be reading this on Webnovel, I'll put the picture of his uniform here. I know those in my discord didn't take to kindly to it, but after some deliberation I decided that I'm going to use it anyways.
Sue me.
Other than that, next chapter there'll finally be some action as I know the last chaps have kinda just been build up.
