I sat down in front of Mom. There was a big piece of glass inside her chest and two small broken pieces in her right eye, which were open wide. There was blood everywhere. She wasn't moving or breathing.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaa...!!!!!!!!!"
I scream my lungs out. I fell back behind in shock.
I can't believe it. What happened here.? Who did it.? Why.? I was huffing and panting. My mind was flooded with confusion and panic.
Dad, where are you.? Help us...
Who can do something so horrible, and why.?
*Creak*
Just then, I heard something outside of the kitchen. I instantly covered my mouth as I was huffing very fast, and a few seconds earlier, I screamed loudly.
Someone is inside the house. I gulped in and turned behind. My T-shirt is getting wet with my sweat and tears. I am shaking from top to bottom. After a few seconds of silence, glaring at the entrance of the kitchen, waiting to see if someone comes in or not, I steadily stood myself up to go outside.
I slowly turn around the corner of the kitchen. I peek my head out. I saw no one in my field of view, so without making any sound, I came out.
Covered in fear, I have kept both my arms close to my chest and my legs close to each other. I leisurely took my steps ahead in the hallway, doing my best to not make any sound, but I can still hear the light creaking pulse that my steps are making due to the wooden carpet.
I turned my head to the right, towards Mom's room. It's locked, as I left it earlier. I faced straight towards the main door, which leads out of the house. In that moment, I was too afraid to think or to do anything. The only thing that came to mind was to run away from here, so I thought I should run straight outside of the house and ask for help.
With that mindset, I fixed my eyes straight on the door, breathed in, and, with the jolt of running away, took two steps ahead. -My existence froze itself from taking any further steps. I stood like a statue of the stone.
On my left....On my left.....above the staircase, from where I came down earlier. I know; without even looking, I can tell. Someone's there, in the shadows, standing and looking straight down at me. I can't move any further.
The sensation and the sinistrous aura around me are telling me that if I move even a bit, I am dead.
A gush of tears started rolling down my cheeks.
Someone...Please....
In that moment, I realised I am nothing. How many big talks have I made about becoming a knight.? Becoming strong..like Dad..It's all for nothing.
TAP*
I got shook. It's coming down.
*TAP** Another step.
*TAP** Then another.
*TAP** Then another.
I slowly turned my face behind, to the left, up towards the stairs, as it was creepily making its way down.
What...in the world....is that thing?
Hairs till shoulders. Grey eyes with no iris in them but pitch black, small, concentrated pupils. Long nails are stuck to the fingers, which are dripping blood.
It's wearing nothing but a long white T-shirt to its thigh; that too is splashed with crimson blood.
It's a woman, and why in the world is she smiling like that towards me.? That devilish, consistent smile.
She stared at me in eerie silence for a few seconds in that posture.
"I like your T-shirt." she said.
Her voice is heavy. Too heavy for a woman.
Huh.?
.....
My T-shirt? I looked at my sweater hesitatingly.
Just then, she slowly lifted her fingers and pointed at her own chest. She is talking about the T-shirt she is wearing.
Yes, that's my T-shirt. I didn't notice it at all.
"W-What do you..want.?" I asked.
I was scared to my bones, but now that it has shown itself to me, slowly, slowly, I am getting a hang of it. The image of my mom lying in the kitchen flashed in front of my eyes.
I was shaking, but my eyes turned red in anger. The relent emotions of fear combined themselves with anger.
"Why did you kill my mother?" I asked her, letting go of the hands I was holding on my chest.
She didn't flinch or respond. She just stood there with that menacing evil smile, which she never let go of.
What has possessed this thing.? I started breathing in and out. I couldn't hold it any longer. Her silence and the fact that I am not able to do anything—the useless, weak side of me—burned me up.
I let all of my emotions by venting it out in one go.
"ANSWER ME.! YOU DEMOOOOOOOOOONNN..!!!!!!"
*Clank* *THUD**
As soon as the main door behind me made a loud, raucous sound, she tilted her face to the left without any fluctuation in her expression. That moment was very slow, as if the time had dilated itself.
In the next second, A sudden gust of wind swept through, tousling my hair and chilling my skin. Caught off guard, I realised it just missed her head by just 1cm or so, getting itself hooked straight inside the kitchen. And there it was—a long chain with a dagger attached to it at its head, propelled by someone behind me, whizzing past my face with eerie precision. My heart pounded. Who had cast this chain with such deliberate intent.? I instinctively turned to face the source of these chains.
After witnessing the person, all the anxiety in the air drained down.
"DAD...."
He has already made his way half way inside the house, clenching the door with his left hand and bright silver chains curled around his fingers on the right hand. He looks straight into her eyes with utter seriousness.
"Get aside, Elea." Dad said.
Immediately, without wasting a second, I jumped to the right, making space in between them.
The chain retracts back into Dad's hand. He stood straight, holding his dagger. There's no expression on his face.
-Dad..
I turned my face towards her, and again, I felt the shivers down my spine when I saw that she wasn't smiling anymore and that her eyes were gleaming in darkness even more.
"Arno j'Arc..." she said. "You are a nuisance, as usual."
Dad loses grip on his dagger, making it bounce in the air. —And with the flow of its first bounce, he swings his arm at full length. The chain shackles, and the dagger makes its way, shattering the ground and aiming straight towards her.
The sound was too loud, and the floor debris made me close my eyes.
*Thud
As a few seconds pass, I open my eyes to see what happened, and she is nowhere to be seen.
Dad is holding his chains, and the dagger is stuck on the ceiling. He retracts it back to himself.
I panicked and looked around to find her.
"She's gone." Dad said.
That was fast. I couldn't even hear her moments.
"Dad.." I said while walking towards him.
I hugged him and let my emotions loose. I was sobbing in his arms.
"Are you okay.? Elea.?" He asked while gently keeping his left hand on my head.
I lifted my head and looked towards him. I couldn't answer the question because that was less worrying to me.
"Mom..." I slowly released those words.
His eyes widened for a moment, then contracted. Looking at my expression, he knew at a glance that it was too late.
"Where is she.?" he asked.
Wiping my tears, I point straight towards the kitchen.
"In the kitchen." I said.
We both went inside the kitchen. I turned on the lights, and to allow Dad to go near Mom, I stood beside the dining table.
Dad holds himself in front of Mom's body. His hair has covered his eyes; there's no expression on his face. I don't know what he must be feeling.
He clenches his weapon tightly, then, after a second, he calms down.
He slowly lowered himself and sat in front of Mom. He keeps his weapon on the side and gently holds Mom's face. He softly closes the right eye of the mom.
"Eria, I am sorry." He said this as he slowly tilted ahead and kissed her forehead.
Looking at Mom in that state and Dad asking for forgiveness, I close my eyes in despair and self-loathing, as it was me who was sleeping; it was me who couldn't save her.
Clack* Just then I hear the main door getting unlocked. Someone's coming.
Dad didn't even take a second. Without looking at me, he faced his left palm towards me.
"Deschen." He whispered.
Within a flash, a bubble of zone came on me. I fell back on the wall.
It's all a white space, transparent enough to look outside.
"Dad.!" I couldn't hear my voice coming out of me. I punched the wall, but it's elasticity absorbed the force, making it inaudible and unbreakable. He probably did it to keep me out so that I would not get caught in the fight.
I see the shadow in the darkness of the hall growing. Someone's coming here. I kept my eyes focused there to see the person.
The red-coloured shirt, white inner t-shirt, and black tights revealed the person.
Elyana..
*Sigh**
I felt a little relief knowing that it wasn't another threat or someone unknown.
She walks casually inside the kitchen and holds her feet near the dining table, where I was standing a few seconds ago.
She said something, looking at Dad, and Dad replied to her while remaining in the same position, looking at Mom without turning behind or even looking at Elyana.
I don't know what they are talking about. I cannot hear anything. It's Elyana, so why isn't Dad releasing me.? I tried to call them out, but no luck; she can't see me either.
—At that time, I made a mistake; it didn't cross my mind at all. I was careless, distracted, and ignorant of the question. —Why Elyana is so casual, and there's not a fraction of surprise or any type of reaction on her face, even though Mom is lying dead in cold blood in front of her.
The exchange of words between Dad and Elyana lasted for at least a minute until Elyana's expressions started diminishing.
Finally, Dad said something in one word, and this time her mouth moments were so easily perceivable to me that in reply, she just said, "Oh..."
And with that gesture, Elyana silently as void, her face started betraying no emotion, and she swiftly withdrew a gleaming dagger from its sheath, which was beneath her shirt behind.
Dad stands up in his place with unfinished words in his mouth, which he was conveying to Elyana.
"Elyana liste-"
As Dad turns behind, Elyana propels herself fast, like the wind, towards him with vengeful determination. The lethal blade finds its mark in a merciless plunge and gushes straight inside Dad's unsuspecting stomach.
