Lucky Cursed

You can't realise how green you've become, until you face a mirror and witness your features; lips, nose, eye lids and even your hair... all sharing the sheen of an apple.

A freaking apple.

A sour one too.

"I don't like this anymore as I did on that rubbish pile," I whisper this to myself next to Sky, as she stares with her mouth open as she takes in her blue face in the restroom mirrors. We were already inside a castle overlooking the volcanoes; a castle made of black ashy rock.

"I look like an idiot," Sky whispers, "I look like a lunatic."

"At least blue is beautiful," I exclaim, "I look like a bug. And J thinks I look like a goblin."

"I get nervous around pretty girls," J puts up his hand and speaks way too smoothly to be nervous around anything female, period.

Sky and I turn to J who is now awake and running his hands through his perfect slick of black hair that doesn't move with the wind, mud, elements or apparently anything.

"Feather dress. Check," J adds, while talking to himself in the reflection, "Perfect hair. Check. Two ugly distractions," he points at us, "Check. I don't think I'm going to die when I meet these Demon Kings. I think they'll like me. They might make me a jester or something."

"Or, they'll eat us and laugh while doing it," I suggest.

"Don't say that, please, don't say that," Sky keeps shaking her head, "Now I'm imagining it. If they look like those hairy monsters that tried to kill J and me... what if they want us to groom them, or lick their feet... or, or be their lap dogs? I don't want to be a slave to Demons!"

"Relax, we're cursed... clearly, but we're lucky, kind of," I try to reason with both of them even though J looks fairly relaxed now that he's got a mirror to check himself in.

"Lucky how?" J asks.

"Powers. Obviously. You two need to work out what you can do," I suggest, "Lady Grey helped us. I think."

"I hope my power is invisibility," Sky speaks and as I turn to her...

...I can't see her.

"Um," I close my mouth.

That was surely nothing but a coincidence.

"Stop it," Sky speaks through thin air, "Stop looking through me. It's not funny. You're freaking me out. Stop pretending it happened."

"I actually can't see you," I reply.

"Holy, where is she!" J drops a bone comb he's been using, when he witnesses the air speaking with Sky's tone, "So... so, you just say what you want and you get the power?" J asks, "Oh... if I... if I could have anything improved. Hmm... it would be... the power to make all girls smile, all the time," J smiles at himself for being 'witty'.

"Were you trying to sound empathetic and therefore... cool?" I ask, while smiling at him uncontrollably.

"Oh, no," Sky speaks and as I turn to her, she's physically back in place. No longer invisible... but she is also grinning at J.

J eventually turns back to us and see's us both smiling at him.

"No way," J shakes his head, "No freaking way... really, though? Damn. Okay. I accept that power," J does not sound disappointed at all.

"What did you call us just before, Syren?" Sky hisses at me through smiling teeth.

"Cursed but lucky?" I turn my back to J and finally regain my ability to stop smiling.

"Yeah," Sky hisses at me some more, "I don't know if you can call this lucky."

"Well -"

I don't get to reply.

Because the door to our prep area is opened... Lady Grey's sister smiles from ear to ear.

I'm not sure if it's J's power though.

"It's time to meet your Demon Kings," she says with a smirk, "Follow me, promptly."
