The Watcher

As the light passed through the apple trees, it disappeared. Just like the silhouette, the light would disappear as quick as it came. As Meldrum slowly and cautiously walked away from the apple trees and closer to the cornfield, he saw it, the silhouette. Now, his rage started to brew, "Leave!" he shouted at the silhouette, but this time, the silhouette stayed, unfazed and unmoving. Growing aggravated, he threw his knife at the silhouette only to see it fly through it. Stunned, Meldrum stayed still for a moment, but after gaining his composure, he cautiously walked around the silhouette and grabbed his knife. However, as he moved, the silhouette tracked his movement, moving its gaze towards Meldrum whenever he moved. Meldrum quickened his pace but the silhouette kept staring at Meldrum, following slowly, stalking Meldrum through the entire farm. Soon, Meldrum learned that there was no escape from this creature and walked to his barn house in defeat. Growing weary, Meldrum wanted to sleep but refused to, afraid of the silhouette attacking him. He instead started to make his dinner, some corn, pumpkin soup, and a cooked cod. As he cooked, he intently studied the silhouette, never taking his sight off it in case it attacked, but all the silhouette did was gaze at Meldrum with a look that seemed to show anticipation. It never looked away, it never blinked, it always watched. As Meldrum prepared the table and started eating, he locked eyes with the silhouette, it gazed with anticipation, Meldrum returned a cold stare with a slight of fear tinting his eyes. After eating, Meldrum washed the dishes and went upstairs to his room. He sat at a corner, eyeing the silhouette that was hovering at his room's door. Afraid to sleep, Meldrum kept watching the silhouette, determined to not take his sight off it
