Hired as Mercenary

Chapter 5: Hired as Mercenary

Utakata daily lives while being a trainee in Soldier's Hall was like this. At the morning he started with physical training with other fellow trainees. The noon is sword training and then sparring. Afternoon he joined chemist class to enrich his knowledge. And evening he brought his candle to the library and spend the remaining time reading the book on this world.

In less than a month, he has learned a total of 12 skills from this world. Those skills are: [Focus], [Rush], [Salve], [Potion], [Ether], [Remedy], [Treasure Hunter],[Safeguard], [Cure], [Raise], [Protect], and [Parry].

The first three skills are under Squire Fundamental abilities, Focus is to raise one concentration. Rush is a quick strike toward enemy. Salve can cure health while also negate any inflicted ailments.

Next five skills are Chemist specific Items Mastery. Potion, Ether, and Remedy grants the user ability to craft and use the said item. Treasure Hunter is a passive movement skill that will let you know if there's a treasure nearby. Safeguard is also a passive and it kept item from getting destroyed.

Cure, Raise, and Protect is White Magic used by the Priest. Cure is a white magic that soothes injuries, restoring HP. Raise is a magic to fetch a warrior from the brink of death. And Protect create a invisible armor to protect from direct blow.

The last skill Parry is a passive skills of Knight that capable of parrying blow while launching a counterattack to the enemy.

Learning all of these new and foreign skillsets is not that helpful for him. But the sheer usefulness of these abilities is something that he can't ignore. For example the Cure white magic or Potion items. In elemental nation there was a shinobi who specialized in medical ninjutsu, however the prerequisite to learn medical ninjutsu is strict. The Cure does not have the same strict requirement as medical ninjutsu and it can be casted from far away. As for Potion, after acquiring the skill he could use and also craft it under the Crafting menu. The materials to craft one is not that expensive and it was widely available in the city.

Utakata did not show all of his competence and pretended to be a complete newbie. He deactivated the Sage Mode and never use his chakra to help him with the training. While he was strong shinobi, his physical aspect is quite lacking. And he wanted to hone that aspect as he got the chance to retrain his body.

At the end of the first month he was here, a client hired him as a mercenary. Along with other sellswords they were tasked to intercept the enemies in Orbonne Monastery.

['Utakata yo ...']

'Saiken-sama, is there anything you need?'

Utakata was surprised as well as elated as it's the first time in a month that Saiken has started a conversation. He was always stay silent all this time, and it was only Utakata who voiced out his thought without any replies from the bijuu inside him.

['Nothing really. Just, be wary around that man. I had a bad feeling with him around.']

Utakata looked at the middle aged man with blackish eye pocket and sunken cheek. The man wore an exquisite set of crystal embedded armor, and donned a green cloak. A fine sword sheathed on his waist. Utakata used [Inspect] on that person.

[Name: Folmarv Tengille(???)]

[Age: 46] | [Gender: Male]

[Job: Divine Knight] | [Level: 45]

[Affiliation: Church of Glabados]

[HP: 469/469] | [MP: 253/253]

[Bravery: 65] | [Faith: 70]

[Inspect Failed] | [Inspect Failed]

[Inspect Failed] | [Inspect Failed]

[Inspect Failed] | [Inspect Failed]

'This is the first time it failed ... but the level.'

The strongest person he met before this, is Caellan the training instructor who was a level 22 Knight. But this Folmarv is a level 45, and with that unique job name. Moreover, he failed to inspect his stats and there is that question mark in his name.

Is it over? Yeah you bet. Re-reading this make me want to play FFT once again, but meh ... don't have the time really.
