Chapter 35 Pluviophile

Pluviophile - (n) a lover of rain;

someone who finds joy

and peace of mind

during rainy days.

As if my emotions and feelings weren't already a spiralling mess, we had to get caught in the rain which was as cliche as it sounds.

Wes and I decided to go bowling and grab a quick fast food dinner instead of staying hauled up in my room doing stupid shit all day.

We had eaten food and were headed out only to see that it was pouring rain. Raining cats and dogs.

"Shit!" I exclaimed as I stepped back and tried to stay underneath the overhanging rake of the roof. "I don't even have a coat, I'm going to get drenched."

Wes looked down at me, grinning brightly like a child waking up to presents on Christmas morning.

I narrowed my eyes at him in a skeptic manner when I saw the mischievous glint in his eyes. "What's going on in that big head of yours, pretty boy?"

Wes only smirked before he stepped out into the parking lot, tilting his head back to let the rain pellet down on his face.

I gaped at him with my jaw dropped. "You're going to get sick, Weston!"

"Stop being so uptight, Romero!" He laughed deeply as he spread his arms out like wings and let the rain soak him. His hair was falling down on his face as he stood in the middle of the parking lot and let himself get showered by the heavy rainfall.

A small smile spread on my face as I watched the sight. He was adorable and charming at the same time. The happiness on his face was contagious and as crazy as I thought he was, I couldn't help but watch him in awe.

I laughed as I shook my head at him. "Seriously, Wes! We have to call and Uber! You're going to get sick, come back here."

He shook his head, the water flying off his hair like a puppy shaking itself off. A bright and toothy smile laid on his face as he looked at me, slightly shouting over the rain so I could hear him, "Come on, Fia! Get out here!"

I looked at him with wide eyes. "You're crazy."

He only laughed as he started walking towards me. I quickly held my hands out to stop him, taking further steps away from him. "Weston, don't you dare!"

"Come on," he continued laughed, swiftly reaching out and grasping my hands to pull me out into the parking lot.

I gasped as I was pulled into the rain, shrieking as the cold showers drenched my clothes instantly. "What are you doing!?"

Weston smiled as he swung his arms around my waist and pulled me into his chest. "If you think the sunshine is pure happiness, you've never danced in the rain."

My eyebrows pulled together, my eyes still wide. "What?"

Wes only smiled at me. "Dance with me."

The rain pelted against the pavement, the light rumble of thunder sounding in the sky as the downfall pattered all around us. It was so loud, we had to yell above the rain just to hear one other.

Weston was laughing as he twirled me around in the rain. The puddles around us splashed as he danced with me, spinning me and sweeping me right up off my feet.

I laughed as I gave in and found myself dancing with him like I was in a fairytale.

We found ourselves wrapped in the rain as if it were a snow globe. We were wrapped in the sound as vibrant as a drum, the cold not feeling so cold as we felt the warmth off of each other. We were soaked from head to toe but as crazy as it felt, it was exhilarating.

Wes had one arm around my waist while his other hand was intertwined with mine. He dipped me down, so low that the ends of my hair were dipping down into a puddle.

I exhaled shakily, squinting my eyes as the rain hit my face.

Wes pulled me back up, our chests pressed against each others as the rain continued to pour down on us. We had found ourselves standing so close that his warm breath fanned my face.

If I moved even half an inch closer, our lips would be pressed together. But I froze, peering into his eyes and waiting for him to make a move. To show me that this was more for him too, just like it was for me. Waiting for him to give me any sort of indication that I was crazy to think he only wanted to be my friend.

I needed him to make the move. I needed him to show me the smallest reciprocation of feelings.

His eyes were longing as they stared back into mine. His eyes darted down for the slightest second to glance at my lips. I wouldn't have caught it if I weren't peering at him so intently.

My heart was racing and on the verge of exploding. My stomach was spiralling with tingles and butterflies that were out of control.

The whole world around me was drowned out, even the rain seeming to hush as I ached for Wes to kiss me.

I wanted him to kiss me more than anything. I wanted him to pull me closer and close the last inch of space that was between us.

Wes met my eyes again, a faint smile pulling on his lips. I couldn't read whatever emotion was playing behind his eyes anymore.

And then he made a move.

He stepped away from me, still holding onto me. "We might actually get sick if we stay here any longer. Let's get you home." He smiled faintly as he pulled me back under some shelter to pull out his phone and call an Uber.

And that was when I got my indication that told me where he stood.

That was when I felt my heart starting to crack.
