Is This Some Kind of Final Fantasy AU?

Our main character finds himself dead and wakes up in a new world that seems very similar to earth, except with magic! Follow his adventures across the worlds, trying to make friends and live without regrets. ******************** Please bear with me, this is my first fiction and I’m still learning. I’m going to be trying to post a chapter whenever I can until I find a good rate. For the first couple chapters my schedule will be a bit rough. I'm also working on a comfortable length for each chapter. Edit: I'm putting this one on hold for a little bit because I have most of the broad strokes of the story, but the minor details aren't fleshed out enough for my liking.

Meeting the Family

An ornate ceiling is the first thing I see. I must have been asleep for a little while. Wait! I did it wrong, let me try again. Ahem. An unfamiliar ceiling, huh. Guess I really was reincarnated. Hehe, with the cliche out of the way, lets see what my room is like. I can't turn my head too much but from what I can see, my family must be loaded. There are carvings all over the wood in the ceiling. They aren't the playful kind, it feels like I'm in a crib in the Sistine Chapel. Further to my sides, I can see a very expensive looking wooden crib surrounding me, with more playful and child friendly carvings strewn about its surface. I can't see very much past the bars because of how weak my neck muscles are. What I did notice, however, was the huge floor to ceiling window near the crib. It looks like it's open, as the huge white curtains were fluttering with the faint breeze.

I never really lived a life of luxury in my previous life and appreciate that whoever is up there decided to give me one in this new life. Being rich is gonna help with finding friends, probably. It's not like rich people get super withdrawn and never talk to anyone, right? My eyes wander a little as I think about this, looking at the carvings in my crib. Chocobos and moogles! I had completely forgotten that I heard the doctor mention something about mages before someone cast curaga. I have to be in one of the Final Fantasy games then right? I hope its one of the more technologically advanced ones, I don't think I would be able to survive without modern conveniences.

As I was thinking about this, I heard the door to my room open up. In walked an adult woman, a kid, and a teenager.

"Do you think he's awake, mom? I want to meet him soon." a little girl asked.

"A little quieter, Luna, if he isn't awake you might wake him." a gentle reprimand came from an older male voice.

I hear a quiet "Sorry" from the girl as they get closer to the crib. Looking at them now, I can see what they look like a lot better. I know I said I wasn't going to be one of those playboys, but I sure will have the looks of one if my family is anything to go off of. The woman who came in, my mom, is an older woman. She had no grey hairs, her hair was a very vibrant blonde, but I could see wrinkles in some places on her face. Probably a mix of age and stress, if the doctor calling her 'your majesty' meant anything. Mom smiled down at me as I looked up at her blue eyes.

"Looks like little Lux is awake," she announces as she reaches down and picks me up out of the crib. "Here, say hello to your brother and sister, Lux."

She turns me so that I can see the others in the room, the first I see is the little girl who spoke earlier. She has vibrant blonde hair and blue eyes, just like our mom. Her smile seemed to light up the whole room. Honestly, if I weren't the baby brother, I would say she gives off cute little sister vibes.

"Hi Lux! I'm your big sister Luna, I'm going to be the best big sister ever so rely on me."

I'm Lux now, huh. Isn't that latin? How anime, guess middle school me got his wish. Oops, I started laughing out loud. Looks like it turns out okay as Luna is beaming. If she smiled any harder her cheeks might cramp. Her way of introducing herself was cute, but would a baby really understand what she's saying?

"Luna, you're getting a little ahead of yourself. He's not going to understand that." the older boy who I assumed was my brother wisely rebuked. A little tactless though, read the room.

"No, he did! Look, Ravus, he laughed when I said hi." Luna retorted with a pout.

Hearing the older boy, Ravus, talk gave me a reason to look at him closer. I turn my head to look at this older brother of mine. A head of platinum blonde hair, much lighter than Luna's or mom's, assaults my eyes. So bright! I would say it was almost white if not for the little tint of yellow it has to it. His eyes are different too, he has grey eyes instead of blue. So anime of him, with his spiky platinum blonde hair and grey eyes. He's definitely my brother though, he looks a lot like mom.

"Can I hold him?" he asks, already reaching for me as if I was a toy to be passed around.

Don't you try to hide it Ravus, I can see it in your eyes! You're just as excited as Luna! Mom chuckles and helps my brother hold me. She must have seen it too, mom's a smart lady.

"Hi Lux."

My brother greets me with a smile while looking down on me in his arms. He held me as if I was the most fragile thing in the world, kinda romantic if I weren't a baby. Well, might as well give him what he wants, I smile and wave at him.

"Hauu." I say in low effort baby talk.

Now that I know my siblings names, also that we are royalty, it should be easy to narrow down which game I'm in. I'm going to rule out anything before seven out of principle, I don't want to think that I'm in a medieval world after all. Luna and Ravus... Can't be seven, eight, or ten. Hmm, maybe I'm thinking too far back. In the most recent game there was a princess named Lunafreya and... a prince named uh... I forgot because he wasn't the main villain but it's okay! I'm just going to say I'm in Final Fantasy fifteen. But they don't have a younger brother, and I thought their mom was supposed to be dead. Is this some kind of alternate universe version of that world?

I've played the game, sure, but I had only played the base game and none of the DLC campaigns. Right after I beat the initial campaign, Death Stranding came out so I had to play that. I also haven't watched the movie that was supposed to be a prequel to the game, so I'm was in the dark about a lot of things that would happen before the fall of Insomnia. That's gonna bite me in the ass a little, as Luna looks to about 10 and Ravus 14. I think Luna is 24 in the game. Don't quote me on it though, it's been a while.

Back to my family, I must have done a good job with my baby 'hi'. Ravus's smile was almost as big as Luna's.

"Did you hear that mom? Lux is so smart! He's already learning how to say hi."

Oh Ravus, I can already tell you are going to be a doting older brother type. If only he knew that I'm actually much more than just a baby.

"Yes, he does seem to be a very special boy."

Thank you mom, I hope to live up to those words. My family continues to have a conversation that I zone out because I just noticed something. This is going to be awkward... I'm hungry. I know what I have to do as a baby, but this is going to be super awkward! I'm a fan of boobs, but these are my mom's! Gross! It's going to be so weird when I'm an adult and have memories of this. Haaa, I guess I gotta suck it up and get over it. I'll just close my eyes and count prime numbers while it happens.

"Waaaah." I cry, trying to politely interject that I am hungry.

"Oh? What is it little Lux?" mom asks, checking my diaper while I'm in Ravus's arms.

I hope she understands that I'm hungry. Oh, she's getting out some kind of blanket and a chair.

"Luna, Ravus, it looks like Lux wants to eat. Can you leave while I feed him?"

"Yes, mom!" Luna replies, "I'm going to go play in the garden."

"Okay, mom." Hey, why are you so reluctant to hand me over Ravus?

After a minute of Ravus debating with himself about letting me go, I was back in mom's arms. She starts to shoo him out before sitting down in the chair she pulled aside for herself. From here on out, let's think of things to distract myself from this.

From my knowledge of the game, mom is supposed to be dead. There are two explanations for my current situation that I can think of. Possibility number one, that she was supposed to die before I was born and that me being born was because something changed that. Not very likely, I don't think it's this one. Number two, she dies in the future and is alive because her death hasn't happened yet. This one worries me, because I have no idea when she is supposed to die. It could be tomorrow.

That's a sobering thought. I thought this life was going to be easy because my family was loaded and royalty. Should have known, royalty usually gets shafted in Final Fantasy. They either end up the villain or have some tragedy happen to them. If I was the villain, that would be much easier to manage, instead I have to worry about my family dying. Maybe that's a little selfish, as the whole country gets taken over by um... Nilfgaard? No, that's the Witcher. Some Nilf name, I'm sure I'll learn it soon.

Well, considering a third royal kid has been thrown into the mix, maybe this I was born into some kind of 'what-if' fanfic. Maybe I'll never have to deal with any of this, and that Nilf place can keep it in their pants and stay out of Temeria. Still the Witcher, sorry. I really don't remember any of the place names. Tangents about a game I'll never see again aside, here's for my 'happily ever after'.

Hey, if you're one of the hundred people who have read this so far, you might notice that this chapter is different from when it was first posted. I redid the perspective and shifted to first person because it's more fun to write.

Thanks for reading!
