CHAPTER 39

Y/N'S POV

The night of the open day I slept better than ever knowing that my nightmares would end once I broke the bond with my mother. No way was I going to let her capture me and make me part of a revenge that had nothing to do with me, so from the next day I was going to start training my new skills. I fell asleep while Yoko was telling me about her day and how Divine forced her to get into the lake with the rest of her family. It was an interesting story when I found out that the vampire could not swim and almost drowned.

The next morning, the whole school was shaken up by the announcement of a new edition of the Poe Cup. Enid, as last year's winner with the "Black Cats", was more excited than anyone. She was jumping around and hanging around Wednesday begging her to become her co-pilot again. I saw my cousin's face and how she was looking at her and I knew that in the end she would give in.

-Yoko: Last year I missed the Poe Cup because of garlic poisoning, this year I will make sure to participate - she looked at me seriously - Do you think I would have chances to compete against Wednesday for the co-pilot position?

-Y/N: Your chances of taking the co-pilot position are 0.001 percent - I replied - Unless she decides not to participate, which is not going to happen because humiliating Bianca again is too tempting - I smiled - Besides... Do you want to compete against your girlfriend?

- Yoko: Yes, of course - she smiled - I never win arguments as a couple, at least I would like to beat her in this.

-Y/N: Then settle for going in the same canoe as Enid and Wednesday and enjoy the only victory you will have against Divine - I laughed.

-Yoko: I guess I'll take the advice from dominated to dominated - she looked at me and gave a mocking smile before walking away.

-Y/N: I am not a domina-

-Enid: Y/N - she said cheerfully as she sat next to me - The Poe Cup is just around the corner and I was wondering if you would like to join us - she smiled - It's a competition of your style, humiliations, violence, no rules...

-Y/N: It sounds good, but I have much more important things to do - I slung the backpack on my shoulder - My father visited me yesterday, and he has told me things about myself that I didn't know and that I want to put into practice.

- Enid: Is it related to being just like Pikachu? - she asked amused while moving her eyebrows in a funny way.

-Y/N: I guess so - I smiled - But I'll still come to cheer you on, I know you'll win even if I'm not on your team.

-Enid: If you were on our team they wouldn't let us participate because it would be abusive for the rest of the participants - she winked at me - I'll settle for knowing that you'll be watching me win - she kissed my cheek - Anyway... Are we going to eat?

-Y/N: Of course, I'm so hungry I'm dying... I didn't have any breakfast this morning because Yoko woke me up late and I didn't get to class.

-Enid: If you slept with me, that wouldn't happen to you - she tapped me on the shoulder - But as you insist on sleeping apart...

-Y/N: Sometimes we sleep together, if we did it every day it would stop being special.

-Enid: I think it's always special because it's about you - she smiled so tenderly that I felt my body weaken.

-Y/N: Don't smile like that, I can't resist in the face of such tenderness - I rolled my eyes and went ahead.

- Enid: Do you think I'm too cute for your taste, Y/N? - she was chasing me while bothering me - Imagine how I would look in one of your big hoodies, between stuffed animals while I'm waiting for you. Would that be adorable enough?

-Y/N: Shut up, Sinclair - a giggle escaped me - My heart couldn't take it.

I had just finished saying that when someone knocked me down and threw me to the ground, I couldn't react when they did the exact same thing to Enid. I looked at her confused and got up slowly while looking at the person in charge.

-Wednesday: It was the only way to stop that horrendous scene - she pretended to retch - I thought I was watching High School Musical for a moment and planned to burn my retinas.

-Enid: High School Musical is a good movie - she complained - But I guess we should leave the displays of affection for when we are alone - she smiled as she looked at me.

-Wednesday: - nodded - That would be the best, besides... We need to start working on the Poe Cup. I want you all in top shape to humiliate Bianca again - she crossed his arms - And obviously we have to build the best canoe of all.

-Enid: The captain was me - she pouted - But you're right, we'll start with the preparations this afternoon.

I took advantage of the fact that Enid was going to be busy with Yoko and Wednesday to sneak into the library in search of answers once again. Since Brooke's betrayal, the new librarian to everyone's surprise was Tyler. We explained the situation well to the principal and the Sheriff and they allowed him to work for Nevermore. Although honestly, I still didn't like him, I couldn't forgive him for hurting my people.

- Tyler: Y/N... I didn't think of you as a bookworm - he commented when he saw me - Can I help you with something?

-Y/N: Yes, shut that mouth and help me keep the silence I need to concentrate - I said to him before heading to the lycanthrope section.

Although I could have researched on how to develop my skills beyond the fire, I was more urged to break the bond with my mother and create a new one with Enid. The truth is that with everything that had happened and how busy we had been, I still hadn't given her a concrete answer about my own feelings. She had been honest with me and had made it clear to me that I had become her partner for life, the minimum was that at least I would constest her and tell her that she was also my mate.

However, I was quite confused about the topic of preliminaries, the act of creating the bond and so on... What was the correct order? What exactly did I have to do to make things right according to her traditions? Because in the case of the kitsunes, we paired up like any human would and that's it. But for lycanthropes everything related to their partners was of great importance and that's why I thought to investigate thoroughly before starting to plan how to approach the wolf.

-Y/N: There are too many things to take into account - I said out loud to myself while reading.

Apparently a bond was created when one of the two of the couple marked the other, it could be either through a bite or through a scratch deep enough. And not only that, the links could be either complete or incomplete. They were only completed when the two in the couple had been marked by each other, or in other words, had claimed each other and were officially a couple. That is, they belonged to each other.

Wow... Was I mentally and emotionally ready for something so serious with Enid? According to what I was reading in the book, the bond for the lycanthropes was so serious that if for whatever reason it were to break, they could suffer a great depression and die of it. Was I willing to expose Enid to something so painful? Although of course, I trusted that we were never going to separate. Why would we do that? But I was worried about the fact that if something happened to me and I died, she wouldn't be able to bear what that pain would mean.

Asking the blonde to make a bond between us was much more serious than asking her to marry me... We were seventeen years old, it seemed a bit excessive to make her answer such a serious question. But on the other hand, I had no choice if I wanted to break the bond with my mother. What was clear to me was that if I created a bond with Enid, I wanted to do it because I was sure of our feelings and I really wanted to commit to her for the rest of my life. The matter of my mother should have been in the background.

-Y/N: I think I should start by asking her on a proper first date - I said to myself before closing the book and leaving the library in search of the wolf.
