Chapter 259: Speech preparation

Bai Yi Yang woke up early and wore her ironed school uniform. Today, she wore one of the twilly scarf that Ah Qi gave her, it's mainly navy blue colour with white and the pattern looks like a Greek's painting. It looks sophisticated.

She also put some effort with her look today. Her hair is curled up a bit to add volume, then she wear a thin layer of powder and cherry lip balm. Like that, she is done with it.

Once the breakfast is done, she call her siblings to eat breakfast. The children is enthusiastic about attending the ceremony today and Bai Yi Fang even make sure that all the stuff she needs is there. The children can change at Old Zhou house later.

Bai Yi Yang, Bai Yi Chen and Bai Yi Ling say goodbye to their younger siblings and head to the bus stop. Zhang Ming Ming who is usually late is actually very early today, she is holding an extra bag in her hand.

"What? Even after dressing up, I will still look like potato like this." Zhang Ming Ming said to Bai Yi Yang after looking at her up and down. Bai Yi Yang look prettier than usual today.

"I don't have choice. I am giving speech today, cannot embarrassed the school." Bai Yi Yang smile awkwardly and hug Zhang Ming Ming's arm.

"What speech?" Zhang Ming Ming ask confusedly. She thought Bai Yi Yang is only busy getting awards today, she also have to deliver a speech? Indeed, a top student is different.

"I don't know what it's call. I am giving speech together with a junior and Senior Li Jian Yu." Bai Yi Yang said. Mr.Ling also didn't say clearly why she is giving a speech, he just said that she have to prepare one. If she guess right, it is the outstanding performance award. This should be similar to the award in Bai Yi Ling's school. This award is only given to 3 people, it is based on overall performance in academic and co-curriculum.

"Ah, I think you are chosen as an outstanding student. They are the one that usually give speech." Zhang Ming Ming said to Bai Yi Yang. The she look at her best friend again as if she is a beast, a genius.

"I guess so." Bai Yi Yang said and grin at Zhang Ming Ming.

"Amazing! Simply amazing." Zhang Ming Ming said and continue asking questions. She is a bit curious about this matter since she never have such an excellent friend like Bai Yi Yang before.

But, once they arrive at school, Zhang Ming Ming was pulled by the Theatre Club's members for rehearsal. Bai Yi Yang can only head to class with Bai Yi Chen. Once they arrive in class, Bai Yi Chen is also pulled away from her. Leaving her there feeling a bit lonely.

She was contemplating what to do since only a few people is free like her when Li Jian Yu actually look for her in her class.

"Yi Yang, Senior Li is looking for you." It was Gu Li Ni who called Bai Yi Yang.

"Ah?" Bai Yi Yang turn around and saw Li Jian Yu at the door. Gu Li Ni was gossiping with another female classmate, they noticed Li Jian Yu first.

"Senior." Bai Yi Yang got up and walk over. Li Jian Yu today is also different than usual, he is smiling gently and his clothes also looks more neat. He did put some effort ah.

"Thanks Li Ni." Bai Yi Yang pat Gu Li Ni's shoulder as she head out and the later hum.

"The teacher in charge want us to rehearse the speech on stage before the event." Li Jian Yu said to her.

"Oh, then wait for a while." Bai Yi Yang ran inside to take her school bag. There is nothing much inside but she still want to bring it with her. If she is not mistaken, she won't have time to return again until the event ended.

"Let's go." Bai Yi Yang grinned.

"You put some effort today I see." Li Jian Yu said as he look at Bai Yi Yang.

"You notice it. You look not bad yourself." Bai Yi Yang laugh. She and Li Jian Yu is like brothers, things like this, they can talk about it naturally.

But, there bound to be people who may misunderstand their relationship. Take Song Zheng Sheng for example, she and Li Jian Yu was chatting casually when he and his friends passed by. Bai Yi Yang nod at him and he nod back but Li Jian Yu noticed Song Zheng Sheng's unfriendly gaze at him.

"That junior, isn't he interested with you before?" Li Jian Yu ask once they are far.

"Yeah. But it was long time ago, I rejected him and said I have a boyfriend now." Bai Yi Yang explain.

"I see. No wonder he sends a glare at me.." Li Jian Yu laugh awkwardly.

"Eh? He did? Then I have wronged you senior." Bai Yi Yang said. That Song Zheng Sheng must have misunderstood them. Did he thought that Li Jian Yu is her boyfriend? But, she didn't mind, as long as it is not true.

"No problem." Li Jian Yu only smile.

The two of them arrived inside the hall and saw the junior that will be delivering speech with them is also rehearsing. He saw them and become a bit nervous, he paused a bit and Bai Yi Yang send a bright smile at him, only then he start to focus again.

"Who is he?" Bai Yi Yang ask curiously to Li Jian Yu.

"Yao Ming, he is in Grade 9. He is top in his batch and he won a chess competition in City Nan before. He is also in the junior team of school debate. Next year, you can asses him carefully, he said he wanted to try the R&D team." Li Jian Yu said.

Both QiYing High School and Primary School have strong chess team, that's why they always produce champions. Usually, those who excel during their primary school days will continue when they enter high school. This Yao Ming is exactly a good example.

"Is that so? Well, I will wait and see how he do in the interview." Bai Yi Yang smile.

"Alright, you know what to do." Li Jian Yu smile back and they focus on the speech. Yao Ming is a bit nervous and he look quite tense on stage, but he finished his speech in the end.

"Yao Ming, be more relaxed, no one will eat you." The female teacher aka the MC of this ceremony said to Yao Ming through the mic. When she saw Li Jian Yu and Bai Yi Yang, she gestured them to come forward.

"Hello Teacher Wen, I am Bai Yi Yang." Bai Yi Yang introduced herself formally. This Teacher Wen didn't taught their class, Li Jian Yu seems quite close with her though.

"I know, I know. You look more pretty up close." Teacher Wen praise. Bai Yi Yang was taken aback by the compliments and grin.

"Teacher Wen is also beautiful. I have only seen you from afar during assembly before." Bai Yi Yang praise back. Her praise may not have the same effect as Ruby An but Teacher Wen still smile back happily.

What follow after is that she start rehearsing her speech and Teacher Wen don't have much complaints, she just correct the name of guests that will come today and those that wouldn't come to those who will be replacing them. Then, it was Li Jian Yu turn to do rehearsals.

When it was Li Jian Yu turn, some groups that will perform also getting ready below the stage, they listen and gave Li Jian Yu a huge applause.

"I feel so proud." Bai Yi Yang said once Li Jian Yu came off stage.

"Senior, Ruby did train you quite well." She praise again.

"That's indeed true, her training is quite effective." Li Jian Yu nod and laugh lightly.

"Should I mentioned her in my speech?" He ask after a while.

"Senior, are you two dating?" Bai Yi Yang ask.

"Not like that. I noticed that you mentioned many people in your speech." Li Jian Yu quickly deny it.

"Senior, if you mentioned Ruby name out of nowhere, people will think that you are dating. If you wanted to mention her, then you need to mention a few more people, like me and Yi Lin jie too." Bai Yi Yang grin. Li Jian Yu will cause uproar if he suddenly mention Ruby's name alone.

"Then I will do that." Li Jian Yu said and ask Bai Yi Yang a few things again. He think that Bai Yi Yang did very well in her speech while his is very boring.

"Senior Li, Senior Bai." The two was chatting when Yao Ming come over. Yao Ming was contemplating to come or not but no matter how he think, he need to take this chance to talk to this two school legend.

"Junior Yao, what is it?" Li Jian Yu stop talking with Bai Yi Yang and said this.

"Senior Li, you know me?" Yao Ming look shocked.

"Of course he knows you. You are quite famous yourself." Bai Yi Yang smile. Yao Ming is not tall, his height is only a few cm taller than her. If they stand side by side, they can meet each other eyes while Li Jian Yu is quite tall.

"Senior Bai also know me?" Yao Ming look stunned. This female senior is only 1 year older than him but their gap in achievement is so huge, he is too embarrassed to say that they only have 1 year difference.

Bai Yi Yang actually don't know him but she still nod so that he won't be embarrassed. He just got to know his name today and it was Li Jian Yu who tell her. She didn't pay attention much to the junior high school students, so she don't know Yao Ming before.

"Why? Do you want to ask something?" Li Jian Yu smile and ask again.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just want to ask for tips. Actually, I want to try for the R&D team next year and I heard Senior Bai is forming a team with Senior Ruby, there is even a second team. I won't ask to join your team but I would like to have a shot for the second team." Yao Ming said honestly.

"Well, you need to ask your Senior Bai like that." Li Jian Yu smile and pass the ball to Bai Yi Yang.

"Err..actually we don't have much criteria. But, we will prioritise R&D club members. If we found enough people for the teams within the club, then we won't interview non-club members. So my tips is to join R&D club next semester." Bai Yi Yang said in straightforward manner.

"Really?!" Yao Ming eyes widened.

"Yes. If you are interested to join the team, then naturally you will join the R&D club. We will share important information during club meetings too starting next semester. If you don't join the club then there is no better opportunity to join the team." Bai Yi Yang said. Li Jian Yu at the side nod. Seems like Ruby An won't have to worry about keeping the club running next year.

"Senior Bai, I will definitely apply for R&D club next year." Yao Ming said with high spirit. Bai Yi Yang is a predecessor where a junior can beat many seniors and make it into the team.

"En. Work hard and if you really are capable, we won't discriminate against age." Bai Yi Yang said. Yao Ming said thank you one more time and went to the side to practice his speech.

"These juniors got inspired by you. But they don't know that you were the one who start the team. Their expectation is that they will achieve the same thing as you but the reality is in fact not as pretty as they thought. Seems like, many of them will be disappointed next year." Li Jian Yu comment.

"If they are determined to make it into the teams, even if they fail the first time, they will try again. This is how we know if someone is really serious or not. Our journey wasn't easy too." Bai Yi Yang smile.

"That's right. But our journey was made easy by you, without you, we can't even start it. Even if we start, it would have been broken halfway." Li Jian Yu add.

Just remembering the conflict with Madam Lilian and Wang Yi Lin's parents, he got a goosebumps. When his parents heard of this in the beginning, they were skeptical too, they told him to focus on the Mathematics Olympiad instead, but he was determined at that time and he believed Sir Austin 100%.

The result made his parents in awe, they cried a whole day when they heard that their school made it to final. Don't have to say when they got gold, her parents was very dramatic, even more than Wang Yi Lin's parents. He turn to look at the petite girl besides him and smile lightly.

What a pity, he can't even be as confident as Song Zheng Sheng. Bai Yi Yang is someone that he can't even dream of so he didn't start it. Being a good senior is already enough, Li Jian Yu sigh.

"What?" Bai Yi Yang who was reading her note turn her head.

"Nothing. I am just a bit nervous." Li Jian Yu lie.

"Senior, you can do it. Once you graduate today, you can even soar to the sky. What with a small speech like this." Bai Yi Yang said with high spirit and hit Li Jian Yu's shoulder like a good brother. Li Jian Yu can only smile bitterly and buried whatever odd feeling left deep inside the ground, maybe he should even buried it to the core of the earth.
