PREPARATIONS

I woke up to a knock on my door again,I reached over to the beside table and tapped my phone the time was 9am.I groaned and got out of bed to check who was at the door,knowing fully well that it'd be the girls.

"Who is it?",I yelled making my way to the door.

"Open up bitch",Katherine yelled and I heard Lisa and Diane snicker and I smiled.

Asides from Lisa I also made some other friends,they found me and our friendship is beautiful.There's Katherine,Lucas and Diane who are wolves,Lisa and Kai who are Vampires.

There's an annual ball called the 'RETZ BALL' this saturday,I'd guarantee that's the reason why they are banging on my door at 9am.I remember Katherine saying last week that we needed to go shopping for the ball but the memory was somewhat hazy.

I made my way to the door and opened it,the trio were standing on my door step looking all happy and cherry after they interrupted my sleep.I sighed heavily and looked at them with a blank face. I'm pretty sure my face was swollen,I had a bad time falling asleep last night.

"What are you guys doing here?It's 9 in the morning!",I asked with a blank face and kept my hand on the door frame blocking their entrance.

Katherine shoved me aside and the remaining 2 entered after her making their way to the living room and dropping their bags,i sighed for the hundreth time and closed the door.Who was I kidding anyways they were 10× stronger than me.I followed them as they made their way to my room.

"9 am is early enough and you wouldn't be complaining if you had slept early last night but instead of staying home to sleep,you decided to go out and fall asleep on a park bench!",Katherine said in an out of breath tone.

I glared at Lisa but she was looking everywhere except me, she could have just kept the happenings of last night between us.

I sighed"Katherine,it really was a mistake I don't-"I was cut off.

"A mistake that could have cost you your life,do you know how worried we were when Lisa came to check up on you and you weren't home?"Her hands were on her hips and she was staring at me hard.

"Ness,you also weren't picking your phone,things were chaotic around here"Diane also chirped in but in a calm voice.

I was taken aback,I knew they cared about me but I didn't know they cared this much.We've literally just known each other for like 2 months,I didn't-

"Hey hey,Vanessa are you okay?", I felt a hand on my shoulder,it was Lisa.I looked at her with teary eyes and nodded."Yeah,I'm okay".

"Ugh,come here",Kat opened her arms and I went right into it."don't ever scare us like that again okay",I nodded my head and the girls gathered in and made it a group hug.

After they were done squishing me,we moved into my room.I plopped on the bed,Lisa and Diane sat on the edges and Katherine made her way to my closet.I followed her movements,the moment she opened my closet I sat upright.

"Uh,what are you doing?"I directed my question to Katherine who had started rummaging through my closet.

"Isn't it obvious,I'm trying to pick out an outfit for you".She replied still focused on my closet.

"But,what's wrong with what I'm wearing"I looked down at my comfy pajamas like pants.

"Really!",she raise a brow."You're literally in your pajama's,put this on"She threw a high waist jean and a crop top at me.

"I...."she made the shushing sound and cut me off."No excuses,its basic and right for the mall."

"Jesus Kat ,I was about to say I loved it",They laughed and left to give me privacy.I took a quick shower,put on the outfit and quickly packed a bag.

I placed my hand on the handle about to open the door and i heard a knock on the bedroom door."jeez,have patience will you!I'm already done",I opened the door and met with an impatient Katherine.

"There's going to be a lot of girls at the mall wanting to get a dress too so we need to hurry"Katherine said as we made our way outside.Diane and Lisa were already in the car waiting.

"Okay,okay",I locked my door and got into the car.

Diane was the designated driver.She put the car in gear and drove out of my driveway onto the main road.I reached over from the back to turn on some music.

"There's really never anything good on the radio these days",I kept turning the dial till I came across a channel playing dua lipa 'don't stop'.It was the perfect summer song.I leaned back in my seat,whined down the mirror letting the cool summer breeze blow my red locks around.

Lisa started vibing along to the song,screaming at the top of her lungs and waving her hand in the hair.She was practically dancing,Katherine's car is a convertible with a moonroof.Eventually we all joined in except Katherine who had to stay focused on the road,people in other cars just stared at us and some boys just kept cat whistling.

We got to the mall just as the song ended and I felt great,that little jamming session was really therapeutic.Katherine found a parking spot in the handicap spot,we tried to talk her out of it but she said and I quote "pfftt,its fine well be in and out no one would even know we packed here".

"Okay ballerina's get out of my car".

We got out,put on our shades and headed towards the entrance of the mall,when we entered we were in a formation.I and Katherine were in the middle while Lisa and Diane flanked us,it felt like a scene from mean girls.I expected us to enter one of the too many shops we had passed but we just kept on walking.

We walked to the section almost at the end of thr mall,we stopped at Claudie pierlot.

Katherine clasped her hands together and faced us,"Okay guys,I was thinking we should do something different from others,Claudie's an old friend of my mom and she's extremely good at designing ball gowns."

She didn't give us a chance to respond as she pulled open the double doors of the shop.A little bell rang and that got the attention of the people in the shop.

A dark haired woman dressed in a puffy skirt with black leggings under and a blouse made her way towards us.

"Katherina,ma cherie",she gave Katherine a peck.I could detect the strong French accent in her words.

"Hi madame claudie,these are my friends Lisa,Vanessa and Diane".

"Well come in come in come in",She ushered us in.

The shop was actually alot bigger than it was on the outside and it looked amazing too.We sat on a love seat.

"So you ladies need ball gowns for the ball,any thoughts in mind?",she motioned her assistant to get her a tape rule.

I chose a red gown just so I could match my hair,Diane went for a lilac dress,Lisa went for a blue dress and Katherine went for a black dress.She took our measurements and what not,I told her I wanted a dress with the hem pushed up.

After an hour of madame Claudie probing around and taking our measurements we left the shop.

"Its just 1am,what should we do",I asked as well got to the car,I really didn't want to go home just yet.

"Ouh that reminds me,there's a carnival going on at the town square".Diane said,"I heard some people talking about it this morning".

"To the carnival it is,everyone get in".I was pretty excited for the carnival,I haven't been to one since in was 7 years.

The town square was lively with music booking from several shops.There were rides,food vendors,games and what not,the air also smelt fresh and delicious

Katherine parked in a handicap spot again,Lisa literally tossed her to the back seat and took the wheel,she found us a better parking spot and it was convenient too for when we had to leave.

"Okay guys,we split up and meet back here in 2 hours",I said in a giddy tone as we left the car.

"Hey,when was that decided",Katherine said as she adjusted her lipstick in the rear view mirror.

"Yeah,nothing ever comes out of splitting up"Diane the horror movie addict added.

I looked at Lisa and she put her hands in the air in defeat.

I started making my way to the entrance of the carnival."OK fine,but i wanna ride the roller coaster first".

"Yeah not me,bye see you later",Katherine walked out.I laughed and looked at the other 2,"still wanna stick with me?".

"Lisa I smell corn dogs,let's go get some",Diane intertwined her hands with Lisa's and tugged her away.

I smiled to myself and made my way to the ferris wheel ticket booth and got a ticket. I was the last on the line and the line was really long, sometime later I stepped out to get a glass of lemonade from the stand next to the ticket booth.It finally got to my turn and I sat on the seat,the doors were about to close but they stopped and a tall guy wearing a tank top and sweat pants slipped in between them.

I froze as I took in his appearance,he looked like Mr barefoot and shirtless.He got in my passenger car and the breeze wafted his cologne into my nostrils,my heart began thumping really hard.Yep I'm definitely fucked,its him.

He took a seat opposite me and strapped in his seatbelt.

"Hi",he waved at me.Now that I look at him in broad daylight he looks really hot.

I shook myself out my thoughts and responded to his greeting with a small smile,I mean there's no need to be scared right!,its not like he saw my face that night right!.

The ride jerked forward and started,I closed my eyes to get the feel of it.It felt awesome and the view was amazing,at some point I almost fell forward and hit my head on Mr.barefoot and shirtless's lap but we thank the lord for seatbelts,they are real life savers.

I mostly enjoy going on roller coasters for the thrill and because of the butterflies its gives me in my tummy.The ride came to an end,I unbuckled my seat belt and got out of the pod as fast as I could clutching my bag to my chest.I was literally walking like my legs were on fire.

"Excuse me",I heard a deep voice call after me and I halted,yup this is the end of me he finally noticed me!.

"You dropped this" I looked back to see him holding an object in his hand,I looked closely and recognized it.

I reached out to collect it from him,"Oh my inhaler,yeah thank you it must have fallen out of my bag during the ride".I said with an awkward smile and voice.

"You're welcome",He fluffed his hair with his hands and walked away with his hands in his pockets.I was so glad that he didn't ask for my name and try to make a conversation.

I took my phone from my bag,called the girls and told them to re-group at the photobooth almost at the entrance of the Carnival.
