Bottomless chasm

Auric found himself in a dark place, he seemed to be in a hallway in a location with which he was oddly familiar. A place that led to his present predicament.

A series of footsteps resounded and he he saw two royal guards dragging a badly injured lady to a double wooden door, the door was opened a bit so he couldn't see what was inside but he didn't want to anyway.

"Lock her up and do the usual."  A familiar voice ordered. He knew the voice well and in as much as he wanted to extricate himself from this mess he couldn't control any part of his body. Yep, it was a dream.

"It's going to be big news to the realms if they wake up and hear that one of the monarchs has gone missing. I wonder what those slithering animals would do?"  Another voice said.

The first person didn't speak for a few minutes and when Auric lifted his head, there he was staring at him like he had got another prey...

Auric's eyes fluttered open. The end of the dream. Nope, it didn't have the qualifications to be called a dream and calling it a nightmare would be far too stretched. This was a night terror. Torture in its highest form.

Auric got down from the bed and walked towards the balcony. The midnight air blew his loose hair back and spat coldly on his face.

He thought that he would have peace after being banished but it seemed he was wrong. He was being tortured both physically and emotionally and now he felt numb. His strength had waned from his body and all that was left was an empty husk.

He felt that time would quickly wane away but it proved to move in a tortoise's shoes. The moon smiled at him, seemingly mocking him for his incapabilities to stand up for himself and those he loved and all that pierced the already dying heart.

He never cherished it when he had it and now that he has lost it, he wishes for it.

Auric stood in front of the railings the whole night and when the sun came rocking new life into existence, he stared blankly at it.

'What is the use of the sun if my life is always covered in darkness? ' He seemed to be asking.

Walking back into the room, he closed the curtains and the shatters brought pure darkness into the room. He melded into the darkness and tried to clear his mind but it was way too difficult.

His mind was a mess, as it had always been so he let nature take its course. Maybe when he revisits the old, painful memories it would grant him the peace he needed.

He leaned back on the couch and the memories began playing in front of him like a movie in a theatre.

He revisited the painful memories piece after piece and shortly something broke in him. He felt numb while watching it replay. He felt no emotion. He had crossed the bridge to the other side and without a redeemer, he would be lost forever.

He had descended into the bottomless chasm. Funny though, all the happy memories he had before that were waning out. He couldn't remember them anymore.

He closed his eyes and threw back his head. He felt nothing, his heart had been numbed, his soul had grown dark and his body had no strength to continue grieving.

When the sun had reached its zenith, Odin entered Auric's chamber to find it encompassed with darkness.

This kind of darkness would not be derived simply by closing the curtains, his new change had brought about this development.

Shaking his head, he retreated. The young man needed time to heal, he needed a saviour and as much as he hated it, he was not the saviour.

He was not his saviour but he needed to tell one person, maybe that person could point out the way.

The way to salvation.
