Chapter 28

She immediately felt inferior, she knew what she was wearing wasn't as sophisticated and professional as them, but she when she had looked at herself in the mirror, she was looking quite beautiful, even her son and Zain had complimented her

' was it really that obvious that she didn't belong? ' she thought to herself

Zain could feel the tension in the atmosphere, he needed to do something " good morning Sylvia, I heard you were a little bit ill, how are you feeling now?"

Sylvia suddenly became dumbfounded, she didn't know what to say, she really wasn't expecting Zain to talk to her again, she contemplated whether to answer or ignore him but then he spoke again, she must have been lost in thought again, she thought to herself, "Sylvia, I said how are you doing?" Zain's voice pierced through her thought

Sylvia quickly came back to her senses and she replied him with a hint of coldness and disgust "am fine" she said

even Zain was taken aback, never has Sylvia responded to him in that manner, maybe she was still upset with him, he would find a way to make it up to her, "meet my friend Jane, Jane meet my colleague Sylvia the rest of them are not here yet, we are kinda of up to ten in this department" Zain added trying to ease the tension a bit more

Sylvia suddenly felt bad for the way she had looked at Jane, she thought she was the girl he spoke about, she quickly put a smile on her face and sounded welcoming "good morning Jane welcome to Smith's corporation and our office" Sylvia said

Jane looked at her surprisingly ' was this not the person from earlier or she was changed ' Jane thought, then she realized that she wasn't the problem here, this girl must either like Zain and felt jealous and insecure because of her or something was going on between them, she thought again

either ways it was none of her business, she would even be happy if the latter was true, that way Mrs Whitney can stop trying to matchmake them together "thank you very much Sylvia, nice being here, you have a very nice office and beautiful desk too" she responded

"thank you very much" Sylvia giggled and went back to tidying up her desk, she was unable to to do that on Monday before leaving, that's because she probably had to run away "all thanks to Zain" she muttered silently, her minded drifted back to what happened on Monday, and she couldn't help but feel heartbroken again, she quickly put the thought away and continued cleaning, she was not going to keep sulking and crying over split milk, Zain doesn't like her and that's it

Zain noticing the change in atmosphere felt relieved "please sit here Jane while I get us something to eat" Zain spoke and took her to seat while he left the office, Jane sat down and kept admiring the office, it was really beautiful, she thought

Even though Sylvia tried to concentrate she couldn't, she noticed how Zain was being affectionate with her, she could not help but feel jealous and angry at the same time but she knew better than to act irrational, even if she was the girl he talked about, it wasn't the poor girl's fault that she was so unfortunate with men, so she was not going to take it out on her, she still felt bad for the way she treated her earlier

she decided she was going to apologise to her "hey Jane am really sorry about my attitude earlier, you see am not feeling to well" Sylvia said lying even though it was half the truth, she was really sick but it wasn't her body but her heart

Jane smiled at her and responded to her "it's really okay, I totally understand"

' yeah you do ' Sylvia thought, she wanted to return to her work but then curiosity took over her, she really wanted to know if she was the girl Zain had talked to her about she concluded she was going to ask "are you perhaps the girl Zain is helping with a job" Sylvia asked hoping to hear a no but she was disappointed

"yes I am" Jane said "oh, I thought as much" Sylvia said almost wanting to cry, Jane noticing the change in her mood felt sorry for her, either of her suspicions were true "there's nothing to going on between Zain and I we are just neighbors, he's just helping me with the job, nothing more, I don't like him and I never will, be rest assured' Jane added and nodded with a smile

Sylvia felt relieved at her words, and then she felt embarrassed, did she know something, did Zain tell her something, but he couldn't have, she hadn't even told him anything about how she feels for him

As if reading her thoughts "don't worry Zain didn't say a word to me, I just noticed it" Jane added "oh okay, thanks" she didn't know why she was thanking her but she felt the need to, she wanted to say something else when Zain walked in, she spotted him and continued with her work, she wasn't ready to talk to him yet

Zain saw her and felt a bit bad, did she really hate him that much, he thought, maybe it's for the better, he thought to himself again, he walked up to Jane and handed her the sandwich and juice, "I didn't know what you would like so I got this for you, I hope you like it" Zain said

"it's okay thanks very much" she said trying not to smile too much at him

After they finished eating their breakfast, Zain said "I will be get working, you will have to wait at the waiting area, once it's 11 we will leave, I just need to tidy up some stuffs" he said asking for her approval

Sylvia couldn't help but wonder ' where could they be going ' she thought ' were they going on a date? ' she thought again "but I thought she said she wasn't interested in him, why go on a date with him" she muttered to herself
