Chapter Forteen : The Expedition (1)

Joe woke up early and got ready for his new job. He had been hired by the head of the Walker family, one of the richest and most influential families in Coastfield City, to protect his son, John, who was going on an expedition to the eastern forest. John was a young and adventurous boy, he wanted to explore the forest and find the rumored ruins. He had also invited two of his friends, Leo and Mia, who were also from wealthy and powerful families.

Joe had met John the previous day when he had gone to the Walker mansion to receive direct orders from the family head. John asked a lot about the forest path and the terrain of that region. Joe had also warned John about the dangers of the forest, such as wild animals and poisonous plants.

Joe received a generous offer from the head of the Walker family, who had also given him the order to protect his son. He had thanked him for his trust and generosity, and he had promised to do his best to protect John.

He had left the mansion and gone to his room, where he had packed his bags and prepared his weapons. He took the B rank badge too.

He left his room and headed to the gate of the city, where he would meet John and his friends. He arrived there and saw them waiting for him. They were accompanied by their own family's guards, who were also there to protect them.

John greeted Joe with a smile and said.

"Hey, Joe! You're here! Are you ready for the expedition ?"

Joe nodded and said.

"Yes, I am."

Joe also greeted the two friends standing near John.

"Hello I am Leo from the Millet Family it is nice to meet you" Leo greeted Joe.

"I'm Mia from the Anderson family" Mia also said.

He looked at the group and saw that they were all well-equipped and looked disciplined. He hoped that they would be able to handle the expedition without any trouble.

He said to them.

"Alright, everyone. Let's set out".

The group went to the teleportation station and went to the forest.

After that, they traveled for a while.

The guards of the group were alert all the time, so they could respond to any unexpected events.

Soon night fell and the group decided to make a campsite in a safer place in the forest, they made tents and placed magic spells on the ground to alert them if there were any movements in the forest ground near them.

During Night 

Joe and the guards heard a loud noise that woke them up from their sleep. They recognized it as the alarm spell that they had cast around their campsite to alert them if anything approached them. They quickly got out of their tents and grabbed their weapons. They saw John, Leo, and Mia peeking out of their tents, looking scared and curious.

Joe told them to stay inside and not to worry.

He said.

"Don't worry, John, Leo, Mia. It's probably nothing. Just stay inside your tents and we'll handle it."

He then followed the guards outside the campsite, where they saw a huge bat flying above them. It was the size of a horse, with black fur, red eyes, and sharp teeth. It made a loud screeching sound that echoed through the forest.

Joe and the guards were shocked and alert. They had never seen such a creature before. They wondered what it was and where it came from.

They decided to kill it before it could harm them or the nobles.

They attacked it with their weapons and magic.

The guards were skilled and experienced fighters, who had been trained by their families to protect them. They used swords, spears and bows to attack the bat from a distance. They also used various kinds of magic, such as wind, water and lightning, to create projectiles.

Joe was also a skilled and experienced fighter, who had been trained by himself to survive as a hunter. He used his sword and fire magic to attack the bat from close range. He also used his devil fruit power, which gave him the ability to manipulate and become light, to move faster and dodge better.

He did not use his power in front of the guards, as he wanted to keep it a secret from most people. He also wanted to save it for emergencies or special occasions.

He moved around the bat, hitting it with his sword and fire magic.

The bat was strong and fierce, but also clumsy and stupid. It tried to fight back, but it was outnumbered and outmatched. It could not handle the attacks from Joe and the guards.

It was wounded and weakened by their weapons and magic.

It was killed by their final blow.

The guards cheered and raised their swords in celebration.

"Yeah, We did it. We killed the bat".

After extracting the mana core the team leader said to others,

"Let's go back to the campsite. We need to rest."

They walked back to the campsite, where they saw John, Leo, and Mia waiting for them. They were waiting for them to report the situation.

Leo asked the guards "What was it that attacked the campsite ?"

"It was a giant bat that attacked us. We fought it and killed it." the guard replied.

"we managed to kill it and extracted its mana core, it was a C rank monster" the guard reported.

"hmm there will be more attacks from the beasts, so be alert and don't make any mistakes" Mia ordered.

"Yes Maam," The guards said together.

"Joe, how long will it take to reach the eastern part of the forest ?" Leo asked Joe.

"If we start our journey tomorrow morning we will reach our destination around the next day noon, it will take one and a half days" Joe replied.

"Ok then let's rest well and tomorrow we will set out early morning," John said.

"Yes, sir" The guards replied.

after that, they went to rest and appointed more guards on duty.

Joe rested right outside of John's tent.
