After reviewing the skill descriptions and status window, Kane smiled.
The core skills his class had granted him were suitable for this stage, and he was probably the only one who had a class in this first Historical Void stage.
'Well, with this, I can rest easy for the time being,' he thought.
After closing the status window, Kane fixed his gaze again on the group of people, most of whom were terrified as they looked around the blood-filled place. He sighed as he imagined how chaotic the material world would be with so many monsters.
'I just hope no monsters have appeared near this body's mother's house.'
Putting that thought aside, Kane closed his eyes for a moment, opened them again, and looked at Rachel, who had remained indifferent since the message windows appeared.
"Hmm, what had he told me before? I didn't hear right because of all the windows that popped up."
Rachel looked away from the group of people and watched him calmly.
"I was asking you, Merlin, if you know what we should do now that we killed all the monsters in this place."
"Isn't it quite obvious? We are only at the beginning of the scenario given by the Historical Void. If you thought this was the end, you're wrong. Didn't you read what it said? We're in a maze and must get to the chamber where the final monster is."
Kane spoke loud enough for all the survivors to hear him and not get the wrong ideas just because they had survived the traps and the sudden monster attack.
All the people sighed in relief, thinking they were near the end, but their expressions changed as they remembered the message window when they were summoned: they were in the "Labyrinth of Crete," and it hadn't been long since this scenario began.
"Holy shit! I thought this hell was about to end, and it's just beginning!"
"I sob... I want to go home..."
"Damn it, we still have to keep suffering!"
"Damn creature that dragged us here against our will..."
Hearing all this, Kane added:
"Also, if you manage to survive this scenario, you will have to be vigilant not to be attacked by a story-eating monster, as the creature mentioned at the beginning. As you know, many people have died in this short time. One of them could be... your neighbor? Friend? family member?"
One of the people stepped forward, planted himself in front of Kane, and pointed his finger at him.
"Who the hell are you? Who the hell are you to say all those words!!! How are you so sure we're not at the end of this fucking stage? Tell me, who the hell are you to believe your damn words!"
The person turned to the others as he continued to point at Kane.
"All of you! Do you really believe this guy's words? How can he be so sure that this isn't the end and that we won't become monsters? Look around us; there are only organs, corpses, and blood. We are really with our spiritual body, as that creature said."
Kane watched the spectacle with a small smile, turned around, and continued into the labyrinth. He didn't feel like listening any longer to this person who seemed to be out of his mind; his mood was deteriorating.
"Hey! Where the hell are you going...?"
The person could not finish speaking because a small white sun appeared before his head, enveloping him entirely in beautiful white flames. Heart-rending screams echoed throughout the room as the person turned to ashes, and a deep silence fell over the place.
"You're too loud."
Kane spat coldly and glared at the others, including the protagonist, as he activated his trait. A violent, terrifying, and domineering aura emanated from his body, increasing the pressure in the room.
Everyone present began to gasp and break out in a cold sweat. It was as if they were in front of a "Calamity."
Soon after, Kane's deep and majestic voice was heard: "I'm not in the mood to listen to nonsense like that guy who just died. I just said that you can believe it or not, but I won't put up with another idiot like that for that long.
"Also, if you want to survive, change your mentality, especially you guys who weren't gamers before but are now. These kinds of situations are the new normal."
After saying that, Kane turned around and walked past the people who either looked at him in fear or lowered their heads in fright. He was followed by Rachel, who seemed unaffected by the overbearing aura.
"Wait!"
Kane turned around. His expression was cold and indifferent, but it softened a bit when he saw the person who called out to him. That person was the protagonist, who, for some reason, was also fine.
"What do you want?" he asked calmly as his mood stabilized again.
With a nervous smile, the protagonist, Theo, replied, "Let me introduce myself first. My name is Theo."
Kane also introduced himself with a slight smile, "I am Merlin Hermes. Tell me, what do you want from me?"
Theo hesitated for a moment before saying with determination:
"I wonder if we can team up with you two."
"Can we?" Kane raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, there are two of us," Theo said, pointing to the man he had saved from a monster attack.
Kane looked at Rachel and asked:
"What do you think?"
Uninterested, Rachel momentarily watched Theo and the man with him and said, "I don't care. Just don't let them get in the way."
"Then, no problem. And you, what's your name?" asked Kane of the man next to the protagonist.
"I am Lucius," the man replied, somewhat nervously.
"I understand. I look forward to working with you, Theo, and Lucius." Kane flashed a small, friendly smile.
"Same here," Theo replied.
After that, Kane and company began to walk through the room full of blood, corpses, and organs. A little further back, the others who had witnessed everything began to follow them, keeping a moderate distance, fearful of upsetting Kane's mood again.
...
As they walked down a poorly lit hallway, more spacious than before, Kane, now calmer, couldn't help but frown in annoyance.
'If it wasn't for Theo talking to me, I don't know how I would have reacted,' he thought.
The earlier reaction resulted from the corruption caused by the traits he had used earlier. As mentioned, those traits violate the fundamental laws of the world.
Therefore, they produce gradual corruption when used. Kane had been continuously using these traits, which generated much corruption because they came from large stocks. Thus, their influence on the personality is much more significant than that of a minor trait.
'Phew, once I finish this stage, I must quickly look for how to purify myself and erase the influences of those two existences.'
