Threat

"That's great! The boys and I will meet you guys the day after tomorrow," said Nicholas.

"How-How about Ella? Is she coming with us?" Adeline clenched her fist.

"Of course she is. Do you not like—"

"No, It's fine. I'm hanging up now." Adeline sighed as she ended the call.

She didn't mean to fall in love with him, but she did. She knew there was no chance for them to be in a relationship. Yet she fell in love with him, unpredictably. He already had someone in his heart, but the love that she had for him was still there.

Hearing his voice after a few weeks was all she needed. As long as she had him in her life, she'd be contented. She loved the way he made her feel when he was nowhere near. She didn't care if he loved someone else, but was it wrong to continue loving someone who continuously breaks your heart? It was hard to tell her mind to stop loving him if her heart still does.

"So how was it?" Molly snatched Adeline's phone.

Adeline grabbed her pillow and covered her face. "You saw everything right? The way how I answered his call."

"You'll someday have to get rid of those feelings completely."

"I don't have my eyes on—"

"Stop wasting your time hoping he is someone he is not, Adele." Abigail stood up and grabbed her shoulders. "You're just fighting for someone who doesn't even know how to fight for you."

Meanwhile...

(In the library)

"What a way to end a call." Jacob laughed, patting Nicholas' back.

Nicholas sighed, "If Peter was here—"

"Why? Have no one to side with you?"

"Well, it's been quite a while since Adeline and I conversed. Don't you think that I've been spending too much time with Ella?"

"Why are you asking me this?

"For the past few weeks, you'd always wake up early in the morning to meet up with Adeline and her roommates. I find it quite odd that you spend most of your free time with them."

"Nic-Nic, what are you talking about?" Jacob smiled as he scratched his head.

Nicholas scoffed. "Could it be that you—"

"No! No, I don't!"

"You-Your not straight...?"

Jacob blinked. "What?"

Nicholas put his hand under his chin as he leaned back on his chair. "You've been acting somewhat different ever since you started hanging out with them. Don't you think we'd doubt your gender?"

After hearing Nicholas say that, Jacob was finally able to exhale a long breath. He thought that Nicholas would assume that he was in love with Adeline, but he was mistaken.

"You dull-witted fool! How could you say that? You know that I have feelings for Molly." Jacob flicked his forehead.

"You must be so—"

His sentence was cut off by the sound of Jacob's phone ringing. As soon as he grabbed it, he waved Nicholas goodbye and walked out the door.

As the phone kept ringing, Jacob went to the dark corner of the alley. He then trembled with fear as he picked up the phone and said hello.

"Hello?" Jacob repeated. It was the same pattern, he talked, and the caller didn't.

"Son!" a woman shouted.

Jacob's arms jerked with tremors. "Mother? Let go of her!"

No one answered, and he waited for the hang up. He then heard an intake of breath and then a voice of a familiar man.

"I'm watching over you everyday, Jacob. If you don't listen to me, you're mother's life will be left in jeopardy."

Jacob grasped his phone. "Leave us alone!" He clenched his fist before realizing he made a mistake. Instead of listening to the man, he put the phone away from his ear and before he was even able to hear his last words, the man hung up which left him terrified.

Who do you think was the man that called Jacob?
