I WILL NEVER

My name is Ade, a guy with an infectious smile and a knack for making friends, especially female ones. Despite my good-natured charm, my family often teased me for being a ladies' man, much to my mom's concern. This led to a stint in an all-boys boarding school during high school, which made me miss my female friends even more. Fast forward to my post-high school days, I decided to take the Jamb exams (A Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level) to pursue my university dreams. With the exams scheduled in Lagos, the excitement was palpable, especially because my best friend Mercy studied at the University of Lagos (Unilag). I couldn't wait to crash at her place, a comforting thought as I prepped for the big day.

Final Episode

As the doctor delivered the news, a rush of relief flooded through me. "She's not pregnant," the doctor declared, and I couldn't help but burst into tears of joy. The weight that had been pressing down on me lifted, and I felt like dancing right then and there in the doctor's office. "I've been falsely accused, and no one in my family believed me," I explained to the doctor between my tears. The doctor chuckled softly. "I'm glad the truth has come to light for you." But the tension didn't completely dissipate.

My dad, frustrated and perhaps disappointed, sought another angle. "Doctor, her parents mentioned she's been vomiting. What could be causing that?" I could sense his hope for some sort of validation for the situation he seemed to have wanted to be true, just to prove a point.

" she is having a stomach virus, A stomach virus, often referred to as gastroenteritis, is an infection that causes inflammation in the stomach and intestines. It's commonly caused by viruses like norovirus, rotavirus, adenovirus, or astrovirus. Symptoms typically include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and sometimes headaches or muscle aches. Stomach viruses are highly contagious and can spread through contaminated food, water, or close contact with an infected person. Most cases resolve on their own with rest and hydration, but severe cases may require medical attention" the doctor cleared.

As we made our way back home, the tension in the car was palpable. "I can't believe I fell for this. How could I doubt my own son?" my dad muttered, casting a sideways glance at me. I stayed silent, feeling the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. Finally arriving home, Brother John, the trickster, was the first to greet us. His wide grin was a dead giveaway. "Surprise, surprise! Bekky's not pregnant," my dad blurted out, unable to contain his mischievous joy. "Congratulations, Ade. You're off the hook now," he teased, flashing a playful smirk.

As I sat in my room, engrossed in my Bible, the silence was disrupted by approaching footsteps. The door creaked open, revealing the solemn faces of my parents and Brother John, who looked unusually contrite.Mom spoke first, her voice soft but resolute. "Ade, we need to talk," she began, her eyes filled with concern and regret.Dad's expression softened, betraying a hint of remorse. "Son, what happened was a mistake. I was too quick to judge," he admitted, his tone more vulnerable than I'd ever heard it.Brother John shifted uncomfortably, his usual confidence replaced by an awkward shuffle. "I... I didn't mean for things to escalate like this," he murmured, struggling to meet my eyes.

Even though my anger was strong, something rare unfolded – my parents apologized, a first in our family's history. I nodded, a smile signaling my forgiveness. I embraced Dad, Mom, and my brother, John, feeling the warmth of our restored happiness.

"Hey Ade, I've never seen you with a Bible before. This incident must've really humbled you," teased my brother John, causing our parents to burst into laughter.

I finally went back to school, my parents ensured I lacked nothing. They swiftly provided whenever I called, making my schooling enjoyable again. Thank God Bekky wasn't pregnant, though we had something going on, which has stopped. No matter how beautiful a woman is, as long as I'm not ready for marriage, intimacy with her is something I WILL NEVER do.
