The darkness of evening had set in and the area behind the castle was covered with shadows. There were fewer candles the further the knight traveled away from the castle.
Henry went to the stables where the Royal Knights kept their horses and he quickly found Melan amongst many other large steeds. The Royal Knights often had the choice of the strongest and best-pedigreed horses after all.
As he approached the horse, he reached out his gloved hand and scratched his large snout.
"At least you won't betray me, right?" he uttered. "Though if someone gives you better carrots than what I can offer you, I suppose I would have to understand."
He clenched his fist. How ridiculous it was that he had been reduced to someone who spoke to animals rather than confiding in others with his issues.
Perhaps that's where he started, though. He had always preferred the company of animals rather than other people.
