At once, heaven's floodgates seemed to open and a sheet of water fell on top of them. The rain fell in thick drops that soaked them almost instantaneously. The only parts of them that were mostly dry were hidden underneath their cloaks.
They were halfway between the Duke's Tower and the tree line that led up the foothills and to the mountains. There was no cover and they would have to sprint someplace to or they were bound to get soaked completely through.
Irene looked shocked for a moment, but when reality set in, she went with the flow. A laugh escaped her lips.
The sound was so beautiful, all that Henry could do was stare at her. Her noise of elation made his heart feel like it was healed.
"We ought to get you back inside," Henry said. "I can't have one of my beloved knights getting sick."
