Chapter 8| Learning

It's been about 2 hours of pure and utter struggle. I took about an hour-long shower trying to clean myself of all the dirt on me, which didn't take long but I missed the warmth of one so I just stayed in way longer than expected.

After that came the hard part: brushing my hair. It was already a tangled mess from not properly taking care of it for over a month, but after washing my hair it just made the problem worse.

It took at least 40 minutes to straighten my hair out from its chaos, and I could feel so much relief when it was over.

Currently, I'm sitting on the couch waiting for Light who should be here soon.

Not a second later from the end of my thought, I hear a few slight knocks on my door. I stand up from where I am and go over to open it.

"Hey are you rea-"

Light began talking, but as soon as he looked at me he just stopped and stared.

"What?"

"Are you ready?"

"Yeah, but where are we going again?"

We leave my room and start walking to the main base located under the center of Yokohama.

"I'm giving you a tour around the underground base, so you get more familiar with it. Usually, I wouldn't do this myself, but I guess since you're my student now it shouldn't be that big of a deal."

"So, you had other students besides me?" I ask.

"Uh- Of course I have, I'm THE Light Sinclair, why wouldn't I have had other stu-."

"Liar."

"OK, So you're my first student so what?" He says.

"I was just curious, you look really young for someone to be pretty high up in the mafia, I'm guessing."

"I've been in the mafia for 2 years now, starting when I was 15. You can say I'm high up in the ranks. I'm an executive!"

He's 17? So just a year older than me.

He turns to me and gives me a small grin and a slight wink.

"Show off," I mumble

"Don't forget this show off is your boss right now."

"Whatever. Anyway, I'm still confused about a few things."

"Which is?"

"What do I do exactly here? Besides hearing that I'd be training, what do you mean by that and is there anything else I have to do?"

A few things are just an understatement. I entirely still don't get the things that are happening. It's like everything just went way too fast.

I mean I got caught by the mafia for doing a bunch of things that I shouldn't have, I talked with the HEAD of the mafia and almost died, Light saved me and now I'm joining the mafia.

That's way too much for a girl to handle.

"For now, since you're new you won't be doing much at least right now. You're going to be training, which means learning proper combat and strengthening yourself overall. Maybe throwing in some gun practice wouldn't hurt either."

"I'm getting into a lot aren't I?"

This sounds way tiring than expected.

"Isn't it obvious? Oh look we're here."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I never realized how big the base is, it's been about 3 hours since we started. I can't believe this is just the main base.
"So that's basically everything you'll need to know about this place. You won't be going to any of the smaller bases anytime soon, so I think you're good." Light says.
"Is that all you need to show me?"
"There are two more places left. Consider these the real important ones though."
There's more!? I swear to god.
We walked back to where we started and used an elevator to reach the lobby floor. I didn't think this place would have been too far, but we left the mafia building and went a little ways from it.
MY FEET HURT.
"We're here."
REALLY A TINY SHOP, what IS This CRAP?
We stood right in front of a plain door with an open sign. The building was slightly encased in different plants and bushes making it hard to see it from a distance.
"What is this place? I ask.
"See for yourself. It's one of the nicest places you can be in the mafia."
Going on ahead he opens the door and casually walks in. I follow in after him and take a glance around to learn about where I am.
Huh?
"Why are we at a BAR?"
"As I said I'm giving you a tour of the base, and this is the best part of it." He says
Light goes and takes a seat and immediately starts conversing with the bartender. Guess he must be a regular.
"The usual please," he tells the bartender then looks at me.
"Why do you look so confused, just sit down and relax. You're tired aren't you?"
What? He could tell?
"We have only one more place to go, but if you're too worn out we can just go another time."
Light takes his drink and spins the liquid around in the cup before taking a sip.
"No, we can go. It's only one more place and you did say it was important so let's just go."
But my poor feet...
Light slides a bill onto the table and turns to leave the building. I stand up slowly trying to gain control of my legs again before also walking out and joining him.
The last place we're going to was a little far, but on the bright side, it was close to the mafia building so as soon as we were done I could pass out in peace.
"Light this is just the park."
"Yeah, but just wait until you see the actual part."
He took me to the edge of the park which was enclosed in dense trees and pushed back the branches of a small bush.
It was breathtaking.
"You like it?" he asks.
"I've never seen anything like this before!"
Behind the trees was a small clearing that had many different types of flowers everywhere. There was even a beautiful pond.
" How did you even find this place?"
"It was about a year ago when I had to go on a mission. It was a joint operation with my friend Odasaku, but we had a big disagreement about something. I was so mad I just ran randomly not caring about where I was. Eventually, I found this place and it's kind of been my secret spot since then."
"So that's why you brought me here."
It makes sense. I think this is Light's way of looking out for me in the future. A mafia is a cruel place for someone like me. Who knows whether I'll even survive a week in. Light probably knows that.
"Thanks."
That's the least I can do for now.
"How about we sit down and talk for a while before we head back." He suggests.
"About what?"
I mean I guess he's right, if he's going to be my boss then maybe I should learn a few things.
"Well... We've known each other for a day, but I still don't know your name." He says embarrassingly.
"Oh right, I totally forgot to introduce myself, but I mean I never got the chance."
"Now you do, so go ahead."
"My name is Hoshimiya Yana, It's nice to meet you, Light Sinclair."
"The pleasure is all mine Hoshimiya Yana."
