Chapter 2| Can't Remember

Darkness...

That's all I saw. It's the type of darkness you see before going to sleep, but in this case, you were awake. Looking around, all I could really see was an endless void. At first, it seemed like a small room painted black on all sides, but as I ran... there was no end.

Seriously what's going on? Why am I here? This is confusing.

I kept walking around hoping something would be in this place until I saw a bright shining light appears to the right of me.

"You're a mo-monster. You- DISGUSTING CHILD."

"Haha a monster? That's rich coming from you. No, I'm not a monster... I'm your demon."

WAIT A MINUTE. I stare deeply into the light and make out to see two figures. The light started dimming a little bit at a time to show a fully playing video of... mother and me.

What is this? How is that me, if I'm right here? You know what, it must be another one of those weird dreams I've been having.

Over the years I had way too many weird dreams to count. They were hard to remember since I would easily forget them as soon as you wake up, but I tried to draw them out because whatever I did remember freaked me out and I needed to know what it meant.

In all of the dreams I managed to draw out, just showed a black thing. It's indescribable. The black things are really similar to this void place if I think about it except they like mutated or something. I'm not sure, but anyway, this HAS to be just a dream, SO WAKE UP YA DUMB IDIOT.

I pinched both of my arms, and then my cheeks, and my nose. I even banged my head on the "ground".

"What the hell. WHY AM I NOT WAKING UP?"

"STOP IT, S-STOP IT"

I glance back at the white screen and my mouth dropped. The entirety of my front house was destroyed. The trees, the two pillars next to the door, the door itself. Even the ground was made uneven with holes and debris everywhere.

My face appeared this time and very clearly I could see it. The same blackness that conquered my dreams was draped around my body flowing out on the ground below. My face was a pale white, while my long dark black hair floated slightly, moving in the strong wind that came out from nowhere.

It was the same thing, but what was even more shocking was the fact it was me. It was me destroying everything. The video then turned to my mother who was shaking at the doorstep.

"I'll kill you"

What? Why would I ever say this?

My mother tried shutting the door, but the shadow-like hand refused to let her. Tears were slowly flooding her eyes and spilling and she couldn't help but shake in the fear overcoming her. She tried once more, however realized it was no use and desperately tried to scramble back into the house.

The shadow briskly wraps around her foot and brings her back while strangling her as much as possible.

"Mother" I shout out.

I didn't know if this was real or not. I couldn't remember anything, but I couldn't stand my mother being put into this situation. So I ran. I ran right towards the video stops right in front of it. I thought it might have been just a wall or screen so I was about to bang on it, but instead, I fell through it as if it were nothing more than a projection.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ah, what the heck. Why does my head hurt so much?
I sit up to scan around and see that my surroundings were just piles of dirt and dust along with my mother weakly laid across the front stairs. How did this even happen?
"Mother... what happened? Are you alright?" I say as I sprint over to her.
"No N-No GET AWAY FROM ME! GET AWAY YOU FUCKING BITCH!" She tried to get up but just fell down again. I held her arm as a way to support her, however, she pushed me back.
"LEAVE GO AWAY, LEAVE MY HOUSE!" She once again tried but struggled to get up. Taking a different approach she started crawling up the stairs in whatever way she could. My dad came out of nowhere and started pulling the women carefully into the house. I'd like to say he came out randomly, but from the look of horror on his face, I could tell he witnessed whatever this was.
"You" he harshly said.
"Stay right there and don't move until the police come."
"Dad, what are you saying? What's going on?" I close my eyes for a second trying to pull any sort of memory related to this incident, but nothing. The last thing I recall is all of us just playing games, and me leaving for a little bit to eat food. After that is all a blur.. so what happened?
But Seriously are they actually calling the cops on their own daughter? Whatever I did, I never meant it, I probably didn't even do it. There's no way. Ugh, this doesn't even make sense, and the fact I can't remember any of it makes it even worse.
Being so occupied in the head, I didn't even register the fact that there were five cop cars surrounding the entrance of the house.
"Officer here she is. Please take her! She tried to kill my wife. Look around what she did." The officers all looked around and then at my mother.
"Shit." I spit out.
They really will think I did this. There's too much evidence for them to believe it wasn't me.
The cops all turn to me while pointing their guns.
" You're under arrest for attempted murder and destruction of property." said one.
"I can't convince this wasn't me can I."
"Afraid not, it's best if you don't move and listen to us." said another.
"Fat chance"
I start running in the opposite direction to the cars and tried to hide using the trees while grabbing my bag in the process.
"They're gonna catch up to me if I play this dumb."
My house is surrounded by small dense forests near Yokohama's port. I know them pretty well so I might be able to escape into the main city. As soon as I get there they won't be able to find me for a while if I lay low.
"Seriously though couldn't they give me at least like 30 minutes to pack some more things maybe grab a shower before I'd have to go."
Still running, I kept looking back to see anyone around.
"SEARCH THIS WHOLE DAMN FOREST IF YOU HAVE TO. WE AREN'T LETTING HER GO TODAY."
You could hear somewhat a faint yell coming from the direction of your house. It seemed like they were getting close, so you changed your direction going slightly left so that the officers would go straight and you wouldn't be quickly caught.
" I thought this forest was supposed to be small" I complain.
Not being much of a runner or just physically fit took a toll on me as my legs started to cramp up. I know I couldn't just stop, but as I kept running I was feeling the exhaustion catch up along with impatience of wondering how long it would take to outrun 5 grown men.
"This is taking too long"
I slow down my pace and choose a random tree that seemed to be tall enough. I grab onto one of the lower branches and tested it out to see whether it could hold my weight or not. Once I did that, I pulled myself on the sturdy branch and continued to climb as high as possible. This worked out well, cause I could see how much farther I needed to go and where the officers are.
I took a glance at the surrounding around and saw the officers wayyy far back going in the old direction I once went. I turn around to look for the city and shockingly enough it was less than a few miles away.
I lifted my head above towards the sky and the sun was no longer hanging. The last time I checked it was 6 pm meaning it will get dark soon. I swung myself down, branch by branch, and then continued to make a run for it.
" Almost there " I whisper
