Chapter 1

...

Okay. How do I start? Um...

My current name is Lusafana Misoris.

I used to be a boring girl that loved playing otome games to pass my time when I didn't need to study. I had pretty decent grades and was always left alone to do as I pleased, but I wasn't a bad kid. Just a little bit deviant and mildly rebellious when necessary. However something unsettling happened to me at school and I think I died because of it. Now I'm in one of those Otome games, Misery Sings, as the side character with a face. Lusafana Misoris. The first son of the Misoris household and "reliable" friend of the games four target characters.

In the game the only time you get to interact with him is either through the few secret actions of traveling through the school and you encounter him by chance. You don't have a choice but to not like him for some reason but there was always an option to make him your ally, but that's a rare ending that I just got that unlocked him as a new secret target. Even then it was hard to get close to him after.

Out of curiosity, I completed his ending and his rules for his ending are extremely vague. First I had to introduce myself to him without him being around any of the other characters. That doesn't mean he has to be alone though. Second you need to find a way to hold a conversation with him, if he takes interest he'll become hard to find after. At this point just ignore the other characters all together and he'll come to find you instead. Third, be sure to log in everyday and after a month, you start to see him on the screen just as often as the other characters you interact with. But his appearance is randomized and all he tells you is "I'm sure you can do better than this, but I guess it can't be helped." That's it. The others have more sweet talker lines while his are repetitive. Finally, you will hear a song from the game if it's been inactive for one hour with the game still running, you have ten minutes to find the song's source. This was also a random event. Once you find him in the dusty music room you have two scenarios. The first he is with someone. He will either say goodbye and leave the room or he stays but doesn't interact with you. The second he is alone and most of the time he either "stares at you curiously", stares out the window, or you can ask him to sing for you... if you're lucky.

The song is actually the game's jingle so when it goes off, it will play the first minute on a loop for ten minutes if you leave it active. A lot of the time people thought it was just a game alert because it would say "a lonely heart is calling for you." These are the conditions to meet if you want to get something out of him like info on your favorite characters. However he doesn't have an option to tell you about him at all but he still ends up as a target. If you stay dedicated to his character you can simply keep interacting with him but that's it. He doesn't give you the love interest lines, he doesn't have stats to show you, and he is hard to get close to. (Talk about a shit game character to add.)

Oddly enough I actually liked his character though, he wants cliché like the others but he still had this kind of cute charm to him like a cat. Creepy yet cute. So I chose to stick with the play for a while when I finally got to a chapter sticker to his character. A photo of him and my character sitting in the stairwell together with him sleeping on my shoulder. The one place I only visited once during his event. And this was only the first chapter. I didn't get the chance to start the second one. And I was looking forward to it.

With that said for his character, it's kind of triggering knowing that I've become said shit character. The last thing I remember is someone's stupid smug face smiling at me menacingly. Ooh!! Whoever that bastard was, I'm gonna smack him in his smug butt ugly face!!

Maid

"Y-young Master Misoris?"

"Geh!!! Uh.. Y-yes. Coming. Sorry."

Lusafana replies after pounding the pillow on his bed.

Right. So anyway, today is the day I, as Lusafana Misoris, turn fifteen, and it's the day I'm going to be attending a coming of age tea party to celebrate it at the high nobles manor in Lesterum. Where I will meet the other four "targets".

Mrs. Misoris

"Oh my. Hello darling. Did you sleep well?"

Mr. Misoris

"Good morning, Lusafana."

Little brother

"Hey there, big brother!"

"Good morning everyone. Sorry for my tardiness."

Mr. Misoris

"No worries. Simply be a bit more mindful next time."

"Yes, sir."

Mrs. Misoris

"Would you like to sit next to mother for the trip there?"

"Hmm. I think I'll sit with father this time."

Mr. Misoris

"Suit yourself."

The Misoris family heads to a wolf driven carriage and head to their destination.

Little brother

"Hey, big brother. Are you excited to be ready to go to the Alchema Academy!? That is so amazing!"

"Well, it just shows how amazing my tutors are that I even got accepted. You should try studying with them and come to school with me."

Little brother

"Oh wow! That's so true! Though I don't think I need it since I'm considered gifted."

"It would hurt to try and show off to them and get in early, don't you think?"

Little brother

"Oh my gosh! You're right! You're a genius, big brother!!"

That's right. Stay proud of me for being smart. That's all I need to keep this death flag from my little brother off my chest.

In the game one of the first years that was a target became a friend of my little brother when he transferred in early. When you complete that course, the little brother takes his frustration of losing his friend out on his big brother while their parents were out one day. It was an odd rumor in the game when you returned to the game after completion. In this bonus scene when you return. The big brother was missing while the little brother simply stayed at a fixed distance from you. This gave me the idea that the older brother was the least talented in the family. And I was right. I wasn't given magic lessons or even a magic teacher until I turned six and caste my first spell and contracted a few summoned beasts. While the little brother, who instantly showed his prowess at the age of three, was made to learn from father. I decided to learn more about everything else on my own.

Private tutors have taught me how to be a proper young nobleman. I have read every book in the house library, every scroll in the "Alchademy", and every journal I was allowed to get my hands on.

In the game, He never showed his affinity to any charms, stars, or alchemic ability but he showed that he had something, yet no one cared what. Keyword cared.

I decided to try and give a show of ability at least to the family if nothing else. Just because I don't show my strengths doesn't mean I have none.

The Misoris family arrive at the high Nobles manor.

Okay. Deep breath. This is the start of the next ten million flags to come for my bad end. Let's break them one shit end at a time.

Lusafana makes his way to the front entrance with his family and is sent to the back garden where a large party of children his age conversed. Near the center he sees the four target characters.

There they are surrounded by girls like flies to honey traps. Literally. Every single one of these girls just flat out ignored Lusafana despite him being so close to these four. Well. He was in the top five with those four and ended up in the student council as the vice president. No one understood why nor cared since they got to see their four kings in one setting. I feel like the idea of Lusafana being in the middle of them is to hold them together until the player chooses one of them to break them up that actually makes the player sound like the biggest bitch of them all! Jesus!

"* Sigh...*"

Lets go get a spot to sit. The first target flag to kill I think is friendship. Proper friendship. And according to the game, the one that will approach is Morris Lighthart. The popular choice of the four Kings. An angelic looking blonde with the most androgynous face on the planet that, for some reason, rarely ages. He's described as an antique doll come to life. A perfect gentlemanly personality with a soft plastic smile that makes the hearts of all that surround him swoon. Butterfly words with a voice of a harp that make the heart slow to a crawl. I swear, it's enough to make you gag with how much he has to sugarcoat everything he says to people to get them out of the way.

Lusafana walks to the other side of the building to find a cozy looking hammock in the center of a flower garden. He goes to sit in the hammock with his food and starts to eat.

When I was doing the secret trial for Lusafana, I somehow started talking to each of the boys and cleared with an A+ because I was asking about him instead of them. Morris had told me how he and Lusafana met here at this very party. After everyone got their affinity to a skill and made "friends", he ran off to this very spot to hide. He ends up on this double hammock next to Lusafana and for some reason he didn't notice him until he belched right next to him and scared him. He started laughing after saying so and didn't say much else.

I'll need to come back to this later to get that friend flag going and break the death flag after.

Lusafana returns to the crowd and sees the four stuck in a fight between the girls. The youngest one ended up with a girl tugging at either arm. He looked like he was going to cry.

Oh no! This one happens first!? Calm down. Think quick. This small bubble is Bieghliff Hawthorne. Strong name for a baby like personality and a strong feeling for passion. That sort of personality is what gets him into trouble with girls in the first place. He told me Lusafana saved him from a fight once and that fight was the reason why he was always uncomfortable with girls (till he met the player).

Lusafana rushes to get in between the girls and Bieghliff. Grabbing Bieghliff in his arms and holding him close and glaring at the girls.

Bieghliff told me he remembered what Lusafana told them word for word calmer than the koi in the pond. And they were

"Restrain yourselves. You all should have more dignity than this."

Girls

"W-what!? Who are you to butt in?"

"Are you going to explain what is happening to me then?"

Girls

"As if! That's none of your business, ugly!"

Lusafana releases Bieghliff and tilts his head still in a defensive stance.

"Oh? Then I can simply assume you were all attacking these boys like a pack of dire wolves? Because that is what I see before me. Unless you can show us all that you can behave like little ladies instead of a bunch of hungry dogs."

Girls

"What!?? What right do you have to insult us like that!!? Just who the hell are you!? Do you know who we are!?"

"Oh? So you're banning together now? I thought you all hated each other because you all want a piece of these four here. Literally. Honestly, I couldn't care any less than I do now for who any of you are with how you will treat another human being. Have any of you any delicacy? Your etiquette tutors would be ashamed of all of you for acting this way for a few boys. What would your mothers think if they saw this?"

The girls stiffen to a halt and fall silent.

"Looks like I have your attention now... madam Lielah."

Lielah

"W-what?"

"Will you tell me what you and madam Charlotte were arguing over that made you put Sire Bieghliff between you two and nearly breaking his arms."

Lielah

"What!? W-we would never put him in such danger!!"

"But you just did. And now look at him. Does this look like the face of someone that you did no wrong to?"

The girls gasp at the sight of Bieghliff holding his arms, pale in the face, and scorning in fear with tears ready to fall.

"Well? What do you ladies have to say for yourselves?"

The girls drop to the ground without a second thought in deep bows and panic.

Girls

"We-we are so, terribly sorry, sire Bieghliff!! We don't know what came over us! We are truly ashamed of ourselves!! Nothing we do will clear our sins and wicked acts towards you and their highnesses, but please we beg your forgiveness and promise to never approach you in such a way again! We are truly sorry, sire!"

Bieghliff stares at the girls for a second in surprise then to Lusafana who stood still glaring at the girls like a strict parent. Bieghliff's eyes start to shine with admiration and confidence as he nods his head to the girls.

Bieghliff

" it's okay. Will you all stay calm now? I really don't think it matters who has the best power or the greater status. I just hope we can all stand on the same level with everyone, okay?"

Girls

" YES, OF COURSE! Thank you so much!"

"Mph. All is well now then no?"

Bieghliff

"Yeah. Everything is well now, thank you!"

"Good."

Lielah

"Um pardon me but who are you actually?"

"..."

Lusafana gives an eerily beautiful bow to the ladies that they recognize and start to shiver in fear.

"I am Lusafana Misoris. First son of the Misoris household."

The girls panic and step back from him.

Girls

"A- a pleasure, your grace! Please forgive our rudeness earlier!!"

"All is well. Now get going and reflect on what you've done here."

Girls

"YES, YOUR GRACE! RIGHT AWAY!!"

the girls dash away into the manor and vanish in the crowd of adults. The four boys stare at Lusafana in awe and shock as he huffs with a snarl.

"Okay. That was settled quite nicely. Sire Bieghliff."

Bieghliff

"Y-yes sir!?"

Lusafana takes Bieghliff's shoulders and holds them tight for a second until his hands glow and a bright cloud puffs on his shoulders. Lusafana let him go and pats his shoulders.

"There. How is that?"

Bieghliff

"Uh they don't hurt anymore! Thank you so much!"

"That's good. Well then, I'm gonna get more food."

The boy stood stunned at Lusafana's laidback remark before he left.

Inside the manor, Lusafana sat with his family at a table. The Butler announces the affinity to skills trial. The children line up and form two gender based lines.

Alright. The line up to officially decide if I'm an outcast character like the game depicts. I can cast magic, use alchemy, and summon beasts. I don't know what kind of beasts my two are though but I guess I'll find out later. No one actually knows about the beasts except father, who told me to keep them secret until I entered school. Not sure why but I got the acknowledgement I needed.

The boys I already know. First Morris Lighthart. Affinity is holy light, obviously, he specializes in offensive spell casting. As expected of the son of a great wizard and the Lord of this land.

Bieghliff Harthorn next. Cute as always but still in the kid brother category. Affinity is earth's life and specialty is battle frontline. So he works for his status as the son of a knight.

Next is Kevin Leothore. A general hothead with a strong self righteousness. Also an airhead that's easy to manipulate. Affinity is fire dance and specialty is also battle, but with a twist of alchemy. He'd make a good blacksmith. High nobles son.

Finally, Jonathan Jones. The quiet type with a mysterious charm to him. A super softy for anything cute despite his harsh appearance. Affinity is wind whispers and specialty is summoning. Also high nobles son.

All the boys have gone through and my brother and I are next. My brother is like our mother, affinity is angels light, which is different from holy light. Specialty is copycat.

And me... time to see what my fate is. Please, god, I beg you to not let it be anything bad, or worse, nothing at all.

Lusafana touches the display plate and forces a calm composure. The light shines brighter than even Morris's holy light affinity.

GAH!!!! That's too bright!! What the heck!? Urgh!! I can't see

Lusafana rubs his eyes to see better and steps back a bit. The plate showed three colors. Black, red, and Blue. It was completely balanced with no fades, unlike others that had more than one affinity.

... OMG!!! I GOT THE JACK OF ALL!!! Yes!!! But dammit it's all dark affinities. Well, at least they're not serious offensive shades aside from the black one. This instantly tells me I'm perfect to take over the paladin position after father. Which means I need his approval for this. If I get it, and am allowed to take his place, then I have completely destroyed the failure flag. However this means the banishment flag will instantly take its place. If that happens, then I have to stay on my toes for the rest of my life until school ends.

Lusafana bows to the Butler who stared at him with an oddly proud smile. Confused Lusafana looks around the room and sees everyone in awe. He holds his composure and walks back to his family's tables. His father stands and bows to him. Lusafana bows back then suddenly gets a pat on the head. He looks up and sees his father with a soft look that he hadn't seen before as a smile tries to creep its way across his father's face. Lusafana's face becomes a bit flushed in embarrassment and they both take their seats again.

The affinity assessment has finished and everyone goes back to the party. Lusafana rushes out to his chosen spot in the garden on the hammock and sits.

YES!!!! SHAME HAS FOREVER LEFT ME! Hah! I am so tired, but now I can't stop smiling! Dammit! What the hell was with that face pops!? That wasn't fair! I wasn't ready for that "well done, son." face! Okay. Relax relax I am calm.

"Phew *blep*"

Lusafana covers his mouth quickly. A voice shouts and someone falls from next to him and startles him. It was Morris.

"..."

Really?? These all start at the same time.

Girls

"Where did he go!? I don't know? I thought I heard something over here."

Lusafana sees Morris panicking and looking around to find a place to hide. Lusafana jumps off and grabs Morris and throws him behind the Hammock and shushes him. The girls rush over and see Lusafana sitting on the Hammock by himself spacing out until he sees them.

Girls

"Eek! Um h-hello, your grace! Have uh.. Have you seen sir Morris?"

"No. I'm sure he's somewhere though. You aren't trying anything again, are you?"

Girls

"N-n-no!! Of course not!! We only wish to talk to him."

"Don't pester too much then, alright? You wouldn't want him to run off on you."

Which is exactly what happened.

Girls

"Geh!! Of course, sir. Then please excuse us. Oh! Um c-congratulations to you for your purity Affinity and paladin skills!"

"Oh... Thank you. I appreciate it. Congratulations to you all as well."

The girls blush, bow, and rush off around the corner.

"...They're gone."

Morris

"... phew. thank you. You don't mind if I join you, do you?"

"Not at all."

Morris takes his seat next to Lusafana and smiles brightly.

Morris

"Congratulations on your affinity and specialty. Your father must be super proud of you."

"Mph. Same to you, Master Morris."

Morris

"You can just call me Morris. Let's be friends."

" Alright."

Morris

" don't look so suspicious of me. It makes me feel anxious."

" well I did just help you out of a pickle, so I would be slightly skeptical of being used like a meat shield."

Morris

" whoa you really are an interesting person."

There it is. That dark angel smile you get when you start to understand his sadistic personality.

Morris

"We'll definitely get along just fine I feel. Lusafana was it?"

Morris holds out his hand for a handshake.

Morris

"I hope to meet you in the future. What do you say we start a new friendship?"

"If you mean a proper friendship I don't mind it, but you should probably fix that smile first before one of the girls comes back."

Morris's face had a childishly devious expression that instantly reshaped to embarrassment.

Morris

"Eheh. Sorry."

Lusafana takes his hand and they shake.

"I'll be in your care, Morris. You can just call me Lusafana."

Morris

"Yes! Of course!"

The day finally ended as Lusafana and his family return to their household. It was dark by the time they returned.

Father

"Lusafana."

"Yes, sir?"

Father

"Come with me a moment."

Uh oh. This usually means I did something he's curious about. Which isn't often a good thing. So what did I do wrong?

Lusafana follows his father to the study and his father shuts the door behind them.

Father

" one of the young ladies mothers said you did something to their girls. They weren't acting as they normally would and became more timid and less active than normal after you spoke to them."

Geh!! They had that big of a personality shift?

"Timid, sir?"

Father

"I'll get straight to the point. What made you hurt those girls?"

"I did no such thing, sir."

Father

"Then why did they seem afraid of you?"

"I stopped an argument between them with words alone, sir."

Father

"So what did you tell them?"

"They were acting like a pack of dire wolves fighting over a catch, sir."

Father

" over what??"

"The three high nobles and the young prince, sir. It was unsightly how they acted and so I chose to stop them."

Father

" did you know what started it?"

I can guess.

"...how do you think girls would react to the four top boys in their generation?"

Father

"That does not make it your business to interfere, does it?"

that doesn't sound like he's mad at me for this.

"... they took it upon themselves to involve the boys in question and nearly hurt one of them. I don't think their mothers would have forgiven them for hurting one of the high nobles simply because they wanted to be in a relationship with them."

Father started to hold back a creeping smile as his eyes grew more curious and intrigued.

Father

"What exactly did you tell them? Word for word."

Lusafana tells his father the story and father became so intrigued by his son's actions, that a Cheshire cat smirk finally made its way onto his face as his eyes stayed curious.

God. That face. He looks like he's about to crack any moment.

"Father, I think it's okay to laugh at this ridiculous story. But um how do I say this? Your face looks like you're plotting something wicked."

Father covers his own face in shame and clears his throat. He still couldn't help but hold back his laughter as he bows forward, disparately trying to hold it in. One of the maids knocks on the door and finally distracts him.

Maid

"Sire. Your guests have arrived."

Father

"Hm? Tch."

Did he just click his tongue!?

Father

"I'm on my way. Come, son."

"Yes, sir."

Awesome!!! I just made besties with dad! Though, I feel like I've seen that sort of reaction a lot.

Lusafana is sent to his room while the family tend to their own businesses.

Alright! The first flags have been flipped. I got to know two of the four targets so far well saved one and listened to the other complain. And next month, school starts and my first year with them begins. I have to pass EVERY course to make sure I got into the top five candidates recommended for student council.

"*yawn~* ."

Well for now I'll just sleep today. Good night, my poor Lusafana. I'll make sure your days become better.
