"To believe it or not is of course your own decision," The woman replied with a thin smile, "But I can confidently say that it is one of the most meaningful rings that I have right now. If you don't buy it for your boyfriend, you would definitely regret it later."
"..."
Xin smiled as he nodded his head and spoke, "I'll take it."
Wang GuiYing snapped his head towards the man and stared at him in disbelief.
In the first place itself, Wang GuiYing wasn't really the type to believe in legends and stuff. As for this ring being made from the bones of a celestial dragon... It was even harder to believe!
Wang GuiYing clicked his tongue and shook his head in disappointment as he thought, 'What an easily fooled man. A few sweet words and he is already hooked in.'
"That would be three gold coins!~" The woman beamed and Xin didn't even question it as he took out the coins and gave it over.
It wasn't even Wang GuiYing's money but when he saw the shiny gold coins being given away in return for a dull bone ring, he couldn't help but feel his heart ache.
Before they left, the woman also gave them a string as she spoke, "If the ring doesn't fit then wear it around your neck. It would still be effective."
Xin took the black string and nodded his head.
Wang GuiYing who was still in a daze was pulled away by Xin who spoke, "Let's go. What do you wanna do next?"
Wang GuiYing got some of his spirits back up as he heard this and he immediately looked around. This time, he wasn't going to point at a random stall and ask the man to buy him the most expensive item 'cause he was afraid the man would really do it.
"That!" Wang GuiYing pointed at their next destination.
"A fortune-teller?" Xin asked as he raised his eyebrows, "I thought you didn't believe in such stuff."
"I don't," Wang GuiYing confirmed as he pursed his lips into a thin line, "But..."
Suddenly, his thin smile started looking a bit sinister as he continued, "I like to mess around with them. The bullsh*t they spout is quite interesting to hear."
"..."
Wang GuiYing didn't wait for a response from Xin as he skipped towards the fortune-teller and took a seat.
"Welcome, young man." The fortune-teller was extremely polite. The upper half of her face was covered behind a veil while there was a warm smile plastered on the lower half of her face, "Is there something in particular that you are looking for?"
"Why don't you tell me?" Wang GuiYing rested his hand on the table and tilted his head as he playfully asked.
The smile on the woman's face faltered for a split second before she responded, "Ah, it seems that there is... To be more exact, it should be a person, right?"
Wang GuiYing nodded his head as he heard this and felt that the woman's guess was pretty accurate.
The woman regained her confidence. Her smile deepened and she continued, "That person... Is very loved by you."
This time, Wang GuiYing didn't nod his head nor did he bother denying it.
"You've been searching for too long," The woman put her hands on top of a crystal ball and spoke softly and slowly, "You're quite fortunate but your soul is still pitiable."
Wang GuiYing didn't understand what she was talking about nor did he try to understand it, but her words were indeed interesting and he wanted to listen to it a bit more.
"You search for that person far and wide. Neither letting heaven nor hell stop you. Your persistence is quite admirable. However, it's a pity that you have been blinded. You have been lied to."
"Who would dare lie to me?" Wang GuiYing crossed his legs and leaned back as he asked, looking to be amused.
"You."
"Eh?"
"You have lied to yourself. You have blinded yourself. You know the truth and yet you refuse to acknowledge it. You want to search far and wide for a person who is standing right beside you."
Wang GuiYing gulped as he heard this and although he was still skeptical about believing her words, he instinctually looked at Xin who stood beside him.
At that moment, their eyes met and Xin's mouth slightly opened as if he was about to say something, but in the end, he refrained from voicing it out.
Wang GuiYing felt his heart skip a beat and he immediately looked away.
The woman's smile deepened a bit more as she noticed this reaction.
"The person you are searching for... Your soulmate... He's standing right beside you at every step of the way. How can you not see him?"
"Huh?" Wang GuiYing gawked at her words.
It took him a solid minute to realize that the woman was spouting on about something else while he had been interpreting it as something else.
"Excuse me, the person I'm looking for is my best friend who ran away and disappeared from my life," Wang GuiYing spoke with a sneer.
"Eh?" The woman's smile faltered and she slightly tilted her head in confusion.
"Are you a fortune-teller or a cupid?" Wang GuiYing mocked.
She saw two people who looked like they were interested in each other but not ready to admit it so she immediately tried to get them together. She was sure it was going to work out as planned but unfortunately, Wang GuiYing's words had ruined her plan.
She cleared her throat and tried to maintain her composure as she spoke, "Of course, I know that. You are looking for your best friend. That best friend is precisely your soulmate!"
Wang GuiYing suddenly laughed as he asked, pointing at Xin, "If my best friend is my soulmate then are you saying this man is my lost best friend?"
Xin's muscles tensed up but Wang GuiYing failed to notice it.
"That's right!" The woman shamelessly exclaimed as she tried to save herself some face, "Wandering through the void, the soul was divided in two. The one standing beside you possesses the other half of your best friend's soul."
"..." For a minute straight, Wang GuiYing looked at the woman in all seriousness before he eventually broke out laughing.
The woman was a bit surprised to receive such a disrespectful reaction but she didn't say anything about it as she simply looked at the man with her eyes wide open.
"Miss, when you try to scam people, make sure that your words are actually believable. You are not talented at lying nor talented at guessing the situation. How can you make any money like this? It would be better if you just quit this work and look for something else to do. You are clearly not fit to be a scammer."
"..." The woman was rendered speechless, not being able to argue nor defend herself.
"Well then, good day!~" Wang GuiYing beamed as he stood up and pulled Xin away along with him without even bothering to pay the fortune teller.
Once the two had left, the fortune-teller looked at the crystal ball with a frown on her face and she couldn't help but mutter to herself, "But I wasn't lying... The heavens say the same. The one you are looking for is none other than the one standing beside you."
"Where are we going now?" Xin asked as he let the man hold his hand and pull him along.
"To dance!" Wang GuiYing enthusiastically exclaimed.
There was a huge stage located in the middle of the fair and at first, when they had entered the fair, they could hear faint music coming from this stage. At first, Wang GuiYing didn't pay too much attention to it but as they continued to get closer, the music also got a bit more louder and audible.
The music was quite catchy and had a lot of beats. After thinking about it for a bit, Wang GuiYing concluded that it was probably music coming from a stage where people could dance.
Xin, who had been stuck in this fourth stage for an entire year, naturally knew about the stage and hence, he didn't say anything and simply let Wang GuiYing take the lead.
As they approached the stage, the music got louder to the point where they couldn't even hear their own footsteps.
"Xinnie~ I hope you are good at dancing!~" Wang GuiYing teased the man and chuckled as he pulled him along and stepped on the stage without even waiting for a response from the man.
Xin sighed but it could be said that he wasn't exactly disappointed nor unhappy, on the contrary, there was a small smile on his face which almost made it seem as if he was enjoying this.
Wang GuiYing was not a great dancer but he wasn't bad at it either. However, although he was neither bad nor good at it, he was still quite confident and that confidence became a charm that drew attention towards him.
I wanna dance with them too!!
