Chapter 14: I Am Alive! Look!

When Fay sees the scene, he is bewildered.Because he sees everyone in his room, surrounding his previous body, crying with tears in their eyes, and now is staring at him who had just come out of the portal."uhh..."."Kyubey, what time is it now?"."It's 5 am in the morning".They should still be asleep... But still.Fay can guess what happened.Wain probably realised his previous body seems dead as he somehow wakes up and upon checking his heartbeat and every other sign of life one could think of, the body seems, or in fact, is dead....Wain got awoken in the middle of the night because he felt his hand cold. He half sleepily opened his eyes. He is hugging Fay.'Is Fay having a fever? He's so cold', he thought.Wain went to touch his forehead. It's cold... Too cold.Fay went to feel his neck. It's also cold. There's no heat.He tried to check his pulse.T-theres... No pulse...F-Fay...?Fay... Wake up.Fay...?Wain shakes Fay's body gently, calling out his name.Fay... Wake up. Wake up Fay. Hey…He shook his body harder.Fay.He shook him even more and harder.Fay. Don't do this to me. Why are you so cold. Please wake up. Fay. Don't joke around... its not funny.The realisation kicks in.Tears start to form from him eyes. He pressed his dog ears against Fay's chest to hear his heart beat.He can't hear it. He can't hear it at all.Fay... No... Please...Wain tears had already fallen to Fay's face.No... Why... Why.... Why are you...Wain hugged Fay's dead body, feeling how cold it is.Please don't leave me... Why are you like this... Why are you so cold... Please wake up...He is still in denial at the sudden 'death'.Ah-h...Wain can't hold on anymore and just cried and screamed.Wake up! Fay! Please! Please wake up!Wain shook his body over and over again.Please... Why are you like this... Why did you leave me so suddenly...why... why...Elvis who's a light sleeper was awoken by some noise in the next room.What's going on?He keeps hearing a faint noise. He pressed his ear to the wall and heard some screams and crying from Wain's room.He went to knock and check what was the matter.He waited for minutes after knocking.Just as he was about to leave, Wain opened the door."Wain whats-".Elvis saw Wain had an empty look on his face. He can see his eyes are swollen and red, from crying probably."Wain what is wr-"'Fay is gone...'.Elvis doesn't really hear the muttering."What?".'Fay is gone...'.Elvis is stunned at the moment. Gone? What did he mean gone?Wain stepped aside and let Elvis see the dead body. Fay seemingly peacefully sleeping.Elvis walked to Fay. He touched his forehead. His neck. And his chest. Trying to check his vitals.There's none. No sign of being alive.Elvis gasps and finally realizes what Wain meant. He felt his heart hurt. He wants to tear up but still keeps himself steady from crying. Fay is an important party member for him. And he is a friend of his as well.Why did he have to die so suddenly? What went wrong?"What happened...?". Elvis asked.'I don't know... I don't know... I don't know why he just... Feels so cold... I...'. Wain teared up again.Elvis can't help it and shed a tear but quickly wipe it away. Feeling Wain's own sorrow affects him greatly."Let's tell the others...".Wain didn't respond and he just sat next to Fay laying in bed, cold and lifeless. He caresses Fay cheeks. Tears still pooled in his eyes."Fay... Why did you leave me so suddenly like this..."Wain caresses Fay's hair and holds his cold hand. The fingers are small and seem fragile to his touch."I love you... I love you so much... Why... Why did you leave me like this so suddenly...".Wain just tears up again, still don't want to believe this."You know... I thought you were a girl at first. But then, when I bandaged you I noticed you weren't. I thought it was...."Wain keeps on rambling nonsense about all the times they were together. Not sure who he is talking to since Fay can't hear him.Soon, Amber, Lisa, and lastly Trevor who are all half sleepy went inside to see the commotion.One by one, everyone comes to a realisation.Amber who is in disbelief at this sudden loss even used Mana Detection spell to see Fay's mana signature.The body only contains very little traces of mana, but it amounts to nothing. It's truly dead. It can't be more dead than it currently is.Amber had tears pooling in her eyes.'How?'.Amber asked it aloud.She truly wants to know why. It's too sudden she can't process it. Not because of beasts, or bandits, but out of nowhere for no reason.Elvis repeated what Wain said, that is, he doesn't know either and his body just... Felt cold.Everyone mourned for Fay. They relied on him a lot. Who would have thought the person who they just happened to save close to half a year ago would become a close friend of theirs? And his power is so strong yet, why is he so lifeless now? Isn't he the strongest among everyone? How could this happen?Trevor didn't say a thing. He went to check Fay's vitals in disbelief. He didn't even stay in the room and just went out.His knees weakened and he had to sit down outside of the room, laying his back against the wall. He can't believe Fay is gone just like that, so suddenly, for no reasonHe remembers Fay who he likes to tease here and there. He likes seeing him blush and just give him some annoyed look and puff his cheeks. The hands that had once give him a little massage never left his memory.He likes him a lot, even more than friends and he has kept his feelings hidden for all this time. He remembers that Fay often asks him if he's fine after being beaten up by beasts. He knows it's just a normal gesture, but he felt his kindness and care, as friends.But why he's gone so suddenly?Trevor can't help but even shed tears, hiding his own face with his hands.Elvis starts to think about all the reasons that could lead to this.Is it from poisoning? Did Fay have a disease he never tells? Someone killed him? He affirms his heart he will get to the bottom of this.After minutes of mourning, suddenly a spatial crack forms in the air. Everyone stood, stunned, and watched it open up.And the figure casually walked out of the spatial crack....After analysing the situation in 5 seconds. Fay realised what was going on. Fay is not sure how to explain. But he felt guilty for making them think he was dead.'Umm... I am alive guys...'. Fay fidgeted his fingers while looking at his friends.Elvis took a look at Fay, then took another look at the dead body which also looks like Fay. He doesn't know what to think anymore.Trevor who heard some cracking noise stood and checked the commotion, only to see Fay, walked out of the portal.He unconsciously walked towards Fay. Fay turned around to see Trevor, who had so much tears in his eyes."Trevor?".Trevor went to hug him tight.Fay didn't expect Trevor to care this much..."I-I am alive, Trevor".Trevor stood back, and looked at Fay carefully. It really is Fay. It's a bit unusual, to see Trevor so serious like this. Fay felt worse now that he realised, they really think he's dead and it's such a serious matter.Wain had stood up from the bed and walked to Fay."Wain...".Fay can't help but scratch his cheek and made a sheepish smile."Umm... Sorry to make you worry about me. I am fine you see...".Wain just went to hug Fay tight.Everyone is silent for a long time."I am alive, I am alive!!". Fay raised his voice a little bit trying to make the point across."Can you tell me what's going on...?".Fay looked at Wain. It's his first time seeing this expression.Wain is angry.Wain felt mad for making him so worried for nothing. What did he cry for? It's so embarrassing and heartbreaking for him.And he just nonchalantly walked out of a portal from who knows where and just said oh I am alive as if they didn't mourn him already.'Oh uhh... Wain... I told you my soul is in this right?'.Fay conjured his soul gem.Wain looks at it, and look at Fay wondering what his point is.'So uhh... I just changed bodies. This body is better than the previous one you see'.Wain wants to faint. What excuse for an explanation is this? He just stared at Fay, unsatisfied. Did he hear him right?'Mmm.... Okay hold this'.Fay just shoves the Soul Gem onto Wain hands.Fay isolates his consciousness into his soul gem and Fay's new body falls. Wain hurriedly catches it. The body loses its life signs.Fay connects to the old body. Suddenly Fay's dead body on the bed wakes up and sit up."Guys! I am alive alright, see?". Fay went to move his hands around to show them he is alive and well.Elvis opened his mouth wide open. And the others turned their head to see the dead Fay body just now had sit up straight and flay his arms around to show he's completely alive.What sorcery is this?Elvis is too tired. Maybe he's just dreaming all of this nonsense.'I will go back to my room. Let's talk later'.Lisa and Amber agreed with Elvis in their heart and mind and went back to their room. And Trevor is still in a state of trance. He eventually went out last to leave Wain and him behind.Wain is still holding the soul gem and another Fay's body.Fay transferred his consciousness to the body wain is holding.Fay just stood and looked at Wain who still had a mad look on his face."Wain, I am sorry!".Fay tried to use his round blue eyes to make Wain less mad.Wain gave back the soul gem and just walked away from him and just went to sleep. Fay stood there and knows Wain is mad at him. Wain pulled the blanket to cover his face and turned sideways away from the empty body next to him.Fay walked closer and saw his own previous body. He has to admit it truly looks and feels like he's dead.He didn't expect Wain to notice and wake up in the middle of the night. And even Kyubey, who had analysed Wain sleeping pattern didn't expect the very low chance of Wain waking up during the time of operation would happen.'Sorry Fay I didn't expect he would wake up either'.Fay can't blame Kyubey since he agreed to do this at this time.'Kyubey let's say if my current body is completely destroyed, and my soul gem is not, I can still live?'."Yes". Kyubey gave a short reply.Fay decides to keep it as a 'backup' body. Fay carried it easily with his dragon muscles and placed it into the closet. There's still quite a lot of space left. It looks like a dead body though...Fay went to snuggle into the blanket and hug wain from behind."Wain. I am sorry, okay? I thought you wouldn't wake up so I just left my body there...".Wain didn't respond.'Sorry...'.Fay went to slide his hands into Wain shirts.He didn't respond.He caresses his back, trying to heat him up. He is still silent.'I am sorry Wain...'.Fay went to bury his head into the blanket and kissed Wain's back.Fay went to slide his hand into his pants. Fay can feel it's already proud. Fay snickered a bit and played a little. And stop for a few minutes. And then played a little more. And then stop for some time again. Played a little some more.Wain can't do this anymore and he turned around. He still looks at Fay with angry eyes.They had some make-up hot time as Fay knew Wain can't hold it in each time....They slept until the high noon rises."Sorry".Fay snuggled into his chest."I love you…". Fay went to kiss him.Wain replied the kiss back."I love you too".Fay blushed hearing it. It's already in the afternoon. Everyone sleeps in this time after the horrifying event.Fay went to bury his face into Wain's armpit.Wain still wags his tail because he feels glad that Fay is alive, although he's still very mad at him for making him unnecessarily cry so much.'You were so rough… It still feels sore you know'. Fay pouted.Wain went to grab Fay's peaches and fondle them.'H-hey…'. Fay face is red."Don't worry me again, okay?". Wain tenderly looks at his lover. He never had thought, he would feel so much pain from losing him. He cared so much for him. It's his first time being attached this deeply to someone. Maybe, this is what they call 'love'.'Okay…'. Fay accepts it is his fault. He just secretly uses magic to repair his back and the sores are all gone now.'Umm… Should I tell the others about, uhh… My soul thingy…?'.He thought for a moment. Wain remembered something seemingly close to Fay's situation and after finding out some information on the library about soul magic, he found out there is a death mage who made himself immortal by forcefully hopping into bodies, killing others in the process. He is then hunted down and managed to get killed.'It's up to you… But Fay…'."Is your body, the real you? You aren't some hundreds of years old man- or woman, right?". Now that he thinks about it Fay is too feminine for a guy maybe his soul is that of a woman.'I am me! I am not an old man! I am just 17'."I read about this mage that can hop into bodies and consume their soul to remain immortal". Wain is only half joking.'I am not evil…'. Fay pouted again. He can't believe Wain had such a thought about him.But Fay thought about the 'immortal' part."Kyubey, how long is my lifespan?".'As long as you never run out of magic you will never die. The same goes for other magical girls.'Technically the true dragon ancestors and The Oracle has lived ten of thousands of years and there are probably other immortal beings as well."Wain… How long is your race's lifespan?".'Hmm? It's about 120 or something if I am not mistaken. Why?'. Wain wonders the question. But then he realised maybe Fay is worried that because he is human, he should have a shorter lifespan. Wait… But Fay can jump bodies."Uhh… I am sort of immortal…".Wain wants to faint. He just looked at Fay in disbelief. Is he really hundreds of years old?"You really are hundreds… No… Thousands of years old?". Wain looked at Fay with a serious look.'No! I am really truly 17! My soul age is 17! I am 17!!!'. Fay pouted his cheeks again. Why does Wain insist he's thousands of years old?Wain just let out a sigh of relief."Even if you are, I will still love you alright…". Wain went to kiss Fay's lips. He had already prepared his mindset the moment Fay told him about how his soul in the little thing called Soul Gem.Technically Akasha he had once dated is 90 years old or something so dating someone older is not a problem. Although 90 years and thousands are quite a bit different.Fay just blushed. He takes Wain's word as a proof of commitment.But he's afraid of having to see Wain die just because he could outlive him. It's such a far thing in the future but the idea scares him."Kyubey… Can you… Turn him into a magic user like me too?".'I can'. Kyubey can indeed turn ANYONE into a magical boy/girl. But in the previous world, his main goal is to delay entropy aka heat death of the universe and thus the energy created must exceed energy consumed and this considers the emotional fluctuations of the user and their karmic potential.If he turns everyone into a magical user without taking into account their net energy production, it would instead shorten the lifespan of the whole universe.But then Kyubey thinks again… he doesn't care about this universe's lifespan. So, he really has no reason to refuse Fay's request. And yet he has no reason to freely agree either because again, he is never obligated to Fay and Fay is contracted to that being called a goddess and not him.He considers helping but won't make it free and rather make it a 'trade'.'But I won't turn him into one for free'.Fay nodded."What do you need?".'I want to know the complete dragon tongue magic. You will need to fight and let true dragons use their magic so I can record and analyse them'.Fay is silent. To fight a true dragon… And from Kyubey's statement, he emphasized 'complete'.This is a very hard request. Even true dragons have their own elemental types and thus possibly vast amounts of magic languages. Just how many true dragons of different elements would he need to hunt down across the entire world of Elysia?"I see…".Kyubey simply wants to satisfy his curiosity. He truly doesn't care about this particular universe he resides in as much. But he doesn't think he should just turn everyone on this planet into a magical user.Aside from his limited resources, he really only has enough resources left to make 3 more magical girls in his spatial space. There are only 4 magical users including Fay in the entire human kingdom after all this time.He would need to build a lot of devices from scratch to extract various raw ingredients and energies and so many things. He estimates, he would need a few years to be able to create a magical girl sustainably.He stops his thoughts for a moment. Because it had been a habit to think about 'efficiency'. And that efficiency is towards a certain goal of delaying the heat death of the universe.Kyubey realised, since he doesn't have an actual purpose in this universe, he doesn't need to create any magical girls anymore except to satisfy his curiosity.And he thinks he contracted enough magical girls already. Now he just wants to observe if the law of the cycle applies to this world (waiting for the death of a magic user).While he is thinking about this, suddenly a foreign energy enters his mind.[Continue your work, and I will send you back to your home universe]An ethereal voice sounded on all of Kyubeys hiveminds.'You are that being from before'. Kyubey remembered this voice.Kyubey is quite curious and really wants to observe and 'measure' this being. It's very unfathomable to his logical thinking.Kyubey thought for a moment. He had gained a lot from this world. Its various mana-based technologies and DNAs of its organism are a treasure.And the mysterious energy form called mana is a form of energy that is easily convertible to every energy and matter type is worth researching. Now that this being has offered him this, he decides to continue his research and work so it can benefit his own universe once he returns.'I accept your offer'.Kyubey stared blankly at the air, as plans started to form in his heads.…The goddess sat on Her throne. God of Blacksmithing, Uorr spoke his doubt.Shadaldir, the Goddess of Fate and the main leader of the Gods of Elysia spoke with her ethereal finger on her chin;"I have my plans".Shadaldir had used most of Her power to interfere with the fate of the world by forcefully breaking into a universe in another plane of existence. She did this to avoid complete destruction of Elysia and complete annihilation of the Gods that she had foresaw from the threads of fate that is cut short.She can't interfere directly with the world too much – and so she had to use a loophole by using a being from a universe from an entirely different plane of existence.She had rolled her dice, and She and the other Gods can only try their best to interfere as much as they can as allowed by the Will of the World to ensure the fate that she had foreseen won't happen.The Evil God Emenar, whose domains and laws held are of that misfortune, despair and curses, alongside his followers of evil gods are their and the whole world's enemy.He and the Others will be completely released after hundreds of thousands of years being sealed. The Doomsday, the End of The World, Armageddon, and whatever it's called will come within 10 years at most.This is the largest threat the whole world of Elysia will ever face. In history the evil gods had always managed to weaken the seal and send their demon kins and their chosen champion, the Demon Lord.The Gods had chosen their own champions, blessing them with their powers and raising them as a 'Hero' in return and strengthen the seal back up each time they defeated the Demon Lord and its armies.The threat is too great this time. The usual Hero is not enough. Because the evil gods will have their True Descend this time.Atnir, the Goddess of Peace and Tranquillity spoke,"I propose we still choose a Hero like we did before.
