Chapter 48

After leaving Kingpin, I realized that it was already time for lunch. Arriving at yet another café, I ordered a few dishes and began to eat my lunch. This was the first time in my memory that I didn't know what to do. So I decided to head to my assigned lab after lunch to come up with some new useful devices and incorporate them into the suit.

Except Daisy sensed something and decided to call me.

- Hello Peter, where are you? - came Daisy's voice as soon as I picked up the phone.

- Hi, Daisy. I thought you'd forgotten all about me. I hadn't heard from you at all. I only see you at school once in a while. - I told her my grievances.

- Huh, so that you once again paralyzed me to be sure to groping? - she said indignantly.

- Hey, I already said you shouldn't have teased me. It was a momentary weakness in front of beautiful breasts, nothing more. If I wanted to do something to you, I'd just sneak into your apartment and you wouldn't be able to do anything to me!

- Huh. Okay, let's leave it at that. There's a mission for us. Come to the lab. You're skipping class now anyway.

- Hey. [Laughs] I'm not skipping class! I own OzCorp, so I've been dealing with paperwork.

- I don't care. I'll meet you in the lab. - Daisy disconnected the call.

Putting the phone away, I began to wonder what our mission was going to be. I couldn't wait to get started, because it would probably be something spy-inspired or involving a fight. So I quickly finished my lunch and hurried to meet her....

Upon arriving at the lab, I immediately found the girl. This time she was wearing a black Kevlar uniform, as well as metal gloves. Apparently it's her special outfit for serious missions.

- Hey, Daisy, you look great. - I raised my voice to make her aware of my presence.

- Long time no see, Peter. Over there on the table are the details of our mission. - She pointed to the table, but I was in no hurry to go to it. Instead, I walked closer to her and began to examine her slender figure. Which in this suit was clearly visible. It was like the suit was designed to emphasize all her assets.

- You know, Daisy, as I look at your suit, I realize it's not just for anybody. You have special powers, don't you?

- Huh, I thought you'd never ask. Yes, I do have powers. You think they'd put just anyone on your team?

- Hmm, what are they? Judging by your metal gloves, they have some kind of physical offensive properties.

- You're right. My ability is that I can generate and manipulate a constant oscillation of vibration, with which I can produce shockwaves and vibrations.

- Hmm, interesting. What exactly is the source of your powers? X-gene or genetic experimentation? Sorry to pry into your personal life, I'm just curious. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.

- Nothing. To tell you the truth, I'm not from Earth. My race is called "non-humans", and we live on the moon, or rather on the back side of it. We don't have a very large population, so there's only one city, and it's called Attilan.

- At the heart of non-human powers is terrigenesis, the process by which non-human powers are activated. But even without the effects of Terrigen Mist, the nonhumans are stronger than normal humans.

- What is Terrigen's Fog? - I was really interested in it.

- Hmm... "Terrigen Mist" is an incredibly dangerous gaseous substance formed by terrigen crystals. When a non-human is exposed to the mist, it produces a stony cocoon and goes through the process of Terrigenesis, thus developing superhuman abilities. By the way, both normal humans and mutants can use it. But for them, it is incredibly dangerous. Even our race must strictly observe the dosage. And on people it acts on an order of magnitude stronger, however, if a person is lucky, he will awaken his special abilities. As for mutants, the "Terrigen Mist" is even more dangerous for them. Since it incredibly amplifies abilities, a mutant can go insane and become a slave to his powers, driven only by the lust for destruction.

- Hmm, so where can these crystals be found?

- In the Soothsayer, an item constructed by the Kree race thousands of years ago as a holding facility for Terrigen crystals. As it turns out some of the Soothsayers were left on Earth millennia ago, having been buried before World War II, one of them was stripped by HYDRA, who named it the Obelisk. In 1945, the Obelisk was confiscated by the Strategic Scientific Reserve, where it became the first 0-8-4. We found this out when the Soothsayers came back into the spotlight a couple years ago, when the Obelisk became embroiled in a conflict between HYDROA and S.H.I.E.L.D. As a result, the Soothsayer was activated, resulting in my powers.

- What? Didn't you get your powers on Attilan?

- No. Attilan has incredibly strict laws. Only those with pure bloodlines can claim powers, the rest are banished to Earth. Because like I said, the Terrigen Mists are dangerous. And the purer your bloodline, the easier it is to survive its effects. But I was lucky enough to be banished to Earth, but I got my powers. And I am not subject to Attilan's law. Why do you even ask?! Peter, don't even go near the Soothsayer unless you want to go crazy.

- Come on, do I look like an idiot? - I was indignant, though in my mind I was already thinking about how to do it. After all, the chance to awaken his x-gene is not every day. Having said that, I went to the table and took the folder, which contained the details of our mission.

It took me five minutes to fully review the documents. As it turned out, Dr. Jonathan Onn was a scientist working for Kingpin who was tasked with replicating Cloak's abilities. Late one night, he managed to create an interdimensional portal. However, because there wasn't enough energy to keep the portal stable, it began to flicker and destabilize. Afraid of losing his unique opportunity, Jonathan walked through the portal. He woke up in another space, which he mistook for the dark dimension of the Cloak. Jonathan soon realized that the portal malfunction had caused him to enter another dimension that consisted of an infinite number of portals. He found the portal that had thrown him into this dimension and was able to escape back to Earth.

Back in his lab, Jonathan underwent a radical change. The portals from the other dimension became black spots that covered his entire body. He was frightened by this and turned to the government, and they briefly turned him over to S.H.I.E.L.D. to help him.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to find out the peculiarities of his powers, which allowed him to open portals to any place, and taught Jonathan how to use them. However, the man escaped from their base with several dangerous weapons instead of gratitude. And that's where we're being sent.
