Gut feeling

I sigh and shake my head at the horrendous thoughts that surround Monique and me sharing such news. “Fuck it,” I mutter and take up my phone, going straight to Jack's contacts.

Me: Anything?

My heart paces uncomfortably, and I can't help but think that something is wrong. I don't want to, but the memory of how Isabelle came out of nowhere and almost killed my young family still haunts me.

Jack: Let's talk about this over a call.

My eyebrows furrow, and I lean off the counter. Jack, calling me?

Before I can question any further, my phone lights up, identifying an incoming call, and I quickly answer. “Where's the last place she was known to be at?” He asks in a strange, serious tone. “I don't know,” I say, walking off and heading upstairs. “Let me ask the helper; she was with Monique before she left,” he hums, and I can hear the harsh typing of keys on his end of the call.
