Black Gate 2

Everyone was in position. The Archery Division Unit at the back to kill or injure monsters that fall from the sky while supporting the army. Then the First Division Army and the Second Division Army. The First Division Army will attack first then the Second Division Army will take up were they stopped once tired.

Carolina was part of the First Division Army so she was in the front of the battle that would occur. She held her Tier one soul weapon that was a whip. A very powerful weapon amongst it's kind ahead by Five tiers and below One tier. It alone could kill a Titan.

There were five power ranks of these creatures. The lowest Wraith then a Demon, a Devil, a Terror, a Titan, aTyrant and lastly the most powerful a Soverign.

And four levels in each.

So there were Tier weapons. From Tier five to Tier zero. Hers was a Tier one and equally very powerful Class. Soul weapons. Very rare too. Gifted by her father, The Duke of Croyso.

There were many sad and happy memories together. Athena, her soul weapon thrummed in approval. Soul weapons are connected with the souls of the owners. If it accepts one as the owner they share their power, emotions and feelings.

Before she could immerse herself in her thoughts. She heard murmurings all around her. And she knew he had arrived.

"It's the Devil...he came."

"...Thank the gods....we won't die after all..."

"... I will still see my daughter and wife.."

Sniffing sound followed after.

The Hunters parted sideways allowing him to walk through. A man wearing a black fox mask with intricate red designs and a simple expensive black tunic and trousers a direct contrast to the heavy armor the Hunters wore all around them. She didn't wear armor because of the role she had to play. She had to be as light as possible. Apart from her other members of the Devil Squad didn't put on armor except the spiked gauntlets Cain wore sometimes when he didn't use his ability. It was always silk simple and black. Like a uniform. Showing confidence and relaxation even on the battle field.

The mask was evoking terrifying fear into the hearts of many Hunters and respect. The intimidating aura was suffocating even though it was suppressed. She was a testimony to that. When She was twelve and her family were forming alliance with the Duke of Russex. Because of her childish glee for exploration she snuck away from her father into the Duchy's inner Castle. Intrigued by the ancestry designs. She ran further until she met an overwhelming bloodlust. It choked her as she almost died if not for Theo who was struggling to repress the Duke's aura noticed her weak life force as she was unconscious and close to death.

And the Duke was only thirteen then.

He wore silk black gloves and every step he took commanded everyone's attention.

Every single one of it. His long white hair fell on his shoulders tied in a pony tail.

Carolina's sharp eyes caught the crimson ones hidden in the mask. His ethereal beauty was both alluring and harrowing.

" Miss Palmer apart from our team who else is incharge of the Divisions?"

Goosebumps filled her entire skin. She froze and her body failed to react no matter how her hands itched to grip the whip on the waist strap of her trousers.

She felt uneasy. Her head then turned harshly to her side to see a terrifying joker mask staring at her eeriely, when she regained control again.

Her eyes softened a bit when she recognized those mirror white eyes reflecting back her face and surroundings around her. The raven black hair of the man fluttered against the soft breeze. It was a bit disappointing that his handsome face was hidden by the mask. Making him unreadable not that it was easy even without it on. His face was a mask itself.

"Theodore..."

"Yes, Miss Palmer."

" Dont jump on me again. I might slash at you. If you do so."

His emotionless eyes were passively staring back at her, as calm as a lake. She couldn't read him.

"Can you be able to do that, Miss Palmer."

Carolina chuckled lightly.

"I might as well try. Before you kill me."

His feet shuffled on the ground it made her notice his clothes. A black tunic with emblem of Orion, the hunter with constellation of a flaming sword on his left side of his chest. The insignia of the Dukedom of Russex in the Northern Kingdom. The first two buttons of his tunic was opened revealing muscled chest that disappeared into the fabric. His black trousers hugged his lean muscled frame that made it look so appealing. A black silk gloves with an intricate network of silver patterns that seemed to be glowing in the dark.

"We don't kill family. Except those who try to betray."

Try to? Does he mean that no one could betray them. Cause they had been dead even if they had try. And family? She was a Palmer, Daughter of the Duke of Croyso. She couldn't be family unless she was married into the Reigns family. Her eyes widened. She shook her head internally he couldn't mean....No he probably meant the sworn loyalty of Croyso to Russex.

She looked forward her eyes gazing above the Gate.

"Mr Jack and Mr Fred are incharge of the Divisions Welfare Unit team and part of the thirty hunters from the Archery Unit. We were short of archers since Cain and erehmn...You toke care of it. But the government officers were insistent. They persuaded the King to do their bidding. The King probably didn't want to be in bad terms with the Hunters government established by the Emperor then allowed them. So we have to cope with them for now."

Carolina found it surprising that both the Russex duchy and the government eagerly wanted to actively participate in their own accord. But they needed every help they could get not that she was complaining.

Theodore's sharp gaze spotted the men from the government that were on green uniform had an insignia of a Phoenix inscribed at the back of their armour and a golden emblem on their breastplate signifying their high ranks.

He let out a soft lazy sigh.

" I see. The government are interfering."

Carolina's brow arched up. Interfering? Hmm interesting. So it was as she thought the two important factions in the empire were here for a reason. It was suspicious that the two rivals would coexist in a battlefield without a selfish agenda. Damn she was doing it again. Talking about the Devil Squad as if she wasn't among them.

" What exactly are they interfering with?"

Her eyes met his.

" Reigns family business affairs. I will be taking my leave now. The Gates energy is becoming unstable. It should be open any moment from now. Goodbye, Miss Palmer."

She frowned watching him stalk away from her like a cat.

He set boundaries when he said that even though she was part of the squad. Or more honestly she did herself. She always settled an invisible boundary between her companions. She had no tangible reason of doing so. She just set walls. Not participating in their activities not being there for them as they had, not that they complained. She was afraid of letting her guard down. Maybe because she was afraid of losing them as she did her sister. That's why they didn't include her anymore. Soon enough she might leave because they didn't trust her to let her stay or her presence won't be felt at all. It was ironic that she was thinking of sneaking away after this immediately. Of course they won't be comfortable around her!

She didn't want that. She wanted to belong. At least try to. So there was only one way of restoring things the way it should be. The hard way....

Facing her fears.

She sighed her mood melancholic.

Then the loudest banshee cry she had ever heard in her entire life violently broke her out over her reverie.

Blood gushed out from her ears as she writhe holding her head. Her ear drums felt like exploding. She gathered gravity's energy around her ears pushing the sounds down, away from her ears.

She gathered her thoughts feeling disoriented from the pain and shock of the attack. Her footing was unsteady. She looked around, fresh blood stained the hunters ears but it no longer affected them. There was a blood barrier above them.

It was Allen.

Carolina gritted her teeth in embarrassment. She possessed gravity manipulation it was only right she reversed the cry's attack with gravity back to the banshee using mirror effects but she was unguard and couldn't adapt faster.

Her light blue eyes turned into dangerous slits in annoyance. Because of her mistake they would have lost lives of hunters who wanted to see their families.

But for a cry like that to affect them was it A Tyrant?

Her blood ran cold at the thought.

The Gate slowly creaked open placing fear in her heart. The sound of the Gate still entered her ears what the hell?

The banshee cry was unending.

Instilling terror. What abominable creature could make such noise like that?!

Her eyes moved towards the Gate.

Time stopped for a moment.

And as if answering her question.

A Corpse's Massive hand came out from the Gate.
