"You drive like the devil hot on your heels," Pa burst out laughing as the Mercedes practically zapped down the paved roads to the barn.
"I was driving too slow last time," I gave him a nervous grin before I focused my attention back on driving. Even though my heart felt like it was close to getting a heart attack, I had to admit there was something freeing about driving like how I used to.
I loved Benedito with everything in me, but sometimes being in a car with him made me remember the accident. Maybe because it was the way he looked at me when we neared a car, as if I was about to have another panic attack that it made me tense to even try. Montana was a one shot wonder and I figured that was because I was miles away from the scene of the accident.
Being in a car with Pa bought back a level of normalcy I deeply craved and his comments just made me feel so much better.
