Chapter 2 Dad’s reason.

"Jess! Stand up! You're going to be late," I hear and this makes me grab pillow to block the noise from my ear but it doesn't take long before the pillow is snapped away from my face.

When I slowly open my eyes, it comes in contact with my angry nanny's face.

"Can't I sleep in peace nanny? This is just 7:00am," I state pointing at the digital clock by my bedside.

"And? Aren't you meant to be preparing to go somewhere by this time?" She asked and I frown wondering what she was talking about.

'Oh shit! My new school!' It dawns on me and this makes me hastily get up as I hurry to the bathroom.

But wait, lets get this straight. I am not in a haste because I am excited or something of that sort. It was because of my dad.

Seeing his angry side is not something I would love to start my day with.

When I was done with bathing, I walked to my wardrobe and picked my best dress there, a cloth that Beli had gotten for me during one of her shopping.

It was a black neckline midi-dress having a little slit. The dress alone was beautiful so you can imagine how beautiful it would have been on me.

It's not bragging, I am pretty.

I go on with my preparation styling my wavy hair into two, leaving some to fall at my side.

You know the saying, first impression matters, I don't joke with it.

After styling my hair properly, I wear loafers. I stand in front of my mirror deliberating on whether to put a little make up or not. Well, the idea was totally scrapped when I heard my alarm buzzing.

The time was already 8:00am and knowing that that's the time we have breakfast in my house, I had to make sure I was downstairs before my dad.

Yep, you guessed right. It was a rule for me.

I hurriedly leave my room and go to the dining but I guess I should have saved my strength since he was already there.

"Good morning Dad." I greeted sitting at right-hand seat close to him then he dropped the newspapers in his hand and looked in my direction.

"Hope you're prepared for the academic assessments that you would be given?" He asked and I nodded.

"I am totally prepared, Dad." I say then I focus my meal on the table but I hadn't even taken a bite of my food before his voice echoed in my ear.

"Jessica, you know the right thing to do. These periods are the most crucial in your life. You have a University to pursue and so many exams or activities ahead. Your SAT exam is coming up at fall too. No form of distraction or trouble is allowed," He stated and I smiled nodding at him.

I understood what he meant. He was reminding of the five rules that had been guiding me all through my life.

No boyfriend, No parties, Avoid trouble, No unauthorized outing and study longer than you sleep but he didn't need to.

I have obeyed them all my life, so it had already become my lifestyle.

"Don't worry. I have never forgotten it for a sec. If you brought this up because of my cyberbullying or bullying case, as I already told you it was self-defense and I am remorseful for it," I said but he just sighs and returns his attention to his newspaper.

What an attitude.

"Jessica," Nanny called breaking my train of thought.

"Yes."

"Can you come and help over here?" She asked as her sweet voice vibrated around the room.

"Of course nanny," I said as I stood up and went to meet her in the kitchen.

Nanny Stella has been with me all my life and she is part of me. Whenever the thought that one day she might leave crosses my mind, I usually wish that that day never comes and that she never leaves us. And even though that is a selfish request, I never stop wishing for it because without her I don't think I can breathe.

She's the only one I can tell somethings and free open to.

~~

After having breakfast. I put some important things in my bag and entered the car. I decided to call Belinda since I was doing nothing apart from looking at the time and asking my dad how close we were to JK.

J: Are you already in school?

B: Yes and you?

J: I am on my way and I suddenly feel excited. I think it's just about me anticipating how being in the school will turn out for me.

The feeling is sweet and frustrating though.

I feel like just flying there; now I wish I could turn into a bird so that I could fly over there and get these damn mixed emotions out of my soul.

B: That's the normal thing. Don't think about it too much. Everything is going to be alright. You'd meet lovely people and maybe even someone that can would spark up your emotions.

J: Silly girl, that's not going to happen.

B: Bye, have fun. I'm hanging up.

....

As we drew nearer to Julius & Kenny Highschool, I kept Imagining what it will look like.

My excitement and worry were reaching their peak.

I was excited to see the school, the people there and how my interaction there would go.

"Dad, how long will it take for us to get there?" I asked him.

"We should have gotten there but because of traffic, we haven't,"

"Hmmm, okay." I reply.

I start thinking of different ways in which this new chapter of my life might turn out.
