Heroes to Hunted

"There are no heroes in war, only monsters." This was an outlook that Sato Katsuro, a man in service to the military, formed after being broken by two years of battle. It was an outlook he took even to his grave, but what about beyond it? Summoned into a new land of fantasy--Sato's tasked with being the very thing he'd given up on becoming. He'd have to fight a new war. A war between mankind and an oppressive enemy regime run by a cohort of demons. But, as Sato learned in his past, war wasn't always what it seemed. In war, truths were lies, friends were enemies, and the so-called heroes...they were often the villains. Additional Tags: Dark, realistic fantasy

A Misunderstanding, Part Two

Many thoughts rolled around within my mind, but most concerning was Agawa's condition. Her complexion was ragged with exhaustion, and her body showcased various bruises.

"Agawa? Are you hurt?" I asked, but I soon returned my eyes to the woman I had pinned. If she tried anything, I'd end her then and there.

"No! What're you doing?!" she dropped her knife and pointed. "Get off Mizuno!"

Shockingly, Agawa was armed...and even defended a vampire; she must've been terrified of disobedience.

'We just can't catch a break…' I sighed.

Soon after, the others woke up from the commotion. I'd seen Kamida, Takagi, and a few new faces, all sporting rags and a collar. Each shared Agawa's expression, ones of confused panic.

"What's going on?!" I pulled the sword closer to the woman's throat. The woman Agawa called "Mizuno."

"I'll ask you the same thing!" Agawa exclaimed, then approached me cautiously.
