Nephew? His nephew? Jake was this man's... Alex's nephew? She mused, and then the realization of what that meant dawned on her like a crashing wave, knocking the breath from her lungs. Her eyes widened as she stared at him, the shock evident on her face. “Your nephew? You’re Alex Sterling, Jake's uncle?” she asked, unable to believe it herself. Alex nodded, his expression unchanged. “Yes. I'm his uncle,” Alex confirmed, and Emma shook her head.

We Should Forgive Him

Claire pressed her lips together, fingers curling tightly around the phone. She wanted to speak, to explain, but the weight of Alex's disappointment made her chest ache.

How was she supposed to tell him what she was thinking in her mind when obviously from what Alex said, he wasn't in ready to forgive Jake or Margaret?

Could she tell him her thoughts? She mused and the took a deep breath. She needed to voice it out. She told herself as she looked directly into Alex's piercing eyes.

Finally, she forced the words out.

"Actually..." she whispered, "I spoke to Jake, at the police station today...."

Alex's eyes narrowed, his eyes darkening as he looked at her, his face a mix of disbelief and something sharper—betrayal. "You what?"
