Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

She's In Love

My mother carried me away as soon as the two royal princesses left the hall.

I looked at her face and noticed that tears were falling unceremoniously. To say the truth, I didn't know who she was but there seemed to be an unbreakable bond that bonded us together.

The woman was beautiful and still looked to be capable of carrying me but I knew that we wouldn't reach far before she gets tired.

Behind us, numerous thuds of feet that looked like a congregation were closely following behind. I thought of the fact that these people cherished me more than King himself, I was lucky but I knew it wouldn't last as my sentence had already been set. At least they were showing their last respects.

"Lola, I can carry him for you. Please let me help you this once." A manly voice came from the side as I turned my head and stared at the man's face.

He was adorned in a shiny battle armor. He had a build-up body that looked like he could crush anyone with just his hands and brute force.

I felt my soul tremble as I stared at the man. He was a monster if there was another way to describe him. He towered over all the people and his steps were the loudest of all as the floor trembled with every hurried step that he took.

Behind his back, two enormous sword hilts protruded taking the shape of an X. My eyes widened as the fear for this man increased in multiple folds. He was a dual sword wielder, and they were massive in size that could cut a tree of several meters wide clean in one swing.

"These are the last hours that I get to hold my son, respect my decision, and let me carry and nurse him before he meets his doom tomorrow morning. Can you do that for me, Mountain?" Lola asked as she stopped in her tracks making the people behind her stop advancing.

At the back of the mass, Queen Eulalie was carrying Nevaeh in her hands trying to find a way to Lola's chambers.

She has been screaming but couldn't get the attention of all the people in front of her. Mostly were commoners and she felt that she was being disrespected but she started to ask herself questions that would ease her concerns.

'What were all these people doing at the castle this early in the morning?'

This was so unusual. The Queen started to think of all the possibilities that such a huge crowd was in her castle early in the morning.

With fear in her eyes for her daughter who was hated across the kingdom, she decided to use another way so that her daughter wouldn't be discovered and probably killed by the mass.

We made our way smoothly across several halls and staircases. While all the while the crowd kept with us.

A noble opened a door and my mother took me in before placing me down on a worn-out bed in the side of the large room that that looked untidy.

I moved my eyes from one corner to another and I couldn't help but frown.

'This is my house?'

The room looked to be staffed to the top. Everywhere my gaze passed, it was either a shelf full of apparatus, bottles of medicine, or tables full of medicinal ingredients.

'How have I been living in this room since I was young?'

The air was heavy with the disgusting smell of different kinds of herbal medicine. I started to see my vision blurring as the smell assaulted my nostrils.

Besides me, a beautiful girl was caressing my face with her sturdy hands. Tears were rolling down freely while she gazed me in the eyes. I don't know when she sat beside me as I guess that I was so engrossed in my surroundings to feel her presence.

While I took her face in, I remembered her as she was beside Toothless and my mom in the hall. She was Toothless sister.

Suddenly there was a commotion in the small hallway leading to our quarters.

"Make way for the Queen... Move aside..." Came in the voice from afar and people parted as they made a way for the Queen to pass who was holding her daughter in her arms.

Horror strike deep in the people's hearts as they saw the one responsible for this commotion being carried lifelessly to the physician's quarters.

They were fearful and at the same time, they were rejoicing. It was the perfect opportunity to smile in their hearts and congratulate the one that kept her in that state just after giving out the death sentence.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Soft hurried footsteps echoed across the narrow hall followed by a few knights that cleared the way.

My mother looked up as she saw the people making way for someone.

Shutter!

Bang! Bang!

Shutter!

Splash! Splash!

Bang!

Pu!

Lola fell sideways when she saw the royals that graced her quarters with their presence.

Along the process, several cabinets, shelves, and tables toppled over spilling their contents which broke upon touching the sturdy floor.

It was soon a mess even before Lola landed on the floor. Someone was just in time as he held her in his arms preventing further damage.

The Mountain held her in place until he felt she was alright when she let her stand on her own feet.

"Lola, please help my daughter." Eulalie bawled as she held her daughter in her arms.

Lola looked at Nevaeh who was still conscious and staring at someone else not concerned about the dozens of people around.

At this time, I was looking at the one who passed my sentence and wondered what happened to her in a short period of time.

Then I heard my mother say something and the next thing that I saw was that someone moved me to one side of the small bed while Nevaeh was laid against me. The bed was so small and made our sides touch each other.

"Please help her..." The Queen pleaded while gazing at me with curiosity and concern.

The people around gave out their concerns as whispers reached our ears including the Queen.

I was really unlucky in this life I guess. Even the mass knew that as they took pity on me for sleeping beside the same person that ordered my death.

"Out... Everyone out, clear the room and the halls." The Queen bellowed as she couldn't keep quiet after hearing about the message that the whispers carried.

Within a moment, all those around scrammed and went with their daily chores leaving only four people inside the room which now was in a mess with broken shards of glasses from different types of equipment and the spilled contents of several herbal potions.

"Is it true?.. What I heard just now?" The Queen asked as her face turned pale in a matter of seconds.

"No my Queen, my son... did.. some bad things to the princess... and also... also..."Lola stammered as she answered the question without even the knowledge of what his son did.

"You don't even know what he did. Can you just trust me this one time and look me in the fucking eyes while answering." The Queen bellowed as she already knew that Lola was just doing what everyone else would do and take all the blame.

"I don't know what happened... He was here one second and the other he was just gone. I looked for him everywhere only to learn he was arrested for something that I don't know." Lola cried bitterly as she replied.

She was past reckoning as she let it all out. The pain, the misery, the ungratefulness, and many more that she didn't get credit for her efforts working for the kingdom.

"Nevaeh, are you responsible for this situation? Is that why Heaven did this to you?.. You are such an ungrateful child." The Queen snorted as she gazed at her daughter and it seemed that she knew something that the rest of us knew nothing of.

"What have I always told you? You can't force someone to love you. There are so many boys that are unique than him. Why would you force something that will only break your heart?" The Queen asked with concern and worry in her face making my mother and I be speechless.

'Wait? She loves.... shit!'

I turned my head sideways only to see streaks of tears rolling down Nevaeh's face. I guess it's true that she is just jealous but to the extent that she would go to achieve her goals, that scared the hell out of me.

"He is unique mom. He is not like the others that are always praising me because am a royal...

He is true just like my sister. They do whatever they want, whenever they want to...

I also want to experience that, mom. I want to be normal like them...

I am sorry mom but I didn't ask to be born a royal..." More tears dropped down as her mother coaxed her.

We were all left speechless by that small confession and now it was all in the open as to why she was so ruthless.
