Hell's Consort

"I will make you my queen." He grabbed the chains attached to the bed and closed the shackles around her wrists. "I'm the High Priestess. You can't—" Fear trembled through her mind and body. She couldn’t consummate this marriage if the Blood Beast truly decided to make her his queen. Luna must remain a virgin High Priestess in order to remain a vessel for Hecate's magic. "What are you planning to do?" “I will make you mine no matter what so that I can take control of the Vampire King's consciousness forever. He won’t be back anytime soon." Luna thought the Blood Beast was out of his mind for wanting to make the virgin High Priestess his mate. The consequences of that would… Her mind raced through all of the possible consequences. There was no way she could allow the Blood Beast to gain any more power. Especially if he gained that power by drinking the blood that was, laced with Hecate’s magic, running through her veins. She needed the Vampire King back. The Blood Beast moved on top of her body. He stopped when he was at eye level with her. The sudden intimacy was shocking, especially since she was tied down. Chest to chest, he removed her cloak and peeled off her flimsy dress. He growled. "If you struggle, I will rip your head off." +++ Luna was one of the few remaining Amazons who worshipped the goddess Artemis. As an Amazon, her ordinary life took an unexpected turn when a pack of rogue werewolves took over their home--the Sacred Valley. Left with no other choice, Luna flees into the nearest kingdom, the Vampire Realm, where she was captured to be part of the Vampire King’s Consortium. To avoid the fate of living and dying as a Harem girl for vampires, she offers to become the High Priestess and study dark magic in order to break the King's curse. If she is successful, she could request the King to grant her her well-earned freedom. There has not been an official High Priestess in the Vampire Realm for centuries. Not since the first High Priestess cursed the King to become the Blood Beast. When the Blood Beast tries to take the reins of the Vampire King's consciousness, the King was cursed to drain the blood and his victims' life force in order to pacify the other immortal inside of him. In order to try and maintain some semblance of control, the Vampire King is forced to maintain his strength and immortality by kidnapping women from all over the realm to be used for food and sex. But, what will he do when he finds a woman worth keeping, but he can't even touch her? Will he be able to control his hunger for blood and lust when he looks upon her delectable body? As the new High Priestess, Luna was able to become more powerful than ever before. As she did her best to break the Vampire King's curse, what will happen to her when the 'curse' latches on to her instead?

From her elevated position above the throng, Luna surveyed the bustling scene below, her eyes wide and fists tight. Twin fires roared from massive fireplaces at either end of the hall. Luna found it perplexing at first, given vampires' cold-blooded nature. But Cederic had explained: they hosted guests from other realms, eager to align with the Vampire King.

The torches lining the walls cast a golden hue, reflecting off goblets, sword hilts, and dazzling jewels. Cup-bearers promptly refilled any emptied vessels, their contents forever flowing. Was it wine or blood that sparkled within?

"We're tardy," Cederic whispered. "The concubines have been introduced."

"The banquet seems underway," Luna remarked, her nose twitching at the meat's robust aroma.

Her stomach growled, a stark reminder of simpler times when her diet consisted of fish and fruits. Hastily, she pressed her hands against it, hoping to silence further protests.

Cederic responded, "Guests aren't denied food, even if the banquet starts early."

"But surely it's improper for guests to feast before the Vampire King's entrance."

"Patience. This gathering follows a particular protocol." He urged, "Stay close, and don't draw attention."

Amid the hubbub, the melodies from harps and violins vied for attention. Luna's gaze landed on a specific platform, her face draining of color. "Why is he here?" she nudged Cederic, referring to the werewolf who once breached the Amazonian sanctuary.

Cederic replied, "He's an alpha from nearby lands, seeking an alliance."

A pang of anxiety hit her. "Did they enter by force, or were they invited?"

"For occasions like these, we lower our shields. It's vital to discern allies from adversaries."

Her complexion turned an unsettling shade of green as she identified Astarte beside the werewolf—an Amazonian traitor. Luna refused to let such a betrayer see her garbed as if she were some vampire's plaything.

Around the alpha, loyal betas and sentinels, each demanding and commanding respect, laughed and toasted. They were clothed in soft leather vests and forest-green attire, exuding an aura of regality.

Luna felt a surge of panic. "Take me away," she urged, and when Cederic hesitated, she pleaded, "Now, please!"

Cederic, alarmed, tightened his hold on her, "The Vampire King is about to emerge. Are you reconsidering the High Priestess path? You seemed so determined earlier."

Misinterpreting his intent, Luna tried to pull away and inadvertently entangled herself in a velvet curtain. It cascaded down, draping over several dancers. The music ceased, and all eyes shifted to her.

Quickly, Cederic was at her side, steadying her. But Luna's attention was on the werewolf alpha, who rose slowly, his gaze traveling her form. As she locked eyes with Astarte, the atmosphere grew palpable with tension.

Sensing the looming storm, Cederic addressed the room with authority, "Ladies and gentlemen, your attention, if you please."

Cederic paused, allowing the group to disentangle themselves from the heavy curtains. Luna would have run, but his firm grip on her propelled her forward.

"We've introduced new females into the Consortium, as you all know. This young woman before you is a notable addition—a consort with ambitions of becoming our first High Priestess in centuries. Given the declaration of the concubines tonight, surely this is cause for celebration," he announced.

Uncertain murmurs flitted through the crowd before they directed their gazes toward Fei, the age-old High Priest.

Fei's fingers began to stroke his beard—a gesture Cederic recognized immediately. Not to be outdone, Cederic raised his voice, "Despite certain... circumstances that have left her in a somewhat weakened state, this lady desires to take her vows."

Fei's baritone interrupted, "Two criteria must be met for this test. Firstly, she must be a virgin—a sacrifice to the gods and goddesses for the title of High Priestess."

Rolling his eyes, Cederic responded, "She's both virgin and war prize. What more do you need?"

"And a hint of magic in her lineage," Fei added, almost to himself.

"We won't know until we try," Cederic retorted, eliciting a round of applause.

Fei's voice took on a more somber note, "Should the Book of Hecate accept her blood, she may proceed. If she proves unworthy, she'll face the dungeons, or the guillotine, like those who've tried to deceive us before."

Smirking, Cederic shot back, "I'd wager she'll surprise you, old man. As her mentor, she might just overshadow you."

From the corner of her mouth, Luna whispered sharply, "You're pushing your luck."

Cederic's voice was low, meant only for her, "Trust me. If Fei despises you, he'll give you space. And honestly? Getting under his skin is a personal pastime of mine."

She shot back, "You're gambling with my life."

As Fei rose, the room's atmosphere grew taut. The ancient book and staff appeared in his hands. Luna steeled herself, moving towards him. As she did, the crowd reached out, their touches laden with unspoken empathy.

Mounting the dais, she took a moment to survey the room. All eyes were on her—some curious, some skeptical. Cederic, however, looked entirely disinterested, his attention seemingly on his boots.

Fei's outstretched hand beckoned. Luna knew refusal wasn't an option. With measured tones, he commanded, "Swear your Blood Oath, and vow celibacy for a year, committing yourself to breaking the Vampire King's curse."

"As the future High Priestess, I pledge to maintain my vow and strive to end the curse. Should I succeed, I expect my desires to be honored," she proclaimed.

Fei, drawing a knife, made a swift incision on her palm. Despite the sharp sting, Luna remained resolute, letting her blood fall onto the Book of Hecate's lock. It disintegrated, crashing to the ground. The hall fell silent.

"Incredible," Fei breathed. "The goddess confirms you possess magic. The Staff of Delphi is now yours—it will reveal the future to you, once it acknowledges its new bearer."

As Luna accepted the staff, Fei lowered himself to one knee, pressing a respectful kiss to her hand. "High Priestess."

Amid the ensuing jubilation, Fei leaned in, his voice barely audible, "And to whom do you pledge your loyalty?"

Before she could answer, Cederic interjected, pulling her away, "She's already sworn her loyalty to me, Fei. No need for repetition."
