What Is Love?

Am I in love with Nathan? At first, I only thought of him as a handsome young man. I always crave for him. And I can't deny that I lust for him, even before our first date. But... was it love at first sight?

When he was gone. I didn't know how to contact him. He doesn't answer nor reply. I always thought that something bad might have happened. I keep on thinking about him. Wondering if he is okay? But we were still young. I don't know if I should meddle in their family matters.

Yet, when I see Nathan in front of me... his ghost. Not his silhouette, but his spirit. Are you really dead Nathan? Do you still remember me?

I finally realized that I indeed fell for him. I only felt it now, and it was too late. He is no longer alive. I may be able to see him, but I cannot touch him. If only I did something before. If only... If only...

"Devin, don't cry," Nathan said with a sad tone.

"I'm still alive" As Nathan said those words, Devin immediately looked up with confusion and a feeling of hope.

"I am still alive but I am in a coma. It all happened last year..." Nathan then proceeded to explain what happened.

"After our date, my bodyguard was waiting for me at the park. As he was driving me back to my home we had an accident. My body was aching my head was bleeding but my bodyguard was already lying dead. I managed to survive that crash. They send me to the hospital and proceeded with my surgery. My body cannot move, my eyes cannot open. At that time I asked myself. Why can I see this happening? I realized I became a spirit. My step-parents never visited me even just once. I didn't have any friends and I was getting lonely. So I decided to wander around the hospital. I tried to look for others like me but, I was the only one who was in a coma. So I left the building and wandered around. I accidentally ended up at the park we went to before. I stayed there waiting for a chance to meet you. But It was already a year since. I didn't know how to communicate with you. I don't know where you lived, or where you studied. I tried to go to the cafe you were working at but you were never there even once. So, I thought you might have quit."

"I'm sorry if only I went to the park I might've found you earlier" Devin replied with a conflicted expression.

"It's okay, I finally found you. I found you by chance. I was already with you since yesterday." Nathan said it with a soft smile.

"But why couldn't I see you?" Devin asked with confusion.

"I never knew you could see ghosts, maybe you could only see me now because someone else saw me?" Nathan answered with uncertainty.

"I don't even know what's going on. When I turned 13, I lost the ability to see ghosts. It just came to me this day. Were you the one spying on me at the gym?" Devin asked Nathan.

"It was someone else. It wasn't a ghost it was your teacher" Nathan answered with a disgusted demeanor.

"I'll look for her," the ghost girl said as she raised her hand.

"No, don't she might control you again" Devin replied.

"Never mind her, I want to talk to you still Nathan," Devin said to Nathan with desperation in his eyes.

"I never knew you were so desperate," Nathan said with a chuckle at the end of his sentence

"I'm not!" Devin pouted as he said that.

Nathan and Devin both smiled. But the ghost girl was irritated and said, "Okay, leave me out, why don't ya"

"Oh sorry, what's your name?" Nathan asked the ghost girl

"Hey don't interact with her, she's a loose spirit" Devin immediately responded.

"Hey, I'm a bound spirit! Your boyfriend is a loose spirit" the ghost girl was annoyed.

"My name is Cynthia," said the ghost girl.

"Hello, Cynthia, my name is Nathan, and this rude fella is Devin" Nathan replied with his eyes and mouth smiling like a crescent moon.

"Hey, don't freely tell other spirits our names!" Devin said feeling provoked.

"Why are you so wary of me so much boy?" Cynthia approached Devin closer with an intimidating posture.

"Because... spirits should not have any connection between the living if they did then they will become bound with them" Devin explained with a composed expression and his arms crossed.

"Then do you want to leave Nathan behind?" Cynthia provoked Devin.

"No, I only exempt Nathan, but you, no" Devin pointed at Cynthia with disapproval.

"Why not?! I'm tired of this place. Then I'll just go along with Nathan then" Cynthia responded.

"Don't you even try in getting close to him!" Devin raised his fists towards Cynthia.

"Guys, please stop fighting," Nathan asked while his voice cowering.

"What!?" Both of them shouted at Nathan, then realized that and started apologizing to Nathan.

The bell rang, and Devin scratched his head, then told Nathan, "Let's talk here again at lunchtime". Nathan responded with a nod. "And you! Don't ever try to disturb me while I'm in class. I'll handle that bitch myself" Devin yelled to Cynthia.

Devin then said goodbye to Nathan with a soft tone and went back to his classroom.

As he was leaving, Cynthia asked Nathan, "Why can't we just go with him, it's not like anyone can see us, right?"

"No, maybe he is too shy for us to walk together" Nathan replied.

"I can't believe you two are lovers, both of you are polar opposites," Cynthia asked.

"Just like magnets, opposite attracts," Nathan answered with a contented feeling.

Cynthia looked at him and felt sad. Then she said to Nathan, "You know if you take too long away from your body, you might eventually really die"

Nathan was shocked at what he heard but he just rubbed it off by saying, "I won't let that happen"

Cynthia then said goodbye to Nathan and went towards the garden of the school.

Nathan then was feeling nervous, he touched his chest and repeated the words, "I won't let that happen"
