A dance

Dinner was lively that night as they talked about the preliminary audition that day. Zac complimented Kaia on her talented students, while Alexa told everyone everything there was to know about each and every one of the students that were mentioned.

Alex would chime in every now and then when they talked about the students that passed the audition. He also praised a few notable mentions that he considered, but ultimately couldn't accept.

Kaia, on the other hand, was strangely quiet as she smiled and nodded along. She probably spent more time staring at her surprisingly interesting bowl of rice than Alex, Zac, and her daughter. She couldn't make herself look up for too long without feeling self-conscious with Alex sitting right across from her.

When they finished dinner, Kaia cleared the table and placed the dishes in the sink. She heard upbeat music coming from the living room and smiled. She knew Alexa was probably getting ready to dance. She could already hear her daughter's giggles as Alexa talked to Alex and Zac.

Meticulously scrubbing the dishes, she suddenly heard Alexa call out, "MUMMY!" Kaia was startled out of her slight daze. Her mind blanked for a few seconds before she registered that Alexa was calling her. She quickly dried her hands and made long strides towards the living room. Brushing a few strands of hair behind her ear, she reached the entrance leading into the living room and leaned her head to the left. She saw Alex and Alexa dancing around the living room with big smiles.

Kaia stood there with a huge grin across her face. She internally squealed while watching the father-daughter pair prancing around, hand-in-hand. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Zac recording them. She waved to catch his attention before pointing at the camera and mouthing, "Zac, send it to me later." Zac gave her a slight nod in response.

After the song ended, Alexa skipped over to Kaia. With sparkling eyes and an adorable smile, she grabbed Kaia's hand and swayed it side to side. With a slight pout, she looked up and gave her best puppy eyes. "Mummy~! I'm tireddd, can you dance with daddy for me? I don't want him to dance alone..." While Kaia was trying to comprehend what her daughter was asking her, Alexa took the silence as a "yes" and quickly led her mummy over to her daddy.

Before Kaia could react, she placed Kaia's hand into Alex's warm ones and held theirs together in her small and soft hands. Kaia blinked. She felt a tingling warmth spreading in her slightly moist hands. It was a comforting warmth that she couldn't exactly make herself pull away from.

The trio stood there with Zac awkwardly still filming in the background. Zac really wasn't sure why the third wheel like him was still there. Sighing internally, he noticed the small dimple on Alex's left cheek. That dimple only formed whenever Alex was around Kaia. His gaze darkened slightly as his arms started to feel even sorer. He really should start considering getting himself a girlfriend to show off in front of his boss...

Kaia looked up shyly and met Alex's gaze. Alexa took this as her cue to let go and Alex caught on to the meaningful look his daughter was giving him. The song that now played was a slower one. Alex smiled as he gently pulled Kaia close and smoothly led her around the living room while swaying to the rhythm.

Alexa walked up to Zac and whispered, "Mummy and Daddy are so cute!" through muffled giggles. With a bemused expression, Zac looked down at Alexa and whispered, "They sure are!" After a bit of standing on the sidelines, Zac decided to stop recording the couple's "moment" and looked down. "Hey Alexa, how about we give your parents some alone time and go inside the kitchen to eat some ice cream?"

"Ooohhh!" Alexa squealed and immediately placed her hand in Zac's outstretched ones. With a spring in her step, she practically dragged him towards the kitchen. Zac chuckled and let the little girl lead him along. With a slight turn of his head, he stared at his boss' tender and warm expression before turning his attention back towards the little girl urgently tugging his arm.
