In her dream, Su Jian was sweating profusely. She grabbed her phone and called Jin Pingchuan. Jin Pingchuan arrived and resolved the matter. The details were vague. She woke up from her dream shortly after.
Su Jian opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling of the hospital. It was at the crack of dawn. People in the hospital had started moving around. Some attendants went to the corridor to freshen up. Others went to buy breakfast.
Su Jian checked the time. It was still early. Instead of getting up immediately, she listened to the bustling noises around her and recalled her dream. This inevitably reminded her of Jin Pingchuan. Jin Pingchuan suddenly seemed so far away from her. The events of the past two days had felt like a dream... When she woke up from her dream, her life had not changed at all. She felt trapped in a stagnant pool of water.
Su Jian sighed. Why was Jin Pingchuan portrayed as the hero in her dream? Had developed a sense of dependence on him after spending a few days with him?
Su Jian shook her head and got up to freshen up. She had to go to the Su family's house today.
The Su family resided in a well-known wealthy district in Lingnan City. An hour later, Su Jian stood in front of the Su family's villa. She had lived in this place for fourteen years. It was a period from the age of eight until she left at twenty-two. This place had provided her with warmth and also brought her sorrow. Now, neither remained.
"Who are you?" a security guard asked warily.
Su Jian stated her name and watched as the security guard called for Grandpa Su. She was eventually granted permission to enter the house. As she ascended the stairs, an adorable child ran out and looked up at Su Jian curiously.
Qin Xin was right behind him. "Be careful, don't run around recklessly," she cautioned. As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Su Jian. Surprise flashed across her face. "Su Jian, why are you here?"
"Sister-in-law," Su Jian greeted her.
Qin Xin nodded and picked up the little boy. "Xiao Shu, she's your Aunt."
"Aunt!" Xiao Shu's voice was loud and clear.
"Good child," Su Jian replied. She rapidly lowered her gaze. She didn't dare to look into Xiao Shu's eyes because it would remind her of the past.
Su Yinian had once said to Su Jian, "Su Jian, I will marry you in this lifetime."
Su Yinian had once said to Su Jian, "Can we have two children in the future? Let's have one that looks like you, and one that looks like me."
What happened afterward? Su Yinian married a girl who matched his social status and gave birth to a beautiful little boy.
Su Jian's eyes clouded over. Even though four years had passed, these memories were still too raw and painful. She thought that her wounds had healed long ago, but they still hurt. She had deliberately chosen to ignore the pain.
"So adorable," Su Jian caressed the little boy's face. This child bore a striking resemblance to a young Su Yinian.
"What brings you here today?" Qin Xin pulled Su Jian into the house and handed Xiao Shu to the nanny. Then, she smiled and engaged in conversation with Su Jian.
Just as Su Jian was about to reply, the sound of high-heeled shoes could be heard. A wealthy lady with her hair tied up descended the spiral staircase. When she saw Su Jian, her eyes turned cold.
"Su Jian, have you no shame? Su Yinian is already married. Look at the gall of you turning up here! You haven't given up and are still pestering the Su family!" The lady immediately launched into the attack.
Su Jian's body stiffened. Her face turned pale. This lady was none other than Su Yinian's mother, Zhou Hong.
From where she stood on the spiral staircase, Zhou Hong looked down at Su Jian. She spoke arrogantly, "Please leave right away! If you want the old man and old lady to have another bout of heart attacks because of you, be my guest."
Zhou Hong's words were filled with malice.
Su Jian gritted her teeth. She turned and left without saying a word.
Zhou Hong was a formidable woman. She had a sharp tongue and often enraged Grandpa Su. She had even struck Su Yinian. Su Jian had already grown to fear her in the past. Her fear had only grown ever since.
Su Jian left the Su family's house in a daze. She had intended to resolve the matter today. However, not only did she not see Su Yinian, but she had also encountered Zhou Hong... She didn't know that Su Yinian wasn't home. She didn't know that Zhou Hong was at the Su family's house. If she had known, she wouldn't have gone today.
Su Jian was still in a state of shock when she arrived home. At that moment, a familiar voice sounded at the door. "Su Jian, where have you been? Why are you back so late?"
Su Jian looked up and saw the man who had once moved the tides in her heart. He was quietly gazing at her while leaning against her door.
Su Jian felt a pang of bitterness. She turned her head away. She did not want Su Yinian to see her current appearance.
