(n.) what makes one human; humanity.

Willow’s POV

“Willow?” I opened my eyes and looked at the person above me, it was Jace.

“What happened?” I asked as I felt a migraine forming from the back of my head. I touched my forehead and retreated my hand with my blood. Who the hell was that?

“I should be asking you that,” Jace said, and I shook my head, resting my head back on the pillow. It was almost dark outside; I sighed and watched him staring at me. I sighed again and closed my eyes.

“Where is everyone?” I asked and he stood up and I heard the glass door shut close. The bed dipped and a hand rested on top of mine.

“Diego is not here. He had a meeting with Lawrence, and his third in command went with him. The girls went shopping so it’s just me and you,” I nodded and sat straight. Jace looked into my eyes, and I saw lust plastered all over his face.

“Can you excuse me?” I asked and he nodded his head and got out. I walked to the balcony and looked for the small bottle.

I couldn’t find it anywhere; I saw pieces of glass shards. I bent down to touch them, some of them had blood on the. Mine, I guess. I saw a pair of glasses under my bed, I crawled toward them and picked them up.

I sat on the bed and examined them. I was about to put them on my eyes when I heard some noise from downstairs. I walked out and found Diego's girlfriend and her friend rummaging through the living room.

“Are you sure you put them here?” Bradley’s girlfriend asked and Diego's girlfriend looked at her then at me. Her eyes went wide before she walked toward me.

“You took them, didn’t you?” she asked and grabbed my wrist.

“What are you talking about?” I asked and she turned to me. She looked pretty pissed as she got chest to chest with me. I pulled my hand out of hers and walked to the kitchen. I took a bottle of juice and stared at her, she walked toward me and slapped the bottle out of my hand, it fell to the floor and she glared into my eyes.

“You know what I’m talking about,” she said and she pulled the knife from its holder, she brought it closer to my face in hopes of scaring me. I stared at her and she brought it even closer.

“If you keep pointing that thing at me then I won’t be held responsible for what I do in temptation.”

“Excuse me?” she asked, and I stared at the shiny knife in her hand.

“Move that thing from my face, the road to temptation is very short,” I told her and she got closer to me. I felt like snapping her neck into two as she placed the knife on the base of my neck. She started slowly pressing the knife on my skin, and it hurt like hell. I stepped back and she smiled at the small cut she did on my skin. I slapped her and her head craned to the side, I yanked the knife from her and gave her a small cut on her thigh but just big for her to bleed. She let out a scream and bent down to cover her wounded thighs.

“What is going on here?” I looked toward Diego and rolled my eyes, placing the knife on the island and walking to the bedroom. I went to the bathroom and looked for a Band-Aid. I found it and plastered it on the scar. My skin looked hideous, like tons of acid were thrown on me.

“What happened?” I looked at Diego through the mirror and tied the bathrobe around my body. He walked in and stood behind me, waiting for my answer.

“Do you care?” I asked knowing that Angelica has defended herself already, and anything I said in the next few minutes will be useless.

“No, I don’t. I just thought you would like to defend yourself,” I smirked and turned to him.

“I wouldn’t,” I told him and walked to the bedroom, and he followed me. The glasses were gone, either Diego took them, or Angelica came in here and took them herself. And when did she even come in her for her glasses to be under my bed?

“Come on, Willow,” I turned to him and raised an eyebrow. “I’m choking here,” I rolled my eyes and went to the balcony. He followed me still. He stood behind me in silence.

“What happened to your forehead?” he finally asked, I shrugged and he walked behind me. Hugging me, I could feel him on me. I ignored the butterflies in my stomach and stared at the couples on the beach. His fingers dug into my waist causing my back to involuntarily arch.

“Someone hit my face,” I told him and he released me and then turned me to him.

“Who?”

“My highest bid is your girlfriend.”

“Angel?”

“More like the devil,” I commented and he chuckled before pulling away from me. He looked at people below us and looked at me, his facial features softening. He is a beautiful creature.

“You just have to get to know her. She's not that bad,” I rolled my eyes, and he pulled me closer to him before resting his head on my shoulder again. We fit together so perfectly.

“She is a crackhead,” I told him, and he laughed, glad I could be amusing to someone.

“What are you thinking?” he asked, and I rolled my eyes, pulling away from him. I turned to the beach and a familiar face appeared, I forgot where I saw the man. He looked into my eyes as if knowing my thoughts. He smiled and looked in the distance. I followed his eyes and saw the hooded man. He waved and I stared at him.

“Diego, there he is.”

“Who?”

“The hooded man.”

“Where?” Diego asked and I pointed at the man. Diego looked where my finger was pointing before he took off running out of the room. I stared at the man who made a gun with his finger and ‘fired’ it at me. The moment he released his hand, a small stone hit the glass behind me. I looked at the familiar man and that was when I remembered.

He was dad’s enemy, the only man who hated dad more than dad hated himself.

“I will hunt your blood one by one. Starting with the one you love most,” he had said. I stared at him, and he made a death motion with his hand before he pointed at the hooded man, I looked to where he was pointing but found no one. When I tried to look back, he was nowhere to be found along with the hooded man. Diego was also looking around while I stressed about how my death is so near. But I am not ready to die. I turned to Diego, and he was looking at a paper, I walked back inside the bedroom and went t the closet, putting on my tights with an oversized shirt, I walked to the kitchen and found Diego pacing up and down.

“Do you know that man?” he turned to me, and I ignored him, I was the one who asked him that, and now he is interrogating me. How mad is this man?

“He asked you a question,” Angelica said, and I walked to Diego, glaring into his eyes. He sighed and looked away, gripping the paper in his hand, I took it from him and looked at it.

“Do you trust her?” I stared at the paper and then at Diego, he was doubting me. Of course, I would doubt myself too. I’m a stranger he just married.

“Are you trustworthy, Willow?” he asked, and I chuckled going to sit next to Bradley who looked like he was waiting for the next order from Diego.

“Am I?” I looked at Diego who pulled his gun out and pointed it at me. I looked into his eyes then as the trigger, he was just scaring me, his finger was not on the trigger. I walked to him and rested my head on the tip of the gun.

“Shoot me and ask questions later,” I said, and he was about to put the gun down when I held it in position the fixed his finger on the trigger.

“What the hell, Willow?” he asked, and I got even closer to the gun.

“With what?” I asked, deep down my stomach was playing backflips. I felt like running and hiding under the mat.

“What did he mean? Should I trust you?” I chuckled and he stared at me, putting his hand down.

“You shouldn’t. Not until you know what I did to survive.”
