“Hello skaat,you seem quite busy what are you working on?” he asked

“There’s a church named the United Angels Of God church operating only with no physical branch. A couple of followers have claimed to have been filled with demonic spirit’s by the priest who says he will assist them by giving them miracle’s.” I said

“I know that Church, the GOH has been investigating it”

My father went to his office then returned with an investigative file against the church.

“It says here that the church is led by three siblings whose names are Issac,Tony and Mashiah Kirwo”

“Are they South African citizen’s?

“Yes, but for now we don’t have enough information to close down the church just yet.” Said my father.

“oh ok,can I help?”

“No, It’s too risky, you need more training”

My father would not allow me to take on any missions, this of course made me mad. I couldn’t stand being underestimated. I had to find a way to prove myself.

I was expecting the GOH to contact me regarding any new case to solve as I had been promised work as soon as I had finished my training. I think all the graduates felt the same way . To clear my head from the stress of waiting, I went out shopping.

While I was cooking dinner, I heard the doorbell ring, I opened the door only to find that it was Mika.

“HI “he said. Before I could respond I pulled him into the house, then pinned him to the wall with my right arm.”How did you find me, tell me!” I yelled.

“I am not here to fight, I have something to tell you”

“First tell me how you found me”

“Ok I followed you around today I tried calling out for you but it seemed you couldn’t hear me, I continued to follow you till I saw you entering the yard.

Seeing the desperation in his eyes for air, I let him go. He took heavy breaths before he was ready to speak.

“I did go shopping today, I did hear someone calling me from behind but I refused to look back, as I grew up being taught that witches steal people for body parts using that method, you hear a person calling you from behind or at night, when you look to answer then you see no one, if it happens the second time, you’re gone forever”

“So why are you here?”

“There is new information from a source that might get us real cases to solve. Apparently the GOH is looking to hire it’s previous student’s in July, a month away from now for a case that has come up.

“What! Were going to become guardians, oh my God, Mika were going to become guardians!!”I screamed with joy.

I grabbed Mika and gave him a kiss on the cheeks, from the joy I felt.

“I am glad you are happy, but the only way we could ever become guardians is if we win our first case and in order to win a case you need to be given a real case to solve “he said, with a frown.

“Lets wait for a week, perhaps they will call us,ok”

“What are you doing on Saturday”

“I don’t know I don’t have plans yet,why?”I asked

“I want you to come eat dinner at my place, it’s nothing really just old friends hanging out, please say yes.”

I giggled. We hadn’t even know each other that long but he was referring to me as his old friend.

“that’s kind of funny, the way you said it.i don’t know I will have to first check my schedule and get back to you” I replied.

Mika frown a little bit,”alright I’ll wait for your call then, here’s my card” he said.

We parted ways. When I entered the house I immediately went straight to the shower, I had to freshen up. I didn’t put much thought in going out on a dinner with Mika, we were still getting to know each other as friends. My father didn’t like it when I visited Mika.

“Boy’s will destroy your focus “he would say.

His words were starting to irritate me, I decided to move out in order to live freely.My father was petrified and I felt free.

The apartment I had found was affordable, close to nature and the landlord didn’t bother me, even pets were allowed. I used to have a pet once, I named her filter because she kept changing colors as she was a chameleon. Thugs broke in my mother’s house and stole her together with the tiny furniture we had at the time.I would later discover what a filter meant at the GOH organization.

To keep myself busy, I developed a close bond with my laptop. Important information such as do it yourself tutorials were things I searched for, that's how I was able to learn language’s.

Saturday arrived quicker than I thought, fortunately I had something nice to wear, I put on my navy blue denim, White fur jacket and black ankle boots.

I braided three lines on one side of my head, the rest of the hair I left it as a brown curled afro. No lipstick, only gloss. Before 6pm,I was on the road. “6,05,pm I finally arrived. Before I could knock Mika opened the door for me.We exchange greetings and hugged. The food was scrumptious, couscous with leg of lamb drizzled with sweet honey sauce and a Greek salad. For desert, a lovely milk tart coated with cinnamon and chocolate flakes. I was impressed.

“Who taught you how to cook?” I asked

“The food looks amazing doesn’t it. Well it was my father. He was a chef at a hotel in Germany, he would visit us at month end and teach me and my sister’s how to prepare great food.”

“Wow, my mother can also cook.” I said.

“Good to hear, my mother died from a gunshot, we never found the killer, but I know his out there somewhere. I want you to come with me to Russia, My father would accept you instantly, because of your good heart and your extraordinary beauty.”

“That would be nice, but you know were friends right?”

“I know, come dance with me, I love this song “he said pulling me close to him.

Nomvula by freshly ground was playing. What I loved about Mika was he’s ability to adapt. He listened to a variety of songs, in a variety of languages, he also didn’t mind trying out food made by me. He pulled me closer toward him, but I pushed him away and he respected that, we continued dancing..

“Don’t you ever wish you were married?” I asked.

“I do “

“I wonder if I’ll ever get married” I frowned.

Mika stopped dancing, he stared for a long time into my eyes, “you will one day”

We stayed up late indulging in endless conversation about our childhoods,school,music,hobbies and disappointing relationships.

“I had a wonderful time with you, I hope we could do this again sometime “said Mika.

“I enjoyed myself as well, but it’s late and I have to go”

Mika held my hand gently and kissed it. I smiled.

“you know that we are friends right?” I said as a reminder that he should not forget his place.

“I know “he said. A frown covered his face, as he turned his glance away from me.He drove away..

The following morning, I experienced a hangover from hell. I switched off my mobile devices, hoping that no one would bother me. Just as I thought I had finally found my space, a knock came to my door. I peaked through the window and saw that it was my father. My room was a mess, I was a mess. “Give me a minute, I’m dressing.” I yelled.

I quickly tidied up the place, washed my face and brushed my teeth, my hair was still messy, I put on a cap to hide my untidy hair.

“Sorry to bother you this early, but I have good news which I thought would make your day.” My father grabbed my hands, then put them inside his as he usually did. “I know I have been hard on you, that was only because I wanted to protect you. I want you to come home. I know you have your own life, I won’t stand in your way. But please just don’t leave me please. If you want to take part of this case then it’s okay but I don’t think that will be necessary as you have been given a case by the board. “he explained.

I hugged my father before he could even finish talking.”tell me more”I said.

“An evil woman by the name of Bella Santos has been using young church leaders to spread demonic spirit’s to other young people.The young leaders are the founder’s of the United Angels of God Church.The GOH will make an announcement today around 7pm in their site,it seems the previous student’s will be solving the case.Tell Mika to come too.”he said.

I was ecstatic and immediately told Mika the wonderful news.

I had finally found my big break,a way to prove myself that I am truly worthy to be called the guardian of the hex. Before I could take on the responsibility of protecting the entire world, I needed to ensure my mother was safe. It had been months since we saw each other,I had to set up a date to check on her. As I was about to send her a text message,I received an email from her. “Dear Lebo, first of all I’d like to say that I love you. Secondly, I am sorry that your father has not told you to move in with him yet. I will come and talk to him,let me know the best date I should arrive in.”
