Chapter 50: The Union

Without warning the cross illuminates with such a bright light I have to squint to see Pastor wave it two times over my hand, sending and even more intense surge of pain to the wound, my eyes begin to water. But then the brightness and pain are suddenly gone as quickly as they came. The blood is completely vanished and incredibly, what is left is an impossible ring of white diamonds, somehow connected together in my flesh as they loop all the way around my ring finger. Breathless, I look up at Dominic, who's already grinning at me and his warm hand covers mine. I glance down; noticing only the remainder of a thick scar in the shape of a black ring imprinted on his left finger.

I fight back a wave of nausea rushing to my gut and swallow. While it's true marrying Dominic is absolutely what I want, convincing the rest of my body of that fact may take a minute.

Dominic notices and lifts a hand to my forehead, smoothing the hair away of my eyes, "Are you okay?" he whispers.
