Chapter 27: Dominic's Remorse

His hand goes back to the latch on the door, "I gave you part of me, part of my essence, and through our bond, you had the power to restore me. And you will always have it, no matter how badly I am hurt." he looks away and I swear he wipes something from his eyes, "But, I will never forgive myself for putting you and the others in so much danger."

His cloak suddenly whips a light snap at the edges of my dress and he flashes down the torch lit hallway. I rush to the door, only getting a final glimpse before the darkness consumes him whole, his rosemary and musky scent lingering heavily in the air. I stand frozen, staring at nothing as I scream out his name in my head, hoping like hell he will come back, even though I know he will not.

I finally allow myself to step back inside and slowly close the door, still watching for any hint of his return when through the crack, I think I see movement.

Is it him?

Did he change his mind?
