Leslie's POV:
I don't remember much, but the knock on the door and Ann's voice calling for Damien snapped me out of the daze I was in. My instincts took over, and I pushed Damien off me, sending him tumbling to the floor just as Ann entered the room.
What just happened?
One moment, I was outside being scolded by Ann for letting Damien take me out on that dangerous night ride. She was worried sick, but despite her scolding, I couldn't help but admit I enjoyed it. The wind in my hair, the speed, the thrill—I hadn't felt that alive in years. But then, out of nowhere, I was hit with an overwhelming pain, like my chest was being torn apart from the inside.
