"Fine, you win, I lost. Now stop looking at me that way," Nessa finally admitted defeat when Damon wouldn't stop grinning. She flushed, he was making her embarrassed - the guy was so petty.
"Don't be like that," Damon said.
"Like what?" She glanced at him in confusion, fiddling with her fingers. Then snatched her eyes away when their gaze met. For some reason, there was something quite intense about him tonight, as if she was beginning to find him attractive. Not that Damon hadn't always been attractive, but in an intimate sense. Maybe, she was just rambling nonsense.
"Yes, exactly just like that," He pointed out her red face, "Red, I like you better when you're all rude and stubborn not shy and blushing, like you are right now"
Nessa laughed, it was funny and not funny at the same time. She arched her brow, turning to face him, "Really?"
Damon turned to her as well, "Yep. I don't know if anyone has ever told you this, but you're quite cute when angry,"
She smirked at him, "You find me cute?"
"No," He answered.
Her face furrowed.
Damon replied, "I'm just pointing out the fact that you look less ugly when you're angry,"
"You!" She began to punch him on the arm, "This is why you're such an annoying Jerk,"
"Ouch," He cried out, dodging her blows, "Me?"
"Yeah, you" She was angry. Why can't he be chivalrous to her sometimes? Weren't boys naturally protective of women? What happened to Damon's DNA?
"When?" he pretended to be oblivious to her allegation, "I've always been a perfect gentleman,"
"Perfect gentlemen my butt!" Nessa gave up punching him - her knuckles were in pain, "You've never been one, like that when you insisted I liked you after you saw the flowers on your special desk in the library and mistook me as the one who dropped it cause I was on your seat. That was perfectly annoying, Damon Clair! " Nessa poked him on the chest and was relieved she said that. It felt as if she was relieved of a burden the whole time.
Meanwhile, unknown to her, Damon's heart was beating like a wild animal trying to escape his chest. It was the first time she called him by his full name and it made him feel weird sensations. What was going on with him? However, as Damon Clair would always be Damon Claire, he covered it up, resuming his playful demeanor.
"Why?" he teased her, "You don't like me?"
"Of course not! Why would I? "She seemed appalled at the idea.
And ouch! That hurts. Sincerely. Seriously, Damon, why does it matter if she likes you or not, why does it matter?
"Even if I like you?" Damon blurted out. Shit, he didn't mean that. Maybe her closeness was doing funny things to him. He should adjust a bit.
However, he didn't move a muscle, instead, a long awkward silence stretched between them until she tilted her head and asked him with arched brows, "Are you flirting with me?"
The damage has been done, why not go with the flow then? Damon dipped his head forward and asked, staring at her eyeball to eyeball, "What if I am?" but he never anticipated what happened next.
Red's face turned pale, and looked away, using her hair as a shield to hide her face from him.
Thanks to that reaction, Damon told her, "Ease up," He chuckled, "I was just fooling around with you," yet he was disturbed. Does she dislike him that much?
Red looked up slowly, perplexed "You were joking?" her expression changed to a relieved one, "Oh God, " Nessa groaned, pressing her temple with her hand while glaring at him.
Damon shrugged, "I just wanted to have fun," treating her to a brilliant smile.
Even Damon couldn't understand what happened exactly. Clearly getting attached to her was having an adverse reaction on him. He should limit the contact he has with her.
"Seriously" Nessa warned through gritted teeth, "Don't ever do that again else I won't talk to you till the day I die" She threatened, a scowl crossing her features as she appeared to be intimidating while in Damon's view, she looked cute. Incredibly cute.
They sat in silence for a while, lost in thoughts. Nessa was beginning to doubt her rescue and survival here. Since they were kidnapped, their abductors haven't made an appearance, not to mention the fact the door was zapped. What if they're locked in here for days and they get so hungry they begin to see each other as food?
Nessa turned and began to stare at Damon, who would eat each other first? She couldn't help but wonder what Damon's flesh would taste like? Jesus Christ, what the hell was she thinking?!
"What?" Damon asked, feeling the heat of her scrutiny, "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Do you think we'll be rescued?" Nessa asked him because she was not ready to become a cannibal. Imagine the thought of eating flesh… eww. Well, if push comes to shove, she was sure Damon would kill her first - that selfish, narcissistic prince annoying. Of all people, why couldn't she get stuck with Luke?
At least if she was with Luke, and the both of them on the bed like this. They would have taken their relationship to the next level. A-hem, Nessa, what are you thinking?
"Why not?" Damon assured her "My parents are bloody rich, they'll turn the earth upside down just to find and bring us back safe"
Nessa's face lit up, that was hopeful.
Well, Damon hoped his parents lived up to his expectations.
"But then," He began, "You don't have to be afraid, Red. With me here, you're safe,"
"Oh really?" her gaze said she didn't believe him.
"Believe me, I'll protect…." Damon suddenly moaned, feeling a sharp pain across his heart. What's happening?
Nessa saw the change in Damon's features, "Hey, you alright?" concern was written all over her face. Something was wrong with Damon, she could tell, but the damn asshole was good at keeping secrets from her.
"Yeah, I'm fi...." Another groan was ripped from his throat as he felt another pain cross his heart, Damon realized at once what was happening. It couldn't be the night of the cursed, right?
"Damon, talk to me!" Nessa was frustrated over his silence. Why was he allowed to hide his secret from her while he knew hers?
"Look out the window, Nessa," He said to her instead.
"What for?" she couldn't understand him. His mystery was becoming too much.
"Check if there's a full moon"
"Alright, you're officially becoming creepy? Why do I have to look out for a full moon? Damon, tell me something," she pleaded.
"Just do it!" he yelled at her unintentionally and that made Nessa scampered up to her feet at once, looking out the window nervously.
"T-there is one," she choked, a trace of fear in her eyes.
"Oh no," Damon shivered, fearfully.
It was happening right in front of Nessa. His abductors surely know a good day to ruin him. How could he have forgotten what today was? He had been distracted by Nessa's problems, he didn't remember his.
No one knows about the cursed night. Not even Naomi except his family, and now it's happening - right in front of Nessa, the last person on earth he wanted this to be revealed to and he's helpless to stop it as usual.
Perhaps, his brother Mark was right, there is no hope for the cursed. No hope for him.
