Geek Apocalypse: All Hell Break Loose

Cain Rivers used to be a pitiful kid. He was someone who bordered on the line between shy and antisocial. Not because of choice, but because of his own social anxiety and his fear of people. After two long years of work, he had finally been able to overcome his fears and become a socially functional person... but life had a lot more in store for him. When all hell breaks loose... will Cain be able to overcome the challenges that are to come? -------------------------------- No Harem. A bit of R18 (mostly on gore). Not dark-themed. No edgy MC. This Fanfic is going to be more of an original story using monsters and elements from videogames. E.g: A Final Fantasy themed dungeon, or a League of Legends one. So... that is about it.

A Team In Harmony

"If we are going to do this, lets do it right." Cain said while looking at the skills available. "I think it is of utmost importance that whatever skills we choose have at least a semblance of sinergy between them."

"That would make sense... like a party in an RPG game, right?" Dwight asked, while the girls looked at them, not really understanding what they were saying beyond the basic concept.

"Yeah... I've been looking at the skills for a bit now, managed to check twenty or so... and while they do seem good, I am not too sure about them." Cain went on to talk about the skills he had seen, particularly about the ones that would work well in a team. "I personally already have an idea on what I would like to go with, but I want to hear your opinions and how you would like to... well... fight, if need be."

In the end, they decided to think about that for five minutes and then decide what skills to go with. While everyone was checking the skills available, which were probably in the hundreds, Dwight and Cain were thinking about the overall posibilities they had.

"I already know what I am definitely going with so... maybe we can try and think about the logical 'formations', right?" Dwight proposed to Cain. "You probably already have an idea for everyone in mind, right?"

"Yeah... how did you know?" Cain asked, a bit surprised that Dwight could see through him.

"You just seemed too sure about everything, as if you had done it plenty of times before." Was the answer he got. He was still surprised at how observant Dwight was, but not to the point of being flabbergasted.

"Yeah... I played a lot, and I mean a LOT, of video games when I couldn't socialize." Cain explained. He looked a bit nostalgic at that. "Never really stopped, just don't play as much nowadays."

"Well... all of that experience will surely come in handy." Dwight complimented, before deciding they had had enought time to think about their wants. "Girls, time to decide, the sooner the better."

And just as he said that, he also decided to be the first one to speak. Why? Because Cain's chosen role might as well be the most dangerous one, but also one of the most crucial in any party. Dwight wanted, putting it quite simply, to be somewhat of a tank, or at least an attention grabber. Someone to pull aggro from whatever they were fighting so that the others could act with a lot more freedom.

"I want to be a sort of tank. Or at least I want to be the one to pull the aggro." He explained simply enough for them to understand... or so he expected.

"Um... what is aggro?" Jenna asked, clearly not understanding what he was talking about at all. She earned a few looks from everyone, but nothing that bothered her –they weren't mean looks, just surprised ones. "I've... never played games that required teamwork..."

"Well, aggro is the attention of the monster or enemy in games." Cain explained. It was honestly quite a simple concept, so everyone could understand it after knowing what it was. "On that note... are you going for Taunt or Battle Cry?"

"I was thinking of going for Battle Cry, but Taunt would work just as well, so let's check the girls first." Dwight answered before directing his gaze at the girls, of which Viola was the first to speak.

"I would like to keep my distance." Viola said before explaining a bit further. "I am not really athletic and I get too scared when a confrontation gets physical, so perhaps magic?"

Nodding slowly at Viola's words, processing them and discarding options, Cain looked at Jenna. "What about you, Jen?"

"H-Huh? Oh well... I..." Jenna began hesitantly, Caught off-guard by the sudden nickname. "I want... to be able to make the fight easier on you guys."

"I got the perfect thing for you..." Cain said with a smirk before deciding to explain his own choice. "I want to do damage. As much as possible. To that end, I wanted to pick Backstab."

"Now, I also have a few ideas in mind for you guys." He continued to talk, before looking at the other person who clearly knew what he wanted. " But you, Dwight, you can pick whichever amongst those two skills, they are equally useful and the function is pretty much the same."

"Then I will go with Battle Cry, since it buffs you guys whenever I use it." Dwight confirmed his choice before waiting for Cain to give his ideas to the girls.

"Viola, I think Magic Rope would be a good first skill for you, in order to work with us in harmony." Cain told Viola before looking a bit flustered at how commanding he had acted. "If... you're okay with that, of course."

"A skill that roots enemies in place by tying them with a magical rope that springs from the earth?" Viola questioned rhetorically before smiling. "Yeah, I like it... and I kinda see were you are going with this."

"Thanks... as for you, Jen, I think you would love Demotivating Aura." Cain said, now looking at Jenna who was quickly searching for the skill in question. "It lowers enemies stats a bit, making their attacks weaker, as well as making them more susceptible to attacks."

"I like it! It allows me to keep my distance and still help you guys." Jenna voiced her opinion joyfully. She was actually very glad that Cain gave her a pretty safe role.

"So... a party that works in order to boost the damage dealer as much as possible, huh?" Dwight queried without expecting an answer, one which Cain still gave, mostly for the girls –'girls' being mostly Jenna.

"Well, you wanted to go with the tank route, so you won't deal much damage, right?" Cain began explaining while everyone else paid attention, Jenna looking a bit... intoxicated, by her crush. "And Viola wanted to keep a safe distance while Jenna wanted to make it easier... so it made sense to go with this, right?"

The group fully agreed with Cain's words. Not only were they logical, but they tacitly understood that he was the most experienced amongst them in this kind of situation, so they would've gone with whatever he said anyway.

"Pick them at the count of three?" Viola said inquisitively, to check if everyone was ready to go on with the plan.

"One." Answered Jenna.

"Two." Followed Dwight.

"Three." Finished Cain.

[Congratulations on choosing your skill!]

[Backstab: Deals 2x the normal damage if used when attacking an enemy from the back.]

[Magic Rope: Root an enemy in place for the next five seconds.]

[Demotivating Aura: Lower all enemies stats by 10%]

['Character Sheet' Unlocked!]

[Tutorial will begin in 10 minutes.]

"Well... I think now is a good time to check our 'Character Sheet'." Cain said before focusing on that rather than what the others were thinking.

[Name: Cain Rivers Level:1

STR: 8 DEX: 12

END: 9 VIT: 8

INT: 5 LUCK: 8

SP: 0 GOLD: 0]

"My highest stat is dexterity, so my choice was totally right, what about you guys?" Cain asked after thoroughly checking his stats from top to bottom. He was quite content with them, considering he was going to be a physical damage dealer for the time being.

"Mine is inteligence." Jenna answered while Viola looked at them happily, which showed her answer before she even spoke.

"So is mine." She confirmed their guess. Up to that moment, all the skill they had chosen were spot on with their stats. And last but not least...

"Endurance seems to be my forte." Dwight stated in a fake cocky tone.

"We... are a perfect team, in paper at least." Cain said. "Now, let us please never have to put that to the test."

"Yeah..." Jenna said, dreading the now encroaching reality that they will most certainly have to fight something. Whatever that was. Before they could continue speaking, another prompt appeared out of nowhere.

[Detecting other Players in the area, do you want to form a Party?]

GhostLight, you have been honored as the first comment on this story of mine. I had to think for a bit, but it wasn't too hard to get Magic Rope to work properly with a team. Please guys, do keep commenting and leaving your opinions, I read every single one of them.
