While Leo revealed to the gathering of spies and diplomats who he would send to oversee PARASITE from the Abyss' side, a second surprising moment was happening on another part of Exploratown. Yes, things did not go as people thought it would go in the first-ever Luminary Challenge between Jaybird and Goliath.
To be fair, most people didn't think much of Jaybird as many assumed he'd risen in the ranks by merely being a hanger-on of Black Howler. And this was true, at least at first. But who would have thought that a chubby teenage boy would ever find the courage to stand on his own two feet in a magical world of dungeons and dragons? Well, certainly not Jaybird, even if this sort of thing was an overused premise in the coming-of-age in another world sort of light novel that peppered the shelves in Jaybird's room.
