The Duty of the Strong

"This is absurd." Rollo couldn't help but burst out as he saw how indifferent Damian was, just like the elf at his side.

Born knew things could escalate, so he said, "Brother, that's enough."

"No, damn it, we've traveled for over two years, and we won't return with such an ambiguous answer." Rollo didn't want to accept his brother's lectures.

Damian wasn't bothered by the warrior's behavior, but he still had to assert his authority and ask, "Tell me, in my position, what would you do when two strangers tell you to fight in a war just because of an elf's vision whom you don't know? Better yet, go fight a war and abandon all the people who trust you."

"I didn't mean to..." Rollo realized his mistake too late.

Frieren appeared indifferent and said, "They have shown much. You can leave now; we appreciate your good intentions in traveling for so long, which is valuable to humans. As a reward, you can live here if you wish for as long as you like."

Damian was surprised that Frieren spoke more than usual, but that was fine. "You should know that human magic is far behind demon magic. Just three hundred years ago, humans considered magic to be demonic, but that changed thanks to the great mage Flamme."

Clang!

In an instant, Damian turned into a silhouette full of small electrical arcs and disappeared. When the two red-haired brothers tried to sense Damian, he was beside them.

"That magic..."

Damian shook his head, showing his humility. "I will reshape this continent, mold it, and when we are ready, we will exterminate the demons. That was announced by the great mage of this continent in one of her visions. It would be a shame for me to leave now when I can have opportunities in the future."

"But we..."

"You will endure. Many heroes emerge in times of crisis, so I am sure you will have no problem. Besides, from what you've said, the alliance is not in its final moments." Damian disappeared again, but this time he wasn't behind the red-haired brothers or in his seat; he was far behind, where there was a huge statue with four arms.

"The duty of the strong is to care for the weak. Do you still follow that thought?" Born asked this before leaving.

Damian nodded and said, "Of course, but certain people should not be protected, as they are worse than demons. Do you agree?"

"We appreciate your time; we will be here for a while, so we hope to have accommodation."

"Of course, Sebastian, take care of it."

Sebastian nodded, walked out of the room, and after a few minutes, only Damian and Frieren were left.

"Why did you refuse?"

Damian changed his expression, took off the bandage from his eyes, and said, "It would be pointless for me to support them; instead, we should focus on creating an army of puppets so that we are ready when the time comes."

Frieren was about to return to her room when she noticed slight strands of white hair on Damian, so she asked, "What's happening to your hair?"

"Oh, magic has been causing this. It keeps increasing, and it seems like my hair will eventually turn as white as snow. Isn't that cool?" Damian touched the white strands. Maybe it's a sign of his age; who could say?

"I received a summons; that mage wants to see us." Frieren spoke about the great mage series.

Damian nodded, checked the time, and said, "We'll make the journey in a few weeks."

There were many things Damian wanted to ask that great mage Serie; of course, even if they could fight, that would be fantastic.

"How strong would that mummy be? I should bring her a book; I'll write down some that I remember from my past life." Damian immediately had good ideas.

Frieren looked at Damian entering his workshop while murmuring some things, and she thought, "He's going to create some madness again."

The discussion they had seemed to be in the past, but in a way, she also wanted to become even stronger, although in magic, that's something one doesn't have control over.
