The Mixed Breed

Desire. One thing all humans can relate to is the desire for something they don't have. Even to desire nothing is to desire something. The only obstacle stopping one from chasing that desire is themselves. To achieve the things you desire in life, it requires hard work. If you're not willing to put in the work for the things that you want, then you might as well forget about your desires. But without desire, are you even human? There are many people all around the world who simply don't feel the need to act on what they want but rather watch as others achieve that same goal. The person we follow today has found himself in this group, but that will change very soon.

A mistake, a scourge on this planet, a bastard in the eyes of many. Favored by none and hated by all. He'd be better off dead; he himself agrees. In the public restroom of a high school, the body of a boy can be seen, but oddly, his head is missing. Surprisingly, what was lost was found in a matter of seconds. His head had been stuffed fully into the opening of a toilet. He held onto the sides of the toilet for dear life as he drowned in the flushing liquids that ran down the toilet. Two figures loomed over him, giggling at the predicament that they had forced upon the boy. "That's what you bastard!"  one of the bullies said before continuing his horrid howl of joy. "Western mixed breeds like you don't deserve to be in Japan! Just go ahead and die already!!" the second bully said with an annoyed tone. The very existence of this boy was an annoyance to them. "I wish I could," the boy thought as his abuse continued.

That was until it was stopped by an abrupt yell. "Just what in the hell are you three doing in here?! " It was an easily recognizable voice, the heavy western accent seeping into the boy's ears. "Damnit," one of them said. The entrance to the stall was now blocked by the large frame of Mr. Lawrence. He was a newly fired physical education teacher from America, fired specifically to coach the school tennis team. But with their combined efforts, the two boys managed to rush past the man and out of the bathroom. Not before yelling, "AMERICAN PIG!! " directed at the teacher that had halted their torture session. " Fuckers. Geeze, this school is filled to the brim with cockroaches. "The man let out a sigh before pulling the boy's head out of the toilet. He fell to his knees, attempting to grasp a hold of his breath that had almost been taken away from him entirely. "Stand up, boy." Mr. Lawrence said as he expanded his arm in order to lend a helping hand to the boy. As he grasped a hold of the man's hand, he was rather easily pulled onto his feet. He was left rather shocked by the man's strength. "Gah Lee, why would students hurt people of their own race? It doesn't make much sense, does it??" the teacher asked before he was met with a griny expression from the boy. "It's because I'm half Japanese, half American." Mr. Lawrence's eyes widened; he was rather ashamed of himself for not knowing. It was rather obvious, seeing that the boy had blonde hair and soft blue eyes. " Sorry. But I believe it's time you go back to class now."  Lawrence sent him on his way, wanting to get rid of the awkwardness in the air. So off he went, back to a life of pure hell.

I am Kiseki Yamazaki, half Japanese and half American, as you already know. For the past sixteen years, my life has been nothing but hell on earth. What you just saw wasn't even the worst of it. My mother conceived me after having an affair with an American tourist back in the 2000s. One divorce later, and we were living in the slums of Shinjuku. My mom works at a local diner as a waiter, while I attend the infamous West Shinjuku High School. An academy known for their tennis club, this school is filled with kids with nasty attitudes and lives that are even shittier. For the past sixteen years, I've done nothing or wanted anything. But now that that has changed, there is finally something that I wish to have.

In the cafeteria of West Shinjuku High School, Kiseki sat, eating the only thing that his mother could afford. A bowl of dry rice. He sat with a glint of happiness in his eyes, observing the one thing that he truly desired in this world. Fuyu Tanshō is a second-year student just like him, but unlike Kiseki, she was popular amongst both boys and girls. Kiseki continued to 'watch' her as a sweet smile spread across her face while she conversed with her friends. "Fuyu is looking so wonderful today, but she looks beautiful every day, so it's not much of a surprise. Damnit, I wish I had the chance to be with someone like her. So caring, sweet, and, most of all, stunning. Sadly, not in this life, and not with me being me." Kiseki sat in thought the entire time he held his gaze directed at Fuyu and her friends. That was until a figure stepped in front of him, blocking Fuyu's eyesight. His jet black hair and tall frame were all that Kiseki needed to see. "Fucking bastard." Kiseki hissed in his mind as the boy turned to face him. A cocky grin spread across the boy's face as he flipped off Kiseki while Fuyu was unable to see. "Eiji Shimizu, a first-year student who had come to the school on a scholarship for his natural talent in tennis, Somehow, he ended up dating the prettiest girl in West Shinjuku. And he's the person who dunked my head in a toilet." Kiseki bore a deep hatred for Eiji and wanted nothing more than to destroy him. But he knew that would hurt Fuyu. His thoughts came to a close as a loud noise emerged from behind him. From the entrance to the cafeteria came two students holding a flag that read, TRYOUTS FOR THE TENNIS TODAY! "If you're up for the challenge, then try out for the infamous West Shinjuku High Tennis Team!" they shouted as they walked throughout the large cafeteria filled to the brim with students. Many students saw this as an interest that grew inside of them, but most of all, it was Kiseki. He had realized what he had to do to gain the attention of the woman he desired.
