Shirley woke up after some hours of good sleep. She smiled at the thought of Josh, ' he's such a gentleman' she was looking dreamy at that time, imagine how Josh carried her in, removed her shoes and tuck her into her bed.
She spent the rest of the day cleaning her apartment. Josh had told her earlier that he would show up in the evening, then it doesn't hurt to make a good dinner for gratitude. He has saved her a lot of trouble after all.
Hours passe really quick, it was already eight in the evening. Shirley was getting restless, Josh hasn't showed up yet and it's already eight. She felt sorry for him, is he overworking? She took her cellphone contemplating whether to call him or not. She finally decided to call him but before she could dial his number, the door bell rang.
She excitedly ran to the door and opened up only to be disappointed, it wasn't Josh.
" What are you doing here, Andrew!" Shirley asked with a cold face.
" Can I come in? We need to talk please!" The guy pleaded.
" There is nothing to talk about, okay? It's you who broke up with me after dating for four good years asshole!" Shirley retorted.
" I came looking for you yesterday evening but you weren't in. I came to the place where you work and I wasn't allowed in, please don't do this to me!" Andrew said looking sorry.
" I don't want you to look for me, I remember very well what you said to me last week, our last date I guess. Isn't it you who said that you no longer feel me that way? You've wasted my four years scumbag. I invested in you!" Shirley said angrily.
" I came to rectify that, please give me another chance, Shirley! I've realized that I can't be me without you. I still love you! I wasn't in my right mind while I broke up with you!" Andrew tried explaining.
" You know what, leave my place and never show up infront of me ever again! I hate you!" Shirley retorted.
" Shirley, please...!"
" Is everything okay over here!" A deep voice came from behind Andrew, cutting off his words.
Andrew turned to look at the tall handsome man before him.
He was slightly taller than him, his emerald eyes seemed like they were twinkling. The white shirt he wore hugged his body as if it belonged there. He seemed strong, the working out type. He emitted power. His seriously handsome face sent shivers to Andrew. This man seemed to be powerful.
Josh was holding a bunch of white and yellow roses in one of his hand.
" It's none of your business, stay out of this. I'm talking to my fiancee!" Andrew said sizing him. Even though he was acting brave right now, deep down he was intimidated by Josh's sharp gaze.
" Be a gentle man and leave peacefully, I can see the lady isn't pleased by your presence." Josh said as he gave Shirley a brief smile.
Shirley felt her insides turn, that smile really sent shivers in her body.
" Beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman!" Josh said as he handed the flowers to Shirley who was now grinning like a stupid highschool girl.
" Shirley, you're unbelievable! It has just been a week and you've already find yourself another guy! I know you still love me, please don't do this! Don't do something you're going to regret honey!" Andrew pleaded.
" You either leave willingly or I'm calling the guards to kick you out!" Shirley warned.
" I'll come again looking for you Shirley, we really need to talk!" Andrew said. Shirley looked at him in a disgusted way. She was getting irritated.
Josh laughed with sarcasm.
" Are you planning to come looking for my girlfriend, Again! Buddy, let me not see you any where near her or I'm going to break your limbs!" Josh warned him.
Andrew looked at Josh to Shirley who rolled her eyes at him.
" You heard him, leave, I don't want to see you ever again!" Shirley added. She held Josh's hand and pulled him in with her. She locked the door on Andrew's face. Andrew sighed dejectedly as he turned to leave. He had mess up big time!
Shirley leaned on the door and closed her eyes sighing heavily.
Josh stood a little distance away from her with his hands folded on his chest.
" I don't intend to be nosy but I don't like that guy. He seemed lifeless to me! He doesn't look like the type with a promising future! Sorry if I'm saying too much. I hope you're okay, he didn't hurt you did he?" Josh asked concerned checking out her body.
" No I'm fine, and thank you for showing up on time. The last thing I wanted is to deal with him. " Shirley admitted.
" You're welcome, you deserve peace of mind!" Josh said.
" The flowers are beautiful, thank you!" Shirley said moving across the room to find a vase and placed the roses.
" You're looking good by the way, were you going out or expecting someone?" Josh inquired as he noticed the change in the apartment and the sweet aroma coming from the dining area.
Shirley had wore a purple silk dress, slightly above the knee length and lacy long sleeves. The dressed hugged her body really well, showing off her fine features and a well defined figure. She had let her hair down on one side with a braid and applied light make up to enhance her already natural beauty. She wore a beautiful silver chain and wore her favourite perfume.
Shirley blushed at the compliment.
" Well, I thought we could have dinner together, it doesn't hurt to look extremely gorgeous once in a while isn't it?" Shirley said turning around to show off her beauty.
Josh chuckled at the gesture.
" I'm flattered by the effort. Thank you!" Josh said. He put out his arm for her to hold.' indeed a gentleman!' Shirley thought.
" You look good yourself!" She commented.
" I just went to my apartment for a quick shower before coming over that is why I'm a bit late sorry for keeping you waiting.
" You smell good too!" Shirley read out he thoughts loudly.
" Really! I'm glad you notice such trivial details!" Josh said and Shirley looked down shyly.
" You don't have to be shy, it's normal!" Josh said.
They made their way to the dining area. Josh pulled out a chair for her before taking his own seat.
" Thank you!" Shirley said to his gesture.
" You're welcome!" Josh said.
Shirley served them both and they started eating.
" So, how was work today?" Shirley inquired.
" Good, I e set quite a lot of things straight now, you won't be struggling much from now on!" Josh said.
" So, you were to give me updates!" Shirley reminded him.
" Yes, I said that but why spoil our beautiful dinner with work stuff? I'm not going anywhere, we would talk about that during working hours, let us enjoy the moment for now!" Josh said and Shirley nodded yes. They ate in silence, no one didn't want to start a conversation until Josh started.
" So, the guy from earlier, is he your fiancee? I beg your pardon about what I said earlier about him!" Josh said.
" No, it's okay. There is no reason to be sorry about anything. Whatever you said was true. He is now my ex. We've dated for four years and he broke up with me last week!" Shirley said.
" Oh, sorry about that! You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to!" Josh added.
" No, it's okay, there is nothing to be ashamed of. He broke up with me and partly it could be my fault. I've been too busy for him for the last two weeks and he thought we're not fit to carry on. I don't blame him for that, I'm just disappointed that he wasn't patient with me, he wanted me to leave my job and move in with him, I didn't agree and that is where things started going wrong!" Shirley detailed.
" Does he work too?" Josh asked.
" Yes, he's a manager in their family business. Pretty lazy though, I've done much of his paper work for him. He was taking advantage of my secretarial proffesionelism. I didn't mind at all. It's just recently I realized he's been using me, he's a selfish guy. I knew that from the beginning but I still gave us a chance hoping things would change. Quarrels everyday, me working my ass off and get scolded for cancelling a date!" Shirley said.
" It happens sometimes, life has to move on either way. It doesn't always work out the way we envisioned it. I'm not a so romantic guy either! Been left out by five girls I dated because of work. I don't blame them. I've been focusing too much in my carrier that I forgot to live!" Josh admitted.
