Chapter 6

Seriously?

I was a washed up movie and TV actor without any conceivable way of regaining my status in the industry. My career in Hollywood was over.

Alec hung around for a while but my bitterness and depression came between us. We argued constantly. Our life became a gay version of Liz and Dick’s Virginia Woolf, matching each other drink for drink and insult for insult.

We quarreled over everything, but mostly about my sagging, almost non-existent career.

“You’re not proactive enough,” he said, waving the martini in his hand for emphasis. “You laze around here all day when you should be out doing something—anything to boost your career.”

“Right, I know. But the handwriting’s—”

“Move Jake off his cute little ass, why don’t you.”

“What do you mean by that?”

Time for another drink

I headed for the bar and poured myself a double.

“What are you paying him for? He’s not doing his job.”

I had to defend him. “He can’t makethe studios hire me.”
