Chapter 14 - Alpha

Stone struggles to say a word as Alpha Jones firmly held his grip on him making it impossible for him to breathe. With his hand raised towards the heart of Stone, Alpha Jone's hand transformed into the hairy hand of a beast with claws. “I told you, I don’t tolerate failures.”

Werewolves can fully transform during a full moon except for the alphas. The alphas can transform anytime or even transform a part of their body just like Alpha Jones did. They have enhanced ability that gives them more advantage than an average werewolf.

“Please… Spare… me,” Stones spoke up with a cracked voice. He still cannot breathe as usual. He’s already turning red and no one could help. The rest of the pack just went mute and no one dares to plead with the alpha on Stone’s behalf lest they face the same fate.

“I will spare you this time because you are one of my best hunters.” Alpha Jones released Stone from his grip and pushed him to the rocky ground.

Many see Alpha Jones as the first werewolf to have worked the earth since he has lived for a thousand years. Almost all the werewolves ever lived came from the sired line of Alpha Jones. When he locks on his target, he never gets his eyes off the target until the target is down.

Stone picks himself up and approached Alpha Jones. He slightly lowered his head and spoke in a quivering voice. “I will like your permission to invade the witches’ quarters.”

“Permission denied, find another means to retrieve him!”

Alpha Jones 100 years ago triggered a war between witches of that age and he always wins. But since he triggered another war with New Orleans witches, he has counted a dozen werewolves brutally killed with dark art. He doesn’t want to blindly engage with New Orleans witches because he knew that most of the white clan witches have embraced the dark side in other to erase the werewolves.

After he realized more werewolves are being killed, he decided to sire some humans and have them join his pack. Just a night ago, he attacked Lucas intending to have him join his pack but seems like the witches are ahead of him. He believes Lucas to be special and wants to do anything possible to have him on his side.

LUCAS APARTMENT

Detective White was still investigating the dead nurse in his son’s ward. After much persuasion from Lucas, he had to drop him home but with a serious warning to stay out of trouble and not to let anyone into their apartment.

As Lucas was laying on the couch watching his favorite TV series the doorbell rang. “Ding Dong! Ding Dong!” He quickly jumped to his feet. He didn’t want to disobey his father’s wish not to let anyone in. But the bell kept on ringing which made it impossible for him to ignore.

He moved towards the door and peeped through the door hole but to his astonishment, there was no one there. As he turned to walk back, the doorbell was rung again. “Ding Dong!” followed by a fisted knock.

“What the hell!” he exclaimed expressing anger. Maybe the bell has become faulty but that’s not possible since it was followed by a fisted knock. He didn’t waste time peeping through the door hole and there was no sign of anyone.

As he turned to leave the doorpost, another fisted knock was heard. Angrily he opens the door only to see Ann. He narrowed his eyes at her and then bends down. He brought his face close to her. “What the hell are you doing here?” he asked. It’s now clear why he hasn’t seen the person ringing the bell. There’s no way he could see her through the door hole because of her short stature.

“What took you so long in opening the door?”

“I open the door when I chose to and besides how do you expect me to see you from the door hole.”

“That’s so mean and rude of you.”

“No offense but that’s a reality.”

“I hate werewolves,” Ann mutters below her breath.

“I can hear you from here you know that?”

“Oh, you do?” Ann pushed Lucas on the head as she walked crossed him into the apartment.

“Oh shit!” Lucas pulls himself up to his feet as he walked into his apartment. “You can’t be here.”

“Why not?”

“My dad will not be happy seeing you and if the neighbors tell him a strange dwarf-looking lady was in his apartment…”

“Don’t worry about that. No eye can see me but you.” Ann and her kind have the ability to restrain certain people from seeing them whereas others can. In other words, they can become invisible to the naked eyes of people and visible to people they chose.

“What do you mean by that?” Lucas isn’t familiar with magic. He doesn’t know what exactly Ann meant by that. To him, that’s not possible. If he can see him, others can.

With a snap of her finger, Ann shuts the door as she moved to the couch. She climbs on it making herself comfortable as Lucas watched. “Why are you staring at me, get your ass right here. We have a lot to talk about.”

“We are done talking, you need to leave now before my dad comes home.”

“You are making a big mistake because you don’t know what Jones is capable of doing.”

“Who the hell is Jones?”

“Jones is the werewolf that attacked you, the same werewolf that killed your mother. You should be glad to know that a wild bear didn’t kill your mother but a werewolf alpha.”

On hearing this Lucas approaches Ann and sat beside her. “Tell me you speak the truth and not lie about my mother’s death,” said Lucas.
